Pembelajaran yang masih bersifat pemindahan isi melatarbelakangi rendahnya kemampuan berbicara dan kepercayaan diri peserta didik dalam pembelajaran bahasa indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kendala dan kesulitan peserta didik dan guru dalam pembelajaran, mengetahui rancangan pembelajaran dan rancangan perbaikan pembelajaran, serta mengetahui hasil belajar peserta didik setelah melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis model nondirective untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan kepercayaan diri peserta didik. Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan subjek penelitian kelas IV SDN Rancabolang Kota Bandung. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes unjuk kerja dan tes otentik berupa lembar kerja siswa. Data hasil penelitian disajikan dari hasil prasiklus, siklus I dan siklus II secara deskriptif. Dari deskripsi tersebut dapat dilihat peningkatan kemampuan dan hasil belajar peserta didik dari mulai prasiklus, siklus I dan siklus II. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditarik kesimpulan bahwa kemampuan berbicara dan kepercayaan diri peserta didik meningkat setelah melakukan pembelajaran berbasis model nondirective.

Abstract: This research based on finding that show a part of fifth grade students at SDN. 12 Sungai Lareh have low skills in playing drama and tend to have low self-confidence when they performing in front of the class. It caused by monotone form of learning that focused on the text books and they have lack of opportunity to appear in the public. As the result, students are less creative when they learning drama appreciation. This study aimed to describe the process and influence of drama play technique through Randai-based confidence traditional theatre to students appreciating drama ability. This research used pre-post quasi-experimental methods. Experiment class using drama play technique through Randai-based confidence, and the control class using direct instructions. Data analyzed with SPSS software version 21 and Ms. Excell 2007. The results found a significant influence on the use of drama play technique through Randai-based confidence to student appreciations drama ability. It can see from t test results showed that student ability in Randai class increase significantly compared to the control class. Based on this finding, the drama play technique through Randai-based confidence recommended to use as an alternative learning technique in elementary school. Keywords: drama technique, Randai, Confidence, drama appreciation abilityAbstrak: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi temuan yang menunjukkan sebagian siswa kelas V di SDN. 12 Sungai Lareh kurang terampil dalam bermain drama dan cenderung memiliki rasa percaya diri yang rendah saat tampil di depan kelas. Hal ini disebabkan pembelajaran apresiasi drama selama ini masih dalam bentuk percakapan monoton yang terfokus pada buku teks , dan kurangnya kesempatan siswa tampil di depan umum. Akibatnya siswa kurang kreatif dalam mengapresiasi drama. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan proses dan pengaruh penggunaan teknik bermain drama melalui teater tradisional Randai berbasis kepercayaan diri terhadap kemampuan apresiasi drama. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain prates-pascates. Kelas eksperimen menggunakan teknik bermain drama melalui teater tradisional Randai berbasis kepercayaan diri, sedangkan kelas kontrol melaksanakan pembelajaran dengan direct instruction. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan software SPSS. 21dan Microsoft Excell 2007. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penggunaan teknik bermain drama melalui teater tradisional Randai berbasis kepercayaan diri terhadap kemampuan apresiasi drama. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil uji t yang menunjukkan kemampuan apresiasi drama siswa di kelas eksperimen mengalami peningkatan signifikan dibanding kelas kontrol. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, teknik bermain drama melalui teater tradisional Randai sangat direkomendasikan untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran apresiasi drama di SD.Kata Kunci: teknik bermain drama, Randai, kepercayaan diri, kemampuan apresiasi drama.

Abstract: This study was aimed to explain main idea skills’ and parahrase sklills’ who were taught reading by using scramble technique and those who taught the direct instruction. The Implementation reasons of study is for reading comprehension fourth grade students in determining the main idea and paraphrase is still low. The subject of this study were student of grade 4 SDN 2 Pengadilan the regency of Tasikmalaya totaling 50 students, consist of 25 students from the experimental class, and 25 students from the control class. The research method was used is quasi experiment with two treatment design. The instrumen werw used are main idea skills’ test and paraphrase skills’ test. The contibution of each instruction were analised by using software SPSS 16 and Microsoft Excel 2007. The result of this study were: (1) there was different in main idea skills’ who were taught reading by using scramble technique and those who taught the direct instruction, and (2) there was different in parafrase skills’ who were taught reading by using scramble technique and those who taught the direct instruction.Keywords: scramble technique, main idea skills’, paraphrase skills’.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan perbedaan kemampuan menentukan ide pokok dan kemampuan memparafrase antara kelas yang belajar menggunakan teknik scramble dengan kelas yang mengalami pembelajaran terlangsung. Alasan dilaksanakannya penelitian karena kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas IV SD dalam menentukan ide pokok dan memparafrase masih rendah. Subjek pada penelitian ini siswa SDN 2 Pengadilan Kota Tasikmalaya berjumlah 50 orang yang terdiri dari 25 orang kelas eksperimen dan 25 orang kelas kontrol. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain prates-pascates. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes kemampuan menentukan ide pokok dan tes kemampuan memparafrase Kontribuasi dari masing-masing pembelajaran ini dianalisis melalui pengujian statistik menggunakan Software SPSS 16 dan Microsoft Excel 2007. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah (1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menentukan ide pokok antara siswa yang belajar menggunakan teknik scramble dengan siswa yang mengalami pembelajaran terlangsung, dan (2) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan memparafrase antara siswa yang belajar menggunakan teknik scramble dengan siswa yang mengalami pembelajaran terlangsung. Kata Kunci: teknik scramble, kemampuan menentukan ide pokok, kemampuan memparafrase.

This study reports culture shock issues such as pragmatic failures, social anxiety or loss of motivation encountered by international students, and specifically focuses on Chinese Indonesian-language students during study abroad in Indonesia. The data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observations and were analyzed using qualitative approach. A total of eight Chinese students responded to the research that specifically stressed culture shock symptoms and the influence in respect to intercultural communicative competence. The findings put forward that students of this study had all experienced culture shock in view of intercultural communication, which could lead to inconvenience living in Indonesia. The results indicate that before entering a new cultural environment, it is very important to prepare as much beforehand as possible, especially for foreign language learners in host countries. The researcher proposed several recommendations that certain encouragement and support from teachers, media and method development from educational institutions, and a confident attitude from oneself should be provided and built as a solution for students who need to deal with culture shock problems.

Creating narratives and revision circle are the collaboration of two learning strategies of literacy dimensions. In literacy learning, students can develop a narration as a skill in literacy, particularly basic literacy in form of reading and writing. The present research aims at describing 2 strategies of literacy dimension learning through the analysis of didactic values from funny short stories written by M. Kasim. The funny short stories provided a variety of specific didactic values. As one of the literature learning materials, the didactic values were in line with the national education goals. The present research employed qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Specifically, the data were analyzed by the application of literary work didactic study framework. The funny short stories to analyze entitled: 1) “Pendikar bukan Pendekar; 2) “Podato yang Gagalâ€; 3) “Ada Seorang Raja…â€, and  4) “Kue yang Nakalâ€. The result denoted the funny short stories contained various didactic values which could be regarded as learning materials in literacy development. The didactic values consisted of well-mannered behavior, dignified personality, independence, creativity, being democratic, responsibility, self-control, intelligence, and skill. Those values are considered excellent to implement by the collaboration of creating narratives and revision circle.

Student’s reading skill is deemed vitally important to attain high academic achievements. The results of the previous studies, however, show that Indonesian students' reading skill is still unsatisfying due to their low motivation. The purpose of this study is to address this problem of students’ motivation by examining the effectiveness of a volitional strategy through metacognitive development to students of Islamic Junior High School [Madrasah Tsanawiyah] in Indonesia. A quasi-experimental method with a factorial design is used in this research. Indicators for increasing students’ reading motivation come from Cambria and Guthrie (2010). Measures of increased motivation to read with the volitional strategy were done through metacognitive development which is based on self-monitoring and awareness of reading skills mastery. This study concludes that the volitional strategy through metacognitive development is proved effective in increasing students’ motivation for reading, students with both low and high reading skills. This has implications for the efforts to foster motivation for reading by intensively using the strategy for Madrasah Tsanawiyah education contexts.

Penelitian pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghadirkan produk bahan ajar. Fokusnya: (1) bahan ajar kompetensi membaca pemahaman, (2) bahan ajar yang berpendekatan konstruktivisme, (3) bahan ajar bertopik Islam, (4) bahan ajar bermedia gambar balon udara. Pengembangan bahan ajar mengikuti prosedur: 1) analisis keperluan; 2) penyusunan desain bahan ajar; 3) penyusunan produk awal; 4) uji coba produk awal pada skala terbatas; 5) revisi produk awal; 6) uji coba produk revisi pada skala luas; 7) produk akhir. Instrumen penelitian berbentuk kuesioner ditujukan kepada tim ekspet, para pengguna, dan audiens. Instrumen tes kloz digunakan untuk mengukur keterbacaan teks bacaan dan deskripsi utama bahan ajar. Uji coba produk dilakukan di kelas VII SMP/MTs Pekanbaru. Komponen detil membaca pemahaman adalah kalimat dan gagasan dan aspek universal bacaan adalah simpulan dan pesan. Konstruktivisme menggunakan 5 fase dari Needham. Indikator kelayakan isi bahan ajar memuat 12 subindikator, kelayakan penyajian memuat 7 subindikator, kelayakan bahasa memuat 3 subindikator, dan kelayakan kegrafikaan memuat 6 subindikator. Pengembangan ini menghasilkan produk yang berjudul Meneguhkan Jalan Menuju Surga: Bahan Ajar Membaca Pemahaman Berpedekatan Konstruktivisme untuk Kelas VII SMP/MTs.

This paper presents experimental results about the use of the Critical Literacy Approach (CLA) in literary appreciation using Indonesian short stories. The purpose of the study is to find better teaching strategies to improve students’ critical thinking skills and critical awareness to comprehend the conditions of the world, including social relationships involving disproportionate power relations. This study uses the randomized pretest-posttest control group design (RPPCGD), which is a randomized design by giving pretest and posttest to the experimental group (CLA) and control group (expository). The effect of both teaching strategies is calculated through the difference between the pretest and posttest of both groups. This research involved 170 students in the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education of an education university in Indonesia. The results are presented in the form of analytical descriptions of paired samples test and paired samples correlations of each group. The results show that students who did a short story analysis with CLA had significantly increased critical thinking skills and critical awareness compared to students of expository strategy. The average posttest of the experimental group is 80.33, which is considerably higher than the control group, with an average of 76.13. The average increase in skills (posttest-pretest) of the experimental group is 38.71 points, and the control groups have an average increase of 31.19 points. Therefore, it is clear that the teaching of literary appreciation using Indonesian short stories with CLA is effective. The use of CLA strategies in increasing students’ critical thinking skills and critical awareness through literary appreciation of Indonesian short stories shows positive results. The results of this study can contribute to the field of learning design with new ideas to improve critical thinking skills and critical awareness of Indonesian students through effective short story analysis or fictional prose analysis.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to describe the development and validation of test instrument that measure students’ visual perception and linguistic awareness. This is a part of a bigger study of quasi-experiment research which investigates the use of story reading through big book towards primary school students’ visual perception and linguistic awareness. The content validity is done by the expert judgment. Besides, items validity obtained from the trial tested to the first grader of primary schools. There are two sets of questions that consist of the same indicators but different question. 33 students fill set 1 and 30 students fill set 2. The result of expert validation is 87%, meanwhile, the item validity shows valid and invalid items. The researcher combined set 1 and set 2 to get the representation item from all indicators. The test reliability is in the good level. Based on these findings, the implication is that the instrument could be used due to its validity and reliability in measuring students' visual perception and linguistic awareness.

Learning theories have seen the development of students’ higher order thinking skills a quintessential educational goal for all students, as the absence of such skills in learning leads to students’ difficulty in answering questions that are analytical, critical, creative, and problem-solving. What is more, the prevailing literacy scoring instruments have yet to take into account the Indonesian cultural context despite the fact that culture is such an important vehicle in strengthening the identity of a nation. In order to address this problem, employing a research-and-development method, a HOTS-based reading literacy scoring device model was proposed in this research. In the development stage, the model was tested to 476 junior high school students in two separate islands in Indonesia: Java and Bali. The results of the qualitative assessment from the experts showed that the product developed in principle had fulfilled the requirements. Meanwhile, the validity and reliability test results demonstrated that the instrument under investigation had met the requirements as a standardized reading literacy assessment product. Implicationally, therefore, the proposed model can be utilized in assessing students’ reading skill in Indonesian contexts.
