Born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, soccer was everything to me growing up. I played the sport for most of my life, and eventually to California to finish high school, hoping to take my soccer skills to the next level. But life threw me a curveball—or rather, a football. One day, the head coach of the football team at St. Mary's High School asked if I wanted to kick for the team. I thought to myself, "Why not?" I learned how critical every position was, and how everyone had to own their specific tasks to make the team succeed. This understanding of teamwork, where each individual has an essential role, shaped the way I approach challenges even today in my research.  After high school, I went on to play footb...

2023-10-26: Jhon G. Botello (Computer Science PhD Student)

Image
Hello Everyone! I am Jhon G. Botello from Colombia. I am an Engineer with a Master's in Industrial Engineering. I obtained these degrees at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. Recently, I started a new chapter in my academic life by joining the Web Science and Digital Libraries (WS-DL) research group at Old Dominion University (ODU) as a Ph.D. student in Computer Science under the supervision of Dr. Michele Weigle .  My interest in the field of Computer Science (CS) stems from the growing, important, and interesting relevance of technology in our society. Computer Science plays a crucial role in process automation, decision-making, and complex problem-solving. I believe that by combining my skills in Industrial Engineering, focused on data science and analysis, multivariate statistics, modeling, and simulation, with a Ph.D. in Computer Science , I will be able to contribute to the development of solutions to challenges of great interest in society. I am taking...
