Abstract

Passion fruit (Passifloraceae) was derived from tropical South America. Kind of passion fruit that widely cultivated in South Sulawesi is purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis). This study aimed to observe the activity of Passiflora edulis chromosome at different stages of cell division and observed active mitosis time. The study was conducted by using exploratory descriptive study and obtained results a mitotic on Passiflora edulis occurs at 09.00 until 15.00 pm. Prophase seen in 5 minute after observation, prometaphase in 80 minute after the first observation, metaphase in 154 minutes after the first observation, anaphase in 227 minutes after the first observation, and telophase in 317 minutes after the first observation.Keywords: Chromosome, Mitosis, Passiflora edulis, Purple Passion Fruit

Abstract

Candidiasis is an infectious disease caused by the fungus Candida albicans. This  study aims to determine the effect of patikan kebo (Euphorbia hirta) leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of C. albicans. This research is an experimental study which was compiled using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) by giving Patikan Kebo (E. hirta) leaf extract  in several concentrations, the concentrations of 40%, 45%, 50%, 55%, and 60% and controls (aquadest) and C. albicans mushroom with three repetitions. The parameters measured are the amount of inhibitory diameter formed around the paper discs in the 24 hour and 48 hour period. D ata obtained with three repetitions and observations of 24 hours and 48 hours showed that giving patikan kebo leaf extract in several types of concentration had an effect on inhibiting the growth and fungi of C . albicans. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance (F-test) at the level of ? 0.05 and continued using the Smallest Significant Difference (LSD) ? 0.05 where the results showed that the giving of patikan kebo extract significantly affected the microbial growth test (C. albicans), where the higher the concentration of patikan kebo leaf extract, the greater the inhibition zone formed around the paper disk.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kemampuan ekstrak inulin dari bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) dengan bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri atas satu kontrol dan 3 perlakuan yaitu medium MRS Broth + bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus sebagai kontrol (A0), serta  pemberian ekstrak inulin dengan konsentrasi 2500 ppm (A1), 5000 ppm (A2), dan 10.000 ppm (A3). Parameter yang diukur adalah diameter zona hambat sinbiotik yang terbentuk disekeliling bakteri Escherichia coli pada waktu inkubasi 24 dan 48 jam.  Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan Uji Sidik Ragam serta dilanjutkan uji BNT (Beda Nyata Terkecil) α 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak inulin dengan berbagai konsentrasi berpengaruh nyata dalam meningkatkan daya hambat sinbiotik Lactobacillus acidophilus terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli. Rata-rata diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk pada masa inkubasi 24 jam secara berturut-turut adalah 2,60 mm, 4,60 mm, 5,80 mm, dan 5,93 mm sedangkan pada masa inkubasi 48 jam secara berturut-turut adalah 2,13 mm, 3,23 mm, 4,56 mm, dan 4,96 mm. Konsentrasi inulin yang paling menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli adalah 10.000 ppm baik itu masa inkubasi 24 dan 48 jam.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh ekstrak inulin dari bawang merah (Allium cepa Linn.) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri probiotik Lactobacillus acidophilus. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri atas satu kontrol dan tiga perlakuan, yaitu medium Lactobacilli MRSB + bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus sebagai kontrol (A0), serta  pemberian ekstrak inulin dengan konsentrasi 2500 ppm (A1), 5000 ppm (A2), dan 10.000 ppm (A3). Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pengamatan dan perhitungan jumlah sel dengan menggunakan metode Standart Plate Count (SPC). Parameter yang diamati adalah pertambahan jumlah sel Lactobacillus acidophilus pada medium Lactobacilli MRSA setelah memperoleh nutrisi dari medium Lactobacilli MRSB dengan berbagai konsentrasi. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil pengamatan dianalisis dengan menggunakan sidik ragam Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pada taraf kepercayaan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian inulin ke dalam medium Lactobacilli MRSB dalam penelitian ini ternyata dapat berpengaruh positif terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus. Pertumbuhan terbaik bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus terdapat pada penambahan konsentrasi inulin 10.000 ppm dibandingkan dengan penambahan inulin dengan konsentrasi 5000 ppm, 2500 ppm dan 0 ppm (kontrol). Semakin tinggi konsentrasi inulin maka semakin tinggi tingkat pertumbuhan bakteri Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan logam berat timbal (Pb) pada langkitang (Faunus ater) di perairan Desa Maroneng Kec. Duampanua Kab. Pinrang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April-Mei tahun 2013, pengambilan sampel dilakukan di dua titik stasiun yaitu stasiun 1 (area mangrove) dan stasiun 2 (area pantai). Sampel didestruksi basah dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA) AA-7000 shimadzu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata konsentrasi logam berat timbal (Pb) pada langkitang dari kedua stasiun adalah 1, 82 mg/kg yang artinya telah melampaui ambang batas dari SNI yaitu 1,50 mg/kg.

Abstract

AbstrakDalam dunia industri, baik industri sandang, pangan, papan, transportasi, medis maupun rekreasi tidak terlepas dari penggunaan kantong plastik. Karena bersifat praktis, berbagai jenis kantong plastik sebagai kemasan selalu menjadi pilihan dalam aktivitas masyarakat. Akan tetapi, sifat plastik yang sulit terdegradasi pada lingkungan alami menimbulkan permasalahan sebagai salah satu sumber pencemaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi mikroorganisme tanah yang diisolasi dari sampah Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA) Antang Makassar dalam mendegradasi kantong plastik LDPE hitam dan putih. Metode biodegradasi plastik yang digunakan adalah kolom Winogradsky dengan menggunakan kolom kaca 1.000 mL yang berisi 500 gram tanah sampah TPA Antang dan plastik uji LDPE warna hitam dan putih. Kemudian dilakukan pengukuran persentase degradasi selama 3 bulan masa inkubasi dengan waktu panen selama 3 minggu sekali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 6 isolat dalam kolom Winogradsky mampu mendegradasi plastik LDPE hitam sebesar 3,5% dan 6 isolat lainnya mampu mendegradasi plastik LDPE putih sebesar 2%. Selanjutnya, isolat ini dapat digunakan sebagai agen biodegradasi plastik di TPA Antang Makassar.Abstract The use of plastic bags is almost unavoidable in industries, including the food, clothing, transportation, construction, medical, and recreational industries. Various types of plastic bags have been used in various types of packaging, because of the value of practicality. However, the difficulties in the degradation process become a problem as a pollution source in the environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of soil microbes isolated in Antang landfill, Makassar, in degrading black and white plastics of LDPE. The biodegradation method used was the Winogradsky column using a 1,000 mL glass column containing 500 grams of Antang landfill soil and using black and white LDPE as well. The percentage of degradation was measured for three months incubation period with harvest time for three weeks. The results showed that the inoculum in Winogradsky column was able to degrade the black plastic by 3.5% and the white plastic by 2%. The results of macroscopic and microscopic characterization showed that six isolates were degrading the black plastic and six isolates were degrading the white plastic, with different characteristics. Furthermore, this isolate can be utilized as a biodegradation agent for plastic in the Antang landfill.

Abstract

Liver damage or liver disease is caused by many factors, one of which is by consuming drinks that contain alcohol. Tuak is one of the drinks that contain alcohol. This study aims to determine the effect of palm wine administration on the histopathological picture of male ICR mice (Mus musculus) liver. This study used 20 mice consisting of 4 treatments namely P0 = 0 mL / day / head; P1 = 0.1 mL / day / head; P2 = 0.2 mL / day / head and P3 = 0.3 mL / day / head. The parameters observed were body weight of mice, liver weight and liver histopathology of mice. The results showed that administration of palm wine to male ICR mice at different doses gave an influence on the histopathological picture of male ICR mice (Mus musculus).AbstrakKerusakan hati atau penyakit liver disebabkan oleh banyak faktor, salah satunya adalah dengan mengkonsumsi minuman yang mengandung alkohol. Tuak merupakan salah satu minuman yang mengandung alkohol. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tuak terhadap gambaran histopatologi hati mencit (Mus musculus) ICR jantan. Penelitian ini menggunakan 20 ekor mencit yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan yaitu P0 = 0 mL/hari/ekor; P1 = 0,1 mL/hari/ekor; P2 = 0,2 mL/hari/ekor dan P3 = 0,3 mL/hari/ekor. Parameter yang diamati adalah berat badan mencit, berat hati dan histopatologi hati mencit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian tuak pada mencit ICR jantan dengan dosis yang berbeda memberikan pengaruh terhadap gambaran histopatologi hati mencit (Mus musculus) ICR jantan.Kata Kunci: Hati, Histopatologi, Mencit, Tuak

Abstract

Grazing the cows not only on the grass, but today there are at landfill. This study aimed to determine the type of parasitic worms in cow feces and to determine the prevalence of worm eggs in the feces of cattle in pastored around the landfill Tamangapa Makassar. Identification qualitatively using flotation method, whereas quantitative using Mc. Master method. The identification results obtained from 25 samples of cow feces, there are 3 types of positive samples containing worm eggs Oesophagostomum sp. and Cooperia sp. using the floating method. While using Mc. Master method showed nothing of the worm eggs.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the microbiological quality of street food at campus II State Islamic University (UIN) Alauddin Makassar. This descriptive research describes contaminant Coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli in a sample street food in Campus II UIN Alauddin Makassar through Microbiological test. Counting the number of Coliform bacteria found in street food and Escherichia coli found in snack through methods Coliform MPN (Most Probable Number). The research was conducted at the Center for Health Laboratory Makassar (BBLK). These results obtained for Coliform MPN showed that levels of total Coliform bacteria were highest in Siomay code C = > 1,100 Coliform/g, this means that the sample does not qualify because it is not in accordance with the National Standards Board and ISO-7388-2009 the maximum limit value = 10 Coliform MPN/g. In Siomay code A = 240 Coliform/g, Batagor code B = 1.100 Coliform/g, and meatball code D = > 1,100 Coliform/g. Thus, it was concluded that this value is generally illustrates that coliform bacteria content in snack foods sold in the Campus II UIN Alauddin Makassar, low quality and already exceeds the threshold required quality standard that is healthy and nutritious food for our body. The MPN of Escherichia coli showed that the total levels of Escherichia coli are the highest in Siomay code C = > 1,100 E. coli/g, this means that the sample does not qualify because it is not according to the National Standardization Agency and SNI 7388-2009 which limits Escherichia coli MPN maximum value = < 3 E. coli/g. In Siomay code A = 240 E.coli/g, Batagor code B = 3,6 E. coli/g, and meatball code D => 120 E. coli/g. Thus, it was concluded that this value is generally illustrates that the content of Escherichia coli in street food sold in the Campus II UIN Alauddin Makassar, low quality and already exceeds the threshold.Keywords: Coliform, Escherichia coli, microbiological quality, Most Probable Number (MPN)
