Abstract

Abstract

The nutritional problem such as stunting will impact human resource quality. Various factors, including family economic problems, contributed to it, such as in Lambung Bukit Village, Pauh District in Padang City. Apart from financial issues, the mother's lack of illiteracy on child health and nurture also contributes to nutritional problems in this area. Health services that involve physical examinations, child development, nutritional problems and the mother's understanding of family health need to be carried out. Nutrition education was given together with maternal education about parenting and maternal health by the community service team from the Nutrition Science Section and Anatomical Pathology Section, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University. Thirty mothers accompanied by their toddlers attended the activity. The service team provided five steps that participants must pass, including registration activities, anthropometric examinations, nutritional history, problem assessments, and nutritional consultations. It was hoped that both individual and group approaches would provide significant leverage for changing maternal behaviour. The mother benefited of the education provided. They requested that the team carry out this activity regularly at least once every three months, both to assess the growth and development of children and provide the knowledge about family health they need.

Abstract

Abstract

Inflammatory cytokines have a role in triggering cell signals in colorectal cancer. They increase signaling pathways into cells via the Janus kinase pathway (JAK) - signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) -suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCs) JAK-STAT. SOCs2 protein is a cytoplasmic protein that can inhibit activation of JAK-STAT pathway so that it prevents cascade of signals into the nucleus. This protein is thought to have decreased in adenocarcinoma colorectal. Objectives: To reveal the expression of SOCs2 protein in 37 paraffin block samples in Anatomy Pathology Department Medical Faculty Andalas University. Methods: Data were taken from medical records and histopathology was assessed by HE. SOCs2 expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry using SOCs2 polyclonal antibody (bs-1896R). Cytoplasmic expression was counted using Image J software. Results: The average of age was 56.57 years, 21 samples (55.8%) were male, depth of invasion was mostly in the tunica muscularis (T3), and 7 cases of malignancy (18.9%) were poorly differentiated. SOCs2 expression was  5 cases (13.5%).   Conclusion: There was SOCs2 expression in a small proportion of colorectal adenocarcinoma. Keywords:  SOCs2 protein, cytoplasmic inhibitor, JAK-STAT, cell signaling

Abstract

Ovarian cancer is known as a silent but deadly disease (silent killer) so it is not uncommon for sufferers to end in death. Radiotherapy for ovarian cancer is indicated as adjuvant therapy for advanced stages in an effort to extend survival rate. This review aims to determine the factors that influence survival rates, local control, and toxicity leves in patients receiving radiotherapy for ovarian cancer. This research is a narrative reviw using the PRISMA method. A literature search was conducted in three databases Pubmed, CENTRAL and Science Direct in the 2013-2023 period. The specified keywords are adapted to the terms Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and research questions using the PEO formula. Articles were selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. There are 9 selected primary articles and included in the narrative reflection. As many as 3 out of 9 studies stated first-line therapy in the form of total debulking surgery of lesions treated before RT as a factor that significantly influenced survival rates, 2 studies stated CA-125 levels before and after RT had a significant effect on survival rates, 2 studies explained that patients with platinum sensitivity and CCC histological subtypes had better survival rates, and 2 other literatures explained that cancer stage at diagnosis, cancer volume, and post-treatment or not after RT also significantly affected survival rates. Ovarian cancer patients who undergo radiotherapy have better survival rate than patients who do not receive radiotherapy with excellent local control and limited radiation related toxicity that is relatively well tolerated by patients

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Ameloblastoma is one of the most common benign odontogenic tumors, known for its slow growth but locally invasive behavior, often leading to extensive bone destruction if not diagnosed and treated early. Preoperative diagnosis of ameloblastoma can be made by Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) which is used as a guide for surgical planning. Diagnosis of ameloblastoma from cytology is challenging due to many pitfalls and differential diagnosis with other odontogenic lesions, but proper sampling and accurate diagnosis are very useful inpatient management Understanding its cytomorphological features can greatly assist in early differentiation from other maxillofacial neoplasms. This case report aims to describe the appearance of ameloblastoma on FNAB and reveal the contribution of the FNAB examination in the preoperative diagnosis of ameloblastoma so that adequate surgery can be carried out and the results are more optimal. Case report: We report a case of a tumor in the mandible of a 16-year-old man with a diagnosis of right mandibular tumor. The patient was sent for FNAB to the anatomical pathology laboratory. Preoperative cytology examination showed benign odontogenic lesions indicating ameloblastoma from FNAB. Furthermore, tumor resection was performed on the patient and histopathology tissue examination was performed with results consistent with ameloblastoma. Discussion: The FNAB procedure can be performed to establish for a pre-operative diagnosis of ameloblastoma. Cytological characteristics of ameloblastoma include basaloid cells or epithelial cells resembling ameloblasts with nuclei arranged palisade at the periphery and in the middle consisting of cells resembling stellate reticulum cells. False-negative results in the FNAB procedure can occur due to inadequate specimens or inaccurate sampling, mostly related to cystic tumors. To avoid this, FNAB tissue sampling can be performed at multiple sites and the deeper aspects of the tumor can assist in establishing an accurate preoperative diagnosis. Conclusion: The FNAB cytology is a reliable procedure for the pre-operative diagnosis of ameloblastoma. Pre-operative diagnosis of ameloblastoma can be used for planning therapy and early diagnosis of recurrence cases that can improve patient survival. The correlation between t
