Toon Sandwich is an animated web series on Youtube created by ArtSpear Entertainment featuring parodies of upcoming film trailers.
The season 3 premiere, "Super-Hero-Bowl!", was released on January 27, 2017. It was followed up with season 4's premiere, "Super-Villain-Bowl!" on April 19, 2018.
Toon Sandwich provides examples of:
- Accidental Misnaming: Tony Stark tries to guess how Thanos' name is pronounced before guessing "The Anus".
- Always Identical Twins: Barry Allen and his twin brother who was never blessed with superhuman speed, Barry Allen.
- Anachronism Stew: Belle owns a smartphone and expects a fancy castle to have Netflix in the 18th century.
- Art Shift: The animation improves considerably starting from the trailer spoof of Doctor Strange (2016), and all the cartoon characters began having five fingers each from then on.
- Bizarre Alien Biology: Kryptonian men can give birth.
- Didn't Think This Through: Lara Croft pulls Indiana Jones back to avoid the iconic Boulder. When she points out why he never thought of it, Indi points out that it will block the entrance and they'll die of thirst.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: There's bound to be a few of these popping up in the early videos, and it's especially evident in Toon Sandwich's first "platter" (what they call a season of videos):
- Pre-Art Evolution, animation from their debut videos in 2015 are more crude and looks quite different from their later outputs. The animation relies less on Rotoscoping (a style Joe Bauer adopts around 2016) and frequently runs on Noodle People and Four-Fingered Hands (this was lampshaded in an online Q&A
where Joe points out, "Tony Stark has five fingers now!").
- Camera work from Toon Sandwich's earlier videos are also quite static and more often than not, contains a single frame per scene, and if there are any movements, it usually occurs on a single elevation. This is especially noticeable at the end of the Jurassic World
parody (the first spoof they made) - when Owen is cruising alongside his raptors they're clearly animated as moving in a straight line.
- The first platter also features plenty of adult-based humor, perverted jokes and dirty gags, like the Jurassic World parody showing Owen bedding a raptor, the Terminator: Genisys spoof having John Connor accidentally clutching Kyle Reese's dick, masturbation gags in the Terminator:Genisys note and Ant-Man note trailers, Superman's statue getting a dong graffitied on it in the Batman v. Superman spoof and Superman giving birth to Dracula's baby after getting a bat-fetish in the same video. These kind of jokes died down in later seasons.
- While Easter Egg hunts are used in all the trailer spoofs, the first platter's six videos (Jurassic World, Terminator: Genisys, Ant-Man, Spectre, The Force Awakens and Batman v. Superman), rather than referencing stuff related to the film being parodied note , instead contain references to the other five spoofs. This doesn't happen in any subsequent platters.
- The first platter is also much more straightforward, simply spoofing a set of trailers for then-upcoming movies and doesn't feature any spin-off parodies. In the second platter there's a What If? alternate take on The Force Awakens (Kylo Ren - Dark Side and Proud!
), the channel's first "Couples Therapy" video (for Joker and Harley Quinn
, no less...) and later seasons more or less made them a norm.
- Trailer parodies from the first and second platters tend to focus on a single moment from the trailer being spoofed and then move on, instead of dragging out or adding scenes, resulting in their earlier videos being rather short on runtime (their first six trailer spoofs each had a runtime below 3 minutes - the one they made for Spectre
is ten seconds shy of two minutes). In their post-2020 parodies it's not uncommon to have The Stinger running for over two minutes.
- Toon Sandwich's annual "Trailer Trash-Up" (basically a long video that compiles trailers of around ten movies and condenses all in a single parody) is a tradition that starts in 2018, three years after their channel's debut.
- Pre-Art Evolution, animation from their debut videos in 2015 are more crude and looks quite different from their later outputs. The animation relies less on Rotoscoping (a style Joe Bauer adopts around 2016) and frequently runs on Noodle People and Four-Fingered Hands (this was lampshaded in an online Q&A
- Embarrassing Nickname: Thanos was known as "The Anus" in his childhood.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus : Several videos have these:
- In their very first trailer spoof, for Jurassic World, pause when the video shows the Heart Rate Monitor for the various security officers. The screen shows their surnames: Deitrich, Hicks, Hudson, Drake, Apone...
- In the spoof for The Force Awakens, a X-Wing pilot's helmet briefly changes into Ant-Man's helmet.
- Take a close look at the quick shot of the Spectre ring from the Spectre trailer spoof. The Unreadable Disclaimer states: "Redeem this ring at your next SPECTRE meeting to receive a free large soda."
- The Rogue One Trailer spoof have the words THX1138 showing up on a dark screen moments before the end credits.
- Spidey swings below a helicopter in the last few seconds of Captain America: Civil War's first trailer spoof.
- In the second trailer spoof for Captain America: Civil War, pause when Tony Stark shouts "RHODES!!!"... and see the GPS map littered with superhero names and references (Scott Lane, Romanoff-Ramp, Vulve Arena, just for starters...)
- Also, a Deadpool cameo in the ending. He's on a skateboard.
- Had the Silly Thing in Reverse :
- Kylo Ren: Dark Side and Proud ends with Kylo accidentally impaling himself with his crossguard sabre.
- In their compilation spoof for 2019 movies, the Terminator: Dark Fate part had Sarah Connor firing a rocket launcher backwards and blowing up her own transport.

- Literal Metaphor: When an acid-tripping Mr. White sees James Bond as "a kite dancing in a hurricane".
- Man of a Thousand Voices: Joe Bauer and Rita Artmann voiced ALL the characters in the series, all by themselves.
- Mondegreen Gag: Bruce Wayne mistakes "age of heroes" for "age of churros" in the Justice League spoof.
- Poor Communication Kills: Happens in the Thor: Ragnarok spoof, where Barry's strong accent results in the Valkyries riding on flying horses instead of flying saucers.Valkyrie: Augh, that would've worked!
- Roger Rabbit Effect: Toon Sandwich Life.
- Rubik's Cube: International Genius Symbol: In the spoof of Jurassic World when the trailer briefly talks about how intelligent the Indominus Rex is, the Indominus Rex briefly sets down a solved Rubik's cube.

of Spider-Man: No Way Home, when Spiderman causes Dr. Strange to screw up his spell. Cue Strange telling Spiderman to leave the room so he can let out some steam.
Dr. Strange: Peter... would you please step outside for a minute?
[Peter obliges]
Dr. Strange: [offscreen] GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'M GONNA KILL THAT LITTLE BRAT!!!! NYAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!! - Torso with a View: In the trailor spoof for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Superman uses his Eye Beams to carve a heart-shaped hole into Joker's chest.
- Waxing Lyrical: This bit from the first spoof they made, for Jurassic World.Owen: [referring to Claire] That's because you're an Uptown Girl from a White Bread World. I only eat whole grain!
