Abstract

ABSTRACT Dengue fever is an environmental-based disease due to the lack of public awareness of maintaining environmental cleanliness. Cases and spread of dengue fever increase especially during the rainy season, which is the best time for mosquitoes to breed. 3M Plus Mosquito Nest Eradication, which involves the participation of the entire community, is the most effective method of preventing and eradicating dengue fever. This activity aims to provide knowledge about preventing dengue fever through eradicating mosquito nests and seeing whether or not Aedes Sp larvae are present. at the local landfill. Activities were carried out in Jipangan Village, Banyudono, Boyolali. The methods used were surveys of mosquito larvae, data collection and interviews based on questionnaires regarding mosquito nest eradication activities which are usually carried out by residents, and outreach. Of the 10 houses visited, no mosquito larvae were found in all landfills. Residents have also made several efforts to eradicate mosquito nests, such as routinely draining and checking the landfill and using mosquito repellent. It can be concluded that the Larva Free Score value from 10 houses shows a result of 100%. This has exceeded the target value targeted by the Government. Residents from the selected sample have also taken action to eradicate mosquito nests. This effort can continue to be improved to reduce the incidence of dengue fever.

Abstract

Dengue virus infection (IVD) is still a health problem in Indonesia. In Karangbangun Matesih Karanganyar Village, there were 13 cases of IVD in April 2024. The government program to eradicate IVD vectors has not been implemented optimally. Karangbangun Village has potential healthcare resources to be used as agents for eradicating IVD vectors. So far there has been no education about the function of jumantik as larva monitors and mosquito nest eradication (PSN). Therefore, it is necessary to provide education about the function of jumantik and PSN to health cadres in Karangbangun Village. The aim and benefit of this community service activity is that the health cadres of Karangbangun Matesih Karanganyar Village understand the function of jumantik and PSN. The extension activity was preceded by a pretest, and speaker presentation and ended with a posttest. The results of the education showed an increase in health cadres' knowledge after the education based on a comparison of pre-test and post-test scores (p<0.001; Effect Size (Cohen's d) = -1.993). Education about the function of jumantik and eradicating mosquito nests to health cadres in Karangbangun Village increased knowledge significantly and the average post-test score showed an increase.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the relationships between age, salt consumption, coastal proximity, and hypertension risk in populations along the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia, addressing a significant gap in understanding environmental determinants of hypertension in coastal communities. Methodology: A cross-sectional study analyzed 4,699 patient records from the Integrated Health Post information system in Cepiring Subdistrict, Kendal Regency, Central Java during May-July 2024. Variables examined included age, blood pressure readings, self-reported salt consumption, and coastal proximity (measured as distance from village boundary to coastline). Bivariate analysis using Chi-Square tests and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression were performed to identify associations and independent risk factors. Results: The study revealed significant associations between all examined factors and hypertension. Advanced age (≥50 years) increased hypertension risk (aOR 1.463; p<0.001). Living within 147 meters of the coastline unexpectedly demonstrated a protective effect (aOR 0.773; p=0.009). Excessive salt consumption showed the strongest association with hypertension (aOR 4.365; p<0.001), presenting a four-fold increased risk compared to moderate or low consumption. Applications/Originality/Value: This study provides novel insights into the paradoxical protective effect of coastal proximity on hypertension risk while confirming the significant impact of age and salt consumption. These findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions addressing dietary management and hypertension prevention, particularly among older populations. The unexpected protective role of coastal proximity warrants further investigation into potential environmental or lifestyle factors unique to coastal communities that might mitigate hypertension risk.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents, as a vulnerable group, need to have a good understanding of diabetes and adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent this disease. Objective: This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge about diabetes melitus and the level of physical activity among adolescents in Indonesia. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study involving high school students from various regions in Indonesia. Data was collected using a questionnaire to measure knowledge about diabetes and physical activity levels. Results: The results showed that most adolescents had a fair understanding of diabetes, but many still lacked adequate knowledge. The overall level of physical activity among adolescents was still low, especially among females and 18-year-olds. Discussion: The low level of physical activity and inadequate knowledge about diabetes among adolescents is a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Factors such as gender, age, grade, and domicile can influence the level of knowledge and physical activity of adolescents. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of improving adolescents' knowledge about diabetes and encouraging them to be more physically active. School-based interventions involving parents and utilizing digital technology can be effective solutions to achieve this goal.

Abstract

Refractive disorders occur when the eye cannot focus light properly on the retina, resulting in blurred vision. Refractive disorders can be classified into myopia (eyes that are too long), hyperopia (eyes that are not long enough), and astigmatism (uneven focus due to the shape of the cornea). Correction through optical aids such as glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery is needed to obtain clear vision. Field observations carried out in class 5D of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta identified a concrete problem in the form of a high prevalence of refractive eye disorders. This condition is closely correlated with the low understanding of students and the school environment about the importance of maintaining visual health. This limited knowledge results in minimal preventive measures and early detection of refractive disorders. Based on these findings, interventions in the form of comprehensive education about eye health and implementation of early screening using the Snellen Chart are priority needs for the school community in Ketelan Village, Banjarsari District. This approach is expected to increase awareness and provide preventive solutions to the identified refractive disorder problems.
