Abstract

There are two main issues raised in this article i.e.: what can be contributed by history through scientific biographical approach in defining the closest reasons of the  implementation of  `Eka Dasa Rudra Ceremony` at Besakih Temple in 1963? This issue is very important to be set forward due to the tendency of the foreign researchers who wrote on this topic; they tried to find out the reasons which were far beyond; therefore the related reasons became neglected. Further, what can be contributed by the biographical approach towards humanities and social science? Applying the biographical approach, the previous historians who were just as the consumers of the theory then they are able to open a new path to humanities and show the premises of theories of the critical social sciences taking place unconsciously in social practices.

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses whether a biography can function as a source and a methodology in the research of humanities. Taking biography as a source, researchers of humanities can use a collection of biographical facts as research material or make it as a resource of writing. While taking it as a methodology, they manage to apply biographical methodology as a science in their research. This is not a simple issue because the 1980s biographical thinking cannot adapt themselves with the latest development in the science of humanities after the emergence of post-structuralist approaches. The approach of scientific biography of 1990s cannot adapt itself either, and seems to be awkward, and difficult to be followed up. Therefore, the authority of history as a science in universities in Indonesia needs to hold a congress to seek a contemporary biographical thinking which can keep up with the influence of post-modern approach [beyond modernism] and post-structuralist theories [beyond structuralism] in the researches of humanities. This study attempts to give some preliminary thoughts by revealing the weaknesses of the previous biographical methodology and also attempts to complete it by offering some alternative thoughts through borrowing or absorbing relevant post- structuralist theories.

Abstract

Citrus Vein Phloem Degeneration (CVPD) disease is a major obstacle in the effort to develop and increase the production of citrus fruits in Bali. The study on the polymorphism of CVPDr DNA fragment shows that the CVPDr DNA fragment is resistant factor againt CVPD disease. This study try to elaborate the difference in resistance led to differences in plant nutrients deficiencies in the citrus plant with CVPD disease. . Besides, there are also difference in the quality of fruit due to CVPD disease attacks such as water content, vitamin C content and antioxidants in citrus fruits, color, flavor, taste and texture and fruit into small, hard and sour taste.

Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate the population dynamics of the cabbage insect pests, Plutella xylostella and Crocidolomia pavonana under natural conditions. The population succession patterns of both pests were determined by observing the abundance of their population on a regular basis from the beginning to the end of the planting season. Understanding the population succession patterns of P. xylostella and C. pavonana will give an idea the shifting time by both pests on attacking the crops, therefore on deciding the time of controlling. The population succession patterns occur in 8 weeks of planting season. P. xylostella dominated the cabbage plants when they were 1-5 weeks after planting (WAP), but when the cabbage plants were more than 5 weeks old they were dominated by C pavonana.
