Efforts to integrated food security and farmer empowerment have become an important issue today. Accordingly, the objectives of this study were to analyze the level of participation of farmers in their group and the empowerment of farmers in the management of rice farming and the factors associated with it, and to analyze the impact of farmer empowerment on sustainability efforts. Fieldwork was conducted in May to June 2012 in two districts in West Java, by taking 239 farmers who had attended the farmer field school. Quantitative data were analyzed statistically based on the descriptive technique and Structural Equations Modeling (SEM). Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interview and observation to support the quantitative data. The results showed that: (1) The levels of farmer participation in the farmer group and the farmer empowerment were classified as low. The variables that significantly affected the levels of farmer participation in the farmer group were: intensity of empowerment and personality traits. The variables that significantly affected the levels of farmer empowerment were: farmer participation in the farmer group, intensity of empowerment, physical and socio-economic environment, personality traits, and availability of agricultural information. (2) The prospects for sustainability efforts were classified as low. The level of farmer empowerment significantly affected the sustainability of farming; and (3) The increasing level of farmer empowerment can be achieved by better management of empowerment process, with increasing farmer participation in the farmer group, strengthening the availability of agricultural information, and the physical and socio economic environment.Â Keywords: empowerment, participation, capacity of farmers, business sustainabilityReceived: 15th October 2014; Accepted: 15th November 2014[How to Cite: Sadono, D., Sumardjo, S., Gani, D., & Amanah, S. An organic farm continue to be disseminated to farmers, but until now still quite a lot of farmers who do not adopt organic farming. The farmer's decision to adopt or reject the adoption of organic farming of vegetables can be seen from the stage of the decision making process of innovation. This research was done in the village of Ciputri, subdistrict Pacet, Cianjur District. The purpose of this research is to analyze the decision-making innovations on organic vegetable farming adopter and the factors related to the decision making innovation in adopter organic farming of vegetables. This research uses census on the population of farmers who adopting organic farming of vegetables and continue to adopting. The results showed that the level of knowledge adopter of organic farming of vegetables included in the category of being the real factors related to the level of knowledge that is land area and the level of courage to take risks. At the level of persuasion including the high category with tangible factors related to the level of persuasion that is the level of conformance. At the implementation level adopter of organic farming of vegetables including the medium category with tangible factors related to the implementation level is the level conformity procedures.Keywords: adoption, knowledge level, persuasion level, implementation level-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ABSTRAKPertanian organik terus disosialisasikan kepada para petani namun sampai saat ini masih cukup banyak petani yang tidak mengadopsi pertanian organik. Keputusan petani untuk mengadopsi atau menolak adopsi pertanian organik sayuran dapat dilihat dari tahap proses pengambilan keputusan inovasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Desa Ciputri, Kecamatan Pacet, Kabupaten Cianjur. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pengambilan keputusan inovasi pada adopter pertanian sayuran organik dan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan pengambilan keputusan inovasi pada adopter pertanian organik sayuran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sensus pada populasi petani yang mengadopsi pertanian organik sayuran dan tetap melanjutkan untuk mengadopsi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan adopter pertanian organik sayuran termasuk pada kategori sedang dengan faktor yang berhubungan nyata dengan tingkat pengetahuan yaitu: luas lahan dan tingkat keberanian mengambil resiko. Pada tingkat persuasi termasuk kategori tinggi dengan faktor yang berhubungan nyata dengan tingkat persuasi yaitu tingkat kesesuaian. Pada tingkat implementasi adopter pertanian organik sayuran termasuk kategori sedang dengan faktor yang berhubungan nyata dengan tingkat implementasi yaitu tingkat kesesuaian prosedur.Kata kunci: adopsi, tingkat pengetahuan, tingkat persuasi, tingkat implementasi

ABSTRACTThe low level of community participation in the allocation of village funds indicates that the implementation of the village fund allocation still has not fully involved the community in the village financial management process. This is due to the weak leadership influence of the village head as the supreme leader who has full authority and responsibility in managing the region and its community. The low level of community participation has an impact on the lack of community satisfaction and trust in the village administration. This study uses a quantitative data approach supported by qualitative data in the form of in-depth interviews. Respondents consisted of 60 people divided into two categories namelynof community leaders and non-community leaders through stratified random sampling method. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence between the leadership of the village head on the level of community participation in the utilization of village funds.Keywords: leadership, participation, village funds----------------ABSTRAKRendahnya tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan dana desa menunjukkan bahwa implementasi dana desa masih belum sepenuhnya melibatkan masyarakat di dalam proses pengelolaan keuangan desa. Hal ini disebabkan oleh lemahnya pengaruh kepemiminan kepala desa sebagai pemimpin tertinggi yang memiliki wewenang dan tanggung jawab penuh dalam mengatur wilayah dan komunitasnya. Rendahnya partisipasi masyarakat berdampak pada kurangnya kepuasan dan kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap pemerintahan desa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan data kuantitatif yang didukung data kualitatif berupa wawancara mendalam. Responden terdiri atas 60 orang yang berdasarkan tingkat ketokohan yaitu tokoh masyarakat dan non tokoh masyarakat melalui metode stratified random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara kepemimpinan kepala desa terhadap tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan dana desa.Kata kunci: dana desa, kepemimpinan, partisipasi

The increasing of paddy productivity less significantly happened. This caused by the farmers limited abilities. The purpose of this research is to analyze the paddy productivity level happened. This research is using census approach and supported by qualitative data that is in-depth interview. The respondents consist of 60 people, splitted into two categories, the active farmers and the non-active farmers in the agricultural extension by using census method within the two groups of farmers. The results of this research shows that there is a real and positive influence of agricultural extension towards paddy productivity level.Keywords: agricultural extension, empowerment, paddy productivity level.---------------------------------ABSTRAKPeningkatan produktivitas padi kurang terjadi secara signifikan. This research aimed to explore the cultural wisdom which encouraged the spirit to empower the community and to reveal code-mixing utilization in the conversation. This research was conducted in progressive farming communities in West Java and Banten provinces. They communicated through an ODF (Online Discussion Forum) bridged by WhatsApp Group (WAG) social networking app. Content Analysis method could reveal the wisdom of the Sundanese culture that underlined the spirit of the progressive farmers. The observation period was from August 25 - November 26, 2016. During the observation period, there were 10.313 statements emerged in the discussion. Nvivo 8 software was used to analyze discussion themes. 20 statements were displayed in the results section as they could reflect the research questions. In code-mixing Indonesian and Sundanese, the progressive farmers also expressed their efforts to nurture young farmers by conducting training. The result shows that code-mixing of Indonesian and local language as mother tongue in the discussions accelerates mutual understanding because of cultural similarity between actors. It also implies that communication technology could be utilized for maintaining indigenous cultural wisdom.

Empowerment is an internal power owned by the community in tackling the problems of social environment. Humans as social beings naturally interact and depend on one another in a dynamic social environment. Social energy development is largely determined by the characteristics of individuals to interact with each other. This study uses (Mixed methods) or a combination of methods of Creswell (2009) with the apprach of explanatory squential strategic.This research was conducted in two districts of Jayapura and Jayapura city in Papua with the intention to analyze the characteristics of individual communities and analyze the relationship of the individual characteristics of communities with community empowerment. The results showed (1) the individual characteristics of society in Papua include: education level, income level, the levelÃ‚Â of cosmopolitan and ownership of the means of communication is still relatively low, the level of motivation in the medium category, in the category of adult age, the majority work as a farmer / fisherman; (2) there is a relationship directly and indirectly characteristics of individual communities with community empowerment.

There were three pilars of palm oil plantation in Indonesia, state-owned large estates and private estates which total extensive oil palm plantations area in 2005 were 5.445 thausands hectares with 12.452 thausands million tons production crude palm oil. The composition of the plantation farmers area was 40,02 %, national large plantations was about 13,96 %, and 48,68 % for private estates.There are two types of Management of their field, nucleous estate smallholders (NES) and farmers. Unfortunately farmers better than independent farmers in managing the estates, because there was cooparation between the farmers with the nucleous companies. The PIR system stated that the nucleous plantation companies were useful in developing and crops farmers market assigning, While the farmers must manage his estates well and market the results through the company's nucleous. Sustainability analysis conducted by the method of Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS) approach with Rap-Insus palm oil techniques (Rapid Appraisal-Index Sustainability of palm oil Management). Analysis of key factors of sustainability management performed a prospective analysis of the sensitivity factors (leverage factor) of the MDS and the factors from the analysis of stakeholders' needs. The results showed that the status of sustainability of palm oil management in PT.Perkebunan Nusantara VII Muara Enim, South Sumatera)was quite sustainable with a multidimensional index of 67,67.

The gap in the coastal resources utilization on the North Coast in Serang Regency has the potential to cause conflict between coastal communities dealing with local governments and sea sand mining companies. This research focuses on how the communication practices of the conflicting parties and the typology of conflict, communication interactions in conflict relations and communication strategies in conflict solutions. The research used qualitative approach which was conducted through in-depth interview with informants purposively. The results of the research showed that the dominance of natural resources was the trigger for conflict in the utilization of coastal resources on the North Coast in Serang Regency. The ineffectiveness of government and company communication in managing conflict potentials made coastal communities perceived the sea sand mining activities negatively. Coastal communities fought for their interests in various forms namely demonstrations, anarchism, social conflict between layers and human rights violations. The most active community groups were fishermen because sea sand mining had caused technical problems with fishing and decrease in income. The conflicting parties communicated with each other openly, defensively and in confrontational way. The practice of communication in resolving conflicts ran less effectively because the government and the company did not involve conflicting parties through communication to resolve the conflict. The research findings are the basis of understanding to manage potential conflicts and its escalations through appropriate communication to reach consensus to realize convergence of interests.
