The Department of Computer Science (CS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) celebrated its sixth annual Trick-or-Research event on October 31, 2024, blending Halloween festivities with academic exploration. Check out our previous Trick-or-Research blog posts here: 2021 , 2022 , 2023 . This unique event brought together faculty, staff, and students to showcase the department's cutting-edge research and foster new collaborations. Designed especially to introduce undergraduate students to the vibrant research opportunities within the department, Trick-or-Research featured interactive lab tours, engaging demonstrations, and opportunities to network with professors and join research groups. 2024-01-31: ODU CS 2023 Trick-or-Research Event Recap

The Department of Computer Science (CS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) held its fifth annual Trick-or-Research event on Monday, October 31, 2023. This event is a collaborative effort from the faculty, staff, and students at ODU CS to spread awareness on their ongoing research and foster new collaborations. This year, the event was held in a hybrid fashion; participants were able to visit labs in the E.V. 2022-11-16: ODU CS 2022 Trick-or-Research Event Trip Report

The Department of Computer Science (CS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) held its fourth annual Trick-or-Research event on Monday, October 31, 2022. A hybrid approach was used for the lab tours this year. Participants were able to visit labs in the E.V. Williams Engineering & Computational Sciences Building (E&CSB) and Dragas Hall in addition to the virtual ones via the Gather.town platform. There were a total of 11 different ODU research labs participating in this year's event. A lot of preparation was required on their part went into making this another successful event. Each group decorated their virtual and physical labs, prepared posters, planned demonstrations, and even packed bags of candy! 2021-11-18: ODU CS 2021 Trick-or-Research Event Trip Report

The  Department of Computer Science (CS)  at Old Dominion University (ODU) held its 3rd Trick-or-Research event, which was organized by Dr. Sampath and his goblins in the NIRDS lab.  This year, the event was held virtually via the Gather platform.   Different groups and labs in the CS department customized their own rooms in Gather.town with demos and posters surrounded by spooky décor.  Attendees created their own avatars before venturing out to explore the town.  Some physically dressed for the occasion while others took advantage of a virtual wardrobe courtesy of Snap Camera .   The Gather.town virtual platform was a great choice for this event.  It allowed users to see only those individuals in the same room and allowed avatars in close range to have natural conversations via video chat.  I will tell you more about my own adventure through the different locations in Gather.town and what you missed.
