Abstract

Abstract Macrobrachiummammilodactyluswas a type of freshwater shrimp that inhabits swamp area around the Riau Main Stadium. The population of shrimp in the swamp was relatively high and it indicatesthat the reproduction of the shrimp was succeed. This research aims to understandthe reproductive biological aspectsof the shrimp and it was conducted in March-April 2018.Sampling were conducted 4 times, once/week.Totally 100 shrimps (20 males and 80 females) were caught, 26.71-44.67mm TL and 0.2052-0.814gr BW.Male and female sex ratio is 1:4. In each sampling time there were shrimps with 2nd, 3rd, 4th maturity levels. Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) of the male was ranged from 0.48% -3.56% and the female was ranged from 0.02-9.30%. Fecunditywas around 137-208 eggs / shrimp and the egg diameter was 0.6-0.8 mm.There were 52 ovigerous females that carried 67-218 eggs / female. The diameter of the abdomen’s attached eggs range from 0.6-0.9 mm, and the embryos were in 1st stage (eyeless embryos) and 2nd stage (embryos with developing eyes). In the ovigerous females, there were several individuals that have developing eggs inside their ovary (in the 2nd and 3rd maturity levels). This fact indicates that M. mammilodactylusisa partial spawner. Keyword : Freshwater Shrimp, Sex Ratio, GSI, Maturity Level, ovigerous females

Abstract

AbstractMacrobrachium mammilodactylus is a type of freshwater shrimp that inhabits the Terminal AKAP Lake. The population of freshwater shrimp in this lake is relatively high and its indicate that reproduction of the shrimp was succeed. To understand the reproduction biology of the shrimp, a study has been carried out from February to March 2018. Sampling were conducted 4 times, once/week. Totally 107 shrimps (26 male and 81 female) were captured, they were 23.31-47.50 mm TL. and 0.1932-1.2132 gr BW. Sex ratio of males and females was 1:3.1. In each sampling time there were shrimps with 2nd, 3rd and 4th maturity level. Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) of the male was ranged from        0.80-3.19% and that the female was ranged from 0.98-4.88%. Fecundity is around 128-273 eggs/shrimp and the egg diameter was 0.43-0.73 mm. There were 27 ovigerous females that carried 13-289 eggs/female. The diameter of carried egg was 0.50-1.25 mm with embryo development in stage I (the embryo with no eye) and II (the embryo with developed eyes). The relationship of fecundity and TL toward BW are weak, r=0.39and r = 0.37respectively, while the relationship between fecundity and Gonad Weight was strong (r = 0.84). There were ovigerous females that had eggs in several developing stages inside their ovary, and it indicates that M. mammilodactylus  is a partial spawner. Keyword: Freshwater shrimp, sex ratio, maturity level,GSI, fecundity

Abstract

Abstract Fish feed pellets that enter the water around the floating net cage may affects the feeding habit of wild fish living around the cage. To understand the stomach content of fish living around the floating net cage in the Koto Panjang Dam, a study has been conducted on  December 2018.  Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ 2 weeks and the fish were captured using   gill net and lure, in the surface up to 15 m depth. Stomach content of the fish was then analyzed and identified. Were 9 fish species present. The remains of fish feed pellets were present in the stomach of all fishes captured and the percentage of fish pellets in the stomach of the fish were as follows:   15% in the Puntius schwanefeldii; 67% in Hampala bimaculata; 25% in Tynnichtys vaillanti ;  83% in  Puntius bramoides ;   23% in Macrones nigriceps; 25% in Mastacembelus unicolor; 50% in Osphronemus goramy; 67% in Cyprinus carpio and100%  in Oreochromis niloticus. High portion of fish feed pellets in the stomach of several wild fish species indicates that the wild fishes are greatly affected by the presence of fish feed pellets remains, while the presence of the pellets in the stomach of M. unicolor and M. nigriceps indicates that the remain of the pellets also affects the fish that live in   15 m depth.  Keywords: Pellets, feeding habit, floating net, stomach content, Koto Panjang Reservoir

Abstract

AbstractPuntius hexazona (Sumatra fish) is a type of freshwater fish that inhabits the streams in the Riau University area and the upstream of the Sibam River. A study aims to understand the reproductive biology of P.hexazona has been conducted from May-August 2019. The fish was sampled 6 times, twice/month. Parameters measured were sexual characteristics, sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Results shown that the fish from the streamswas 54 (24 males and 30 females,  sex ratio of 1: 1.25), while that of the Sibam River was 38 (16 males and 22 females, sex ratio of 1: 1.38). The average of GSI and fecundity of the fish from the streams was 3.37 and 432 respectively, while those of the Sibam River was 3.08 and 327. Egg diameter of all fish sampled was ranged from  0.33 to 0.78 mm. The eggs distribute evenly in the ovary an it indicates that the fish is a total spawner. Keywords: Sumatra fish, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index, fecundity, total spawner.

Abstract

Abstract            Channa lucius or snakehead fishinhabit the Kampar Lama Oxbow Lake. This research aims to understand the pattern of otolith growth rings ofthat fish and it was conducted in July to August 2019. The fish were caught using fish trap, once/week. There were 58 fishes (38 male fishes and 20 female fishes). The otolith (sagita) were removed and manually shaved. Growth ring pattern was studied using a binocular microscope. Among the fishes captured, only 49 fishes have dark growth rings in their otolith.  The otolith length was 5.49-9.87 mm and their weight was 0.0212-0.0635 g. The number of dark ring in the otolith was 1-3. Result shown that the distance between the nucleus and the first dark ring ranges from 0.2-1.45 mm, indicating that the first dark ring were formed individually and they were not formed by periodical incident in the fish life. Water quality in the sampling area was good and it may be sufficient to support the life of C. lucius. Keywords :dark ring, channidae, growth pattern , sagita

Abstract

AbstractAnabas testudineus is type of fish commonly inhabit the Lubuk Siam Lake in Riau. However, information on reproductive biology of the fish is rare. To understand the biologycal aspects of this fish, astudy was conducted. The fish was sampled once at two weeks for a month period, from July to August 2019. Parameters measured were sex ratio, gonad maturity level, Gonad Somatic Index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Result shown that there was 44 males and 53 females (sex ratio 1:1) . The female’s body is larger and has brighter color than those of the male. The gonadal matury leves in females was 4 in Lubuk Siam River. The Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) of male is around0.40% - 1.13%  and female is around 0.57%-4.60%. The average fecundity of the female was 1.986 -3.318. Egg diameter was around 0.53 - 0.58 mm. This result indicated that betok fish were total spawner. Diameter and the evenly indicate the fish is total spawner. The  absence of major females in the study area may indicate that the study area is not spawning graund. Keywords: Sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatix index, fecundity, Total Spawner

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Lubuk Siam oxbow lake and Kampar Kanan Rivers have different ecosystem characteristics and it may affects the growth pattern of fish living in those river. The growth of the fish, however, can be mirrored in the growth patterns in the otolith.  A research aims to understand the pattern of otolith growth rings in the  P.grootii captured from both areas was conducted in July to August 2019. Sampling was done 4 times/ month. Otoliths were saved,  and the growth ring pattern was observed using a binocular microscope. Results shown that the otolith of fish from the Lubuk Siam lake was 3-4.9 mm length and   0.0132-0.0043 mg weight,  while that of the fish from the Kampar Kanan River was 2- 4.3 mm length  and 0.0125-0.030 mg weight. The  fish from the lake   was bigger than fish in the river. However, the fish from the river tend to have more dark rings in the otolith and have heavier otolith than  that of the lake’s fish.  These data indicate that the fish from the river may grew up slowly and face more growth related problem than the fish from the lake. Keywords: Dark Ring, Otolith, Growth Pattern, Sagita, Pristolepis grootii
