Abstract

Many high school students consider chemistry to be a difficult subject. Most students still have difficulty understanding chemical concepts comprehensively, but the obstacles they experience have not been fully identified by teachers. Chemistry is one of the subjects that is less favored by students, because science, especially chemistry, is studied abstract things. Students' difficulties in learning chemistry result in many students experiencing failure in learning chemistry material. This study aims to describe and explain various learning difficulties and the factors causing difficulties in learning chemistry experienced by high school students. This study involved 44 students from all grades XII MIA and one chemistry teacher as the subjects. This study used a phenomenological research type with a qualitative approach. The data collection process was carried out using document study methods, observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Based on the results of the study, the level of student learning difficulties is categorized as slightly difficult (43%), quite difficult (48%), and difficult (9%). Internal factors that cause learning difficulties include a lack of understanding of chemistry material, low mathematical ability, and minimal motivation in learning chemistry. External factors that influence learning difficulties include the teacher's teaching methods, the negative impact of socializing with peers, and less conducive learning situations and times.

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires teachers to be able to integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPACK) into the learning process. However, many teachers still struggle to understand and apply TPACK optimally, resulting in suboptimal learning quality in the digital era. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' understanding and skills in implementing TPACK through socialization and structured training. The methods used include lectures, discussions, hands-on practice in developing TPACK-based lesson plans, as well as pretest and posttest evaluations. The activity was conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Pematangsiantar in March-April 2025, involving teachers as active participants. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in teachers' understanding of TPACK concepts and practices, reflected in an average increase in pretest scores from 27.9% to 57.37% on the posttest. Teachers also became more confident in designing technology-based learning and effectively utilizing digital media. This activity demonstrated that TPACK socialization can strengthen teachers' competencies and improve the quality of learning in the digital age. Continuous support and further training are still needed to ensure optimal implementation of TPACK.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of Pop-Up Book learning media on the learning outcomes of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) of grade IV students at UPTD SD Negeri 122379 Pematangsiantar. The Pop-Up Book media was chosen because it can present material visually, interactively, and interestingly, so that it is expected to be able to increase students' understanding and interest in learning. The type of research used is quantitative with experimental methods, using a pre-experimental design in the form of One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample amounted to 25 grade IV students who were selected in total sampling. The data collection technique used multiple-choice tests administered before and after treatment. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant increase in student learning outcomes after the use of Pop-Up Book media. The results of the hypothesis test showed that the t_hitung value of 26.131 was greater than the t_tabel of 2.064 (t_hitung > t_tabel), so that H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. These findings show that the use of Pop-Up Book media has a positive influence on students' social studies learning outcomes. In addition, this media also increases students' active involvement in the learning process and assists teachers in delivering material in a more varied and fun way. Based on these results, it is recommended that teachers consider the use of Pop-Up Book media as an alternative in improving the quality of social studies learning in elementary schools
