The size of the UK BNPL market was said to have nearly ********** over the course of 2020, but only made up a small portion of overall lending in the country. The source - the United Kingdom's Financial Conduct Authority or FCA - admits these payments did not fall within its remit in February 2021 as buy now, pay later was not supervised or regulated in the United Kingdom. The figures were provided to them by some of the main BNPL providers in the country, potentially indicating they do not reflect the entire market. By late September 2021, there was no news yet on regulation arriving in the United Kingdom for buy now, pay later - as no meeting had yet taken place between the FCA and the UK Treasury. A global comparison lists the UK as one of the top countries worldwide for BNPL.
