The organisation chart provides an overview of the organisation of the ‘Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology - University Library’ foundation.

Summary
The TIB is organised into four programme areas, three departments and a staff unit. Programme areas A (Collection Development and Metadata) and B (User and Information Services) form the library operations and comprise the library services and information infrastructure tasks. Development and research tasks are carried out in programme areas C (Research and Development) and D (Open Research Knowledge Graph). The cross-sectional tasks are assigned to the Administration, Information Technology and Business Management departments. Five competence areas work together in the TIB across programme areas. Two joint labs with universities strengthen regional co-operation through joint research, development and support for scientific training.
The TIB Foundation Council decides on matters of fundamental importance and monitors the activities of the Directorate. The Scientific Advisory Board advises the Foundation Council and the Directorate, while the User Advisory Board advises on all matters relating to the provision of literature and information at Leibniz Universität Hannover. A Staff Council represents the interests of employees. The Equal Opportunities Officer provides advice and support in all matters relating to equal opportunities, the Data Protection Officer advises, trains and monitors data protection and two ombudspersons are available to answer questions on safeguarding good scientific practice.
The Director of the TIB is Prof. Dr. Sören Auer. Sören Auer is also Professor of Data Science & Digital Libraries at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Leibniz Universität Hannover. At the TIB, he also leads the programme area D - Open Research Knowledge Graph and the Data Science & Digital Libraries research group.
Deputy Director and Head of Library Operations is Dr. Irina Sens. She is also Head of Programme Area A - Collection Development and Metadata.
Deputy Director and Commercial Director is Elmar Ehbrecht. He is also the budget officer (BfdH) and leads the financial management department.
The Legal Affairs and Communications departments and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) report directly to the Directorate.
The Directorate of the TIB is supervised by the Foundation Council and additionally advised by a Scientific Advisory Board and a User Advisory Board.
Programme area A - Collection Development and Metadata is headed by Dr. Irina Sens.
Programme Area A comprises the areas ‘Scientific Services’ (headed by Dr. Hedda Saemann), ‘Media and Licensing Management’ (headed by Dr. Andreas Lütjen) and ‘Preservation and Long-Term Archiving’ (headed by Thomas Bähr). In addition, the ‘Archive of the TIB / University Archive’ (headed by Lars Nebelung) and the ‘PID and Metadata Services Department’ belong to Programme Area A.
Programme Area B - User and Information Services is headed by Dr. Bernhard Tempel.
Programme area B is divided into the areas ‘Local Services’ (headed by Dr. Bernhard Tempel), ‘Full Text Provision’ (headed by Jens Olf) and ‘Publication Services’ (headed by Marco Tullney). Programme area B also includes the ‘Information Literacy’ unit.
Programme Area C - Research and Development is headed by Prof. Dr. Maria-Esther Vidal.
Programme Area C consists of the Research Groups ‘Scientific Data Management’ (headed by Prof. Dr. Maria-Esther Vidal) and ‘Visual Analytics’ (headed by Prof. Dr. Ralph Ewerth and Dr. Eric Müller-Budack), the Labs ‘Learning & Skill Analytics’ (headed by Dr. Gábor Kismihók), ‘Linked Scientific Knowledge’ (headed by Dr. Oliver Koepler), ‘Non-textual Materials’ (headed by Margret Plank) and the ‘Open Science Lab’ (headed by Lambert Heller). Programme Area C also includes the Development division (headed by Axel Klinger) and the Research Funding, Research and Development and Transfer units.
Programme Area D - Open Research Knowledge Graph is headed by Prof. Dr. Sören Auer.
Programme Area D is divided into the Research Groups ‘Data Science & Digital Libraries’ (headed by Prof. Dr. Sören Auer) and ‘Artificial Intelligence for Scholarly Communication’ (headed by Prof. Dr. Sahar Vahdati), the Lab ‘Knowledge Infrastructures’ (headed by Dr. Markus Stocker) and the areas ‘Curation & Community Building’ (headed by Dr. Lars Vogt) and ‘Service and Software Development’ (headed by Dr. Allard Oelen and Manuel Prinz).
The TIB has the Departments ‘Administration’ (headed by Uwe Sidortschuk), ‘Information Technology’ (headed by Tim Rademacher) and ‘Business Management’ (headed by Elmar Ehbrecht). The ‘Finance’ department (headed by Lars Oestern) and the ‘Controlling’ and ‘Organisational Development’ units belong to the ‘Business Management’ department.
In the Joint Lab Future Libraries & Research Data, the TIB works closely with Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in various projects. A professorship has been jointly established to head the Joint Lab (Prof. Dr. Ina Blümel).
In the Leibniz Joint Lab Data Science & Open Knowledge, TIB researches and works together with the L3S research centre at Leibniz Universität Hannover.
In the Competence Areas ‘Digital Service Development’ (coordinated by Axel Klinger), ‘Research Data Management’ (coordinated by Dr. Oliver Koepler), ‘Non-textual Materials’ (coordinated by Margret Plank), ‘Open Science’ (coordinated by Marco Tullney) and ‘Scholarly Knowledge Graphs’ (coordinated by Dr. Markus Stocker), there is a close exchange on the respective topics across all programme areas.
