Abstract

Abstract

The development of beef cattle operations is conducted cohesively and sustainably within the livestock industry, considering socio-cultural, technical, economic, and ecological factors. It also fosters investment, business expansion, and job creation, and improves farmers' welfare. This research aims to design a strategic program to strengthen corporate institutions for beef cattle at the D'Reppa Cow House, Gowa Regency. This research used a survey method with interviews. Primary data was obtained through interviews with informants/experts using questionnaires and analyzed using Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) to formulate complexity, hierarchy (levels), and classification between elements. The results of this research show that the ten sub-elements of the strategic program for strengthening beef cattle livestock corporations at the D'Reppa Cow House, Gowa Regency, are divided into four quadrants.  The strategic program design for the institutional strengthening of beef cattle livestock corporations is establishing a research and development base camp for beef cattle farming businesses based on livestock corporations. The research has limitations in terms of data collection constrained to informants difficult to find so data collection is not optimal, in addition, farmers still do not know about massive livestock corporations. Future research is expected to pay attention to the shortcomings of this study in the aspect of data collection and determining responses

Abstract

Agricultural businesses, including beef cattle farming, are prone to risks and losses. Partnerships provide many benefits and reduce the risk of business losses through market assurance, added value, and an increased portfolio of productive assets. The Bali cattle cluster is a place of centralized development in cattle breeding to enhance high competitiveness. The study aims to build a partnership model for managing the risk of the Bali cattle business in the Bali cattle purification cluster. The research used a survey method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed two partnership models in the research location: the partnership of the livestock company and the traditional partnership. Business cooperation is established in partnership with farmers by dividing profits among 50% farmers, 45% companies, and 5% farmer-livestock groups. As for traditional partnerships, farmers and owners get 50% of the profits each. So, the two business models of beef cattle farming have advantages and disadvantages. The partnership system has a good impact on farmers in managing their business risks because farmers feel helped by these two partnerships in the research location, especially for farmers who still have minimal business capital in the Bali cattle business. Future research will be maximized if it increases the number of respondents and the size of the research area to detect agricultural partnership patterns in rural areas.

Abstract

Rural development plays an important role in improving a nation’s economic state. The agricultural sector is the key to rural economic development. One of the sub-sectors that need to be improved is the livestock sector, especially cattle farming. Barru Regency in South Sulawesi is the center for the development and purification of beef cattle nationally. However, rural cattle farming in Barru still faces several problems, resulting in unsustainability. Maiwa Breeding Center is a cattle breeding partnership program empowering smallholder farmers. MBC is considered an innovative solution that may improve farmers' well-being by applying business sustainability principles. This paper used an exploratory qualitative method to elaborate on implementing social entrepreneurship elements carried out by MBC’s Participatory Breeding Program. Informants were chosen by purposive sampling with the amount of 32. Data was derived from interviews, observations, and a literature review. The results showed that MBC contains all elements of social entrepreneurship. Social value was created to increase the farmer's income and capacity. Civil society (social capital) consists of long-standing trust between residents, well-coordinated networks, and norms in the form of partnership agreements. Social innovation consisted of sustainable accompaniment and a new profit-sharing and marketing system. Economic activity is expressed by MBC’s ecosystem, which supports farmers' business skills and financial capacity, and MBC runs product diversification. Abstract

This study evaluated cattle farmer’s satisfaction with government support programs and compared incomes between farmers using artificial insemination (AI) and natural breeding in Liliriaja District, South Sulawesi. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews with 150 purposively selected cattle farmers. The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) method assessed four main indicators: technical service quality, IB availability, income generation, and production yield. The results showed a moderate level of satisfaction (CSI = 73.78%), with the highest score for AI availability (WS = 1.089) due to its critical role in genetic improvement. However, the income support program had the lowest satisfaction (WS = 0.621), highlighting gaps in subsidy accessibility and market linkages. Economically, IB calves generated higher income (IDR 8,500,000/head) compared to natural mating (IDR 6,500,000/head), despite IB requiring higher feed costs. This study underscores the need for policy improvements, including reviving subsidy programs, technical training, and optimal implementation of IB to improve farmers' welfare and sustainable livestock productivity.

Abstract

The vulnerability of agrarian communities to shocks, seasonality, and long-term trends is a complex challenge that requires holistic analysis. This study aims to analyze the dynamic interaction between the three dimensions of vulnerability (shock-seasonality-trend) in agrarian communities in disaster-prone areas, using a holistic approach that fills the gap in previous literature, which tends to be partial. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews (25 key informants), focus group discussions (4 sessions), and secondary document analysis. The findings reveal that: (1) Shocks such as natural disasters and disease outbreaks weaken economic resilience due to infrastructure damage and health costs; (2) Seasonal pressures (pest attacks, price fluctuations) increase income instability, exacerbated by dependence on monoculture and limited market access; (3) Long-term trends (droughts, climate change) threaten agricultural sustainability through extreme weather and declining land productivity. Community adaptation strategies include crop diversification, the formation of savings and loan groups, and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, but these are hampered by a lack of institutional and technological support. This study highlights the need for integrated policies that combine ecosystem-based mitigation, strengthening early warning systems, and climate resilience training programs. The study's implications contribute to the literature on multidimensional vulnerability and provide practical recommendations for achieving sustainable community resilience.
