Abstract

Older people’s health care is carried out by involving the family as a support group. If done optimally, the support provided will help maintain the health of older people. The purpose of the study was to analyze the determinant factors (family support and burden) on the quality and satisfaction of life the older people. This descriptive correlational research was the second stage of previous research related to the identification of caregivers' burden when caring for older people. A sample of 104 respondents was taken through simple random sampling. The results showed that the family support and family burden affected the older people's quality of life (< 0.05), but did not affect the older people's life satisfaction (> 0.05). Family support and burdens affect the QoL for older people, which is due to the family's ability in caring for older people and the need for long-term services at home. Recommendations for health workers, especially nurses, are to focus not only on the elderly but also to the family's physical, psychological, and financial burdens to increase family support.

Actions that can be made in students’ knowledge suitable are by providing health education. This study aims to provide education about implementing the COVID-19 prevention health protocol on changes in knowledge. Methods: The methodology used in this study was quasi-experimental without using a control group; the statistical test used was paired t-test. Results: The results of this study indicate a change in knowledge between before being given education and after that with a P-value <0.005. Conclusion: There is an effect of providing education to increase knowledge in the health protocol of COVID-19 prevention.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is classified as a non-communicable disease which has been estimated to have increased, so a risk factor control program recommended by the Ministry of Health is required according to the DM management pillar. Health cadre empowerment is also needed to actively support non-communicable diseases programs. The purpose of this community empowerment was to change the behaviour of people with type 2 diabetes in glucose control and improve the health cadres' skills in Posbindu PTM activities. The program was carried out in October 2018 until March 2019. The targets were: 86 type 2 diabetes patients, 24 cadres in Cisalak Pasar Kelurahan, 120 cadres in Cimanggis District, and 293 cadres in Depok City. The results showed that patients could control their glucose and health cadres experienced improved skills. The role of community nurses is continuously needed to provide appropriate interventions to the patients.

Abstract

The main focus of the community service program this time is fostering and increasing family independence in caring for the elderly. Elderly families are expected to be able to increase family independence in caring for the elderly at home. The first method of implementing the program using the "elderly polite family" approach is training and coaching of health cadres which will be carried out during 1 meeting. The service will involve students in carrying out these training and coaching activities. Next, a Focus Group Discussion will be held to find out the extent of the family's efforts to care for the elderly at home. The instrument uses the Apgar Family Score. The service results show that the p-value is 0.001 < 0.05. Based on decision-making in testing, it can be concluded that H1 is accepted, which means that there is effectiveness of the polite approach to elderly interventions on family independence in caring for the elderly. Elderly care needs to involve components to support the success of care, such as family and health cadres, as well as health workers in health services. Health workers must be able to choose what methods and media are given when carrying out nursing interventions.
