Abstract

Sitophilus oryzae L. is a primary pest that causes damage to stored sorghum. The aim of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of some sorghum cultivars to S. oryzae infestations and the damage resulted during storage period. The research was carried out at Plant Pest and Disease Laboratory, Department Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University from February to June 2017. Nine cultivars of sorghum were screened for their susceptibility to S. oryzae attacks and the damage resulted. The Dobie sesceptibility indexwas used to classify the susceptibility of sorghum cultivars. Susceptibility experiment of several sorghum cultivars to S. oryzae was done by no choice assay. The results exhibited that sorghum cv. Suri 3, Suri 4, Kawali, and Numbu was categorized as moderate. Cv. Samurai 1 was included in moderate to susceptible, and cv. Super 1, Super 2, Samurai 2, and Pahat were categorized as susceptible to S. oryzae. The susceptibility of sorghum cultivars was determined by high number of F1 progeny, the high percentage of seed weight loss, damaged seeds, low median development time and low width of sorghum seeds.

Abstract

The research aims to study the effect of rice storage period against the growth of Sitophilus oryzae population and weight loss characteristics of rice.  The rice storage period consists of five levels: rice storage for 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 days.  The results showed that rice storage period affects the growth of S. oryzae population, weight loss characteristics of rice, and the percentage of rice powder. The 120-day storage period may increase S. oryzae populations, weight loss characteristics of rice, and the percentage of rice powder. The relationship between the storage period and the growth of S. oryzae population, weight loss characteristics of rice, and the percentage of rice powder increased linearly. There was a positive and very significant correlation between the rice storage period and the imago of S. oryzae population (r = 0.996**; P <0.01), weight loss percentage (r = 0.990**; P <0.01), perforated grain percentage (R = 0.994**; P <0.01), and the percentage of rice powder (r = 0.971**; P <0.01).

Abstract

The research was aimed to determine the susceptibility level rice from the local gogo rice of Subdistrict Tengah Ilir, District Tebo, and Province Jambi to an infestation of S. oryzae pest. The results showed that rice from varieties Tuo and Seribu Naik belong to a category moderate, while rice from varieties Tapang Bedaro and Cemplok belong to a category moderate-susceptible. Rice from varieties Kuku Balam, Rias Besar, Rias Kecil, Korok, Bedaro, Nartih, and Bungin are classified as susceptible to S. oryzae pest infestations.  The result of correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between susceptibility index with length rice (r= 0.906**, P<0.01) and shape rice (r= 0.771**, P <0.01) and there was a significant negative correlation with the wide of rice (r= -0.630*, P <0.05).  The susceptibility index was also affected by the number of F1 S. oryzae (r= 0.922**, P <0.01) and a negative correlation was significant with the median development time S. oryzae (r= -0.912**, P<0.01). Dimensions rice such as length rice (r= 0.898**, P<0.01), shape rice (r= 0.911**, P<0.01), and wide rice (r= -0.816 **, P<0.01) also affects the number of F1 S. oryzae of emerging. The dimension of rice is a source of susceptibility to rice against S. oryzae pests.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Susceptibility of various flour types to the investation of red flour beetle ( Tribolium castaneum Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) The research on the level of flour susceptibility against infestation of Tribolium castaneum has been conducted in laboratory under conditions of 28-30oC and relative humidity of 70-75%. Each type of flour was infested by 10 pairs of T. castaneum adult. Variables observation included the population growth, development period, weight losses percentage and susceptibility index. The results showed that degree of flour suitability against population growth namely wheat flour > corn flour > bran > mungbean flour > rice flour > potato flour > purple cultivar sweet potato flour > bread crumbs > glutinous rice flour > tapioca flour = sago flour. The longest median development time of T. castaneum was found in tapioca and sago flours of 86 days while the shortest was in wheat flour of 23.33 days. The highest weight loss percentage occurred on wheat and corn flours. The susceptibility level of flours to T. castaneum with resistant category included tapioca flour, corn flour, glutinous rice flour, purple cultivar sweet potato flour and bread crumbs. Mungbean flour was in moderate gategory while potato flour was in resistant to moderate category. Rice flour and bran were classified in susceptible category while corn and wheat flours were classified as highly susceptible. Keywords: Tribolium castaneum , Flour, Population growth, Development period, Susceptibility ABSTRAK Penelitian tingkat kerentanan jenis tepung terhadap infestasi Tribolium castaneum telah dilakukan di laboratorium pada kondisi suhu 28-30oC dan RH 70-75%. Setiap jenis tepung diinfestasi 10 pasang imago T . c a s t a n e u m . Variabel pengamatan meliputi pertumbuhan populasi, periode perkembangan, persentase susut berat dan indek kerentanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kesesuaian jenis tepung terhadap pertumbuhan populasi yaitu tepung gandum > tepung jagung > dedak > tepung kacang hijau > tepung beras > tepung kentang > tepung ubi jalar kultivar ungu > tepung panir > tepung ketan putih > tepung tapioka = tepung sagu. Median waktu perkembangan T. castaneum paling lama dijumpai pada tepung tapioka dan sagu yaitu 86 hari, sedangkan paling singkat pada tepung gandum yaitu 23,33 hari. Susut berat tepung paling banyak terjadi pada tepung gandum dan jagung. Tingkat kerentanan jenis tepung terhadap T. castaneum yaitu katagori resisten meliputi tepung tapioka, tepung sagu, tepung ketan putih, tepung ubi jalar kultivar ungu, dan tepung panir. Katagori moderat yaitu tepung kacang hijau, sedangkan tepung kentang tergolong resisten sampai moderat. Tepung beras dan dedak tergolong katagori rentan, sedangkan tepung jagung dan gandum tergolong katagori sangat rentan. Abstract

The Interaction Water Deficiency Level and Soybean Varieties [Glycine max (L) Merr] Capacity to the Plant Growth, Product and Prolin ContentABSTRACT. The research was conducted to study the interaction water deficiency level and soybean varieties to capacity of the plant growth, product and prolin content. The experiment as factorial experiment in a completely randomized design was applied. The first treatment factors were three level varieties soybean: Kipas putih, Wilis, and Singgalang. The second factor were four level water deficiency: no water deficiency along the growth period, water deficiency along early vegetative growth period, water deficiency along early active of vegetative growth period, water deficiency along flowering, and forming and seed filling period, and water deficiency along seed maturity period. The results showed the water deficiency along each growth period decreased the growth and production. In contrast the water deficiency increases the plant prolin content. The water deficiency along flowering, forming and seed filling period decreased number of pod of all variety. The variety Kipas Putih decreased about 42.49% were compared to the same criteria with no water deficiency in all growth period where water given in normal amount along the through growth period.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Hama pengisap polong adalah hama utama yang dapat menyebabkan kehilangan hasil tanaman kedelai baik secara kualitas maupun kuantitas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan efektivitas insektisida botani pada beberapa varietas kedelai terhadap serangan hama pengisap polong tanaman kedelai. Species hama pengisap polong yang dijumpai pada tanaman kedelai di lapangan adalah: Riptortus linearis dan Nezara viridula.  Ada tiga jenis N. viridula yang teridentifikasi yaitu N. viridula var. torguata, N. viridula var. aurantiaca, dan N. viridula var. smaragdula.  Insektisida botani yang digunakan pada penelitian ini memiliki kemampuan yang bervariasi dalam mengendalikan hama pengisap polong pada tanaman kedelai.  Ekstrak daun Tephrosia vogelii dan Azadirachta indica dapat menurunkan intensitas kerusakan yang lebih ringan dan berimplikasi pada meningkatnya komponen hasil dibandingkan dengan menggunakan ekstrak daun dan bunga Lantana camara.  Ada perbedaan resistensi varietas Kipas Merah dan Anjasmoro terhadap kerusakan oleh hama pengisap polong yang ditunjukkan dalam hal perbedaan intensitas kerusakan, jumlah trikoma, dan hasil.  Tingkat kerusakan polong antara varietas Kipas Merah dan Anjasmoro disebabkan karakteristik dalam hal jumlah trikoma, luas permukaan polong, and jumlah polong per cabang. Jumlah trikoma pada varitas Kipas Merah adalah 41,6 trichomes/4 mm2 dan lebih banyak dibandingkan varietas Anjasmoro yaitu sebesar 29,1 trichomes/4 mm2.  Efficacy Some Botanical Insecticides for Controlling Pest Pod Sucking in Soybean FieldsABSTRACT. Pod sucking bugs are the important pest that can causing yield loss soybean on quality and quantity. The objectives of the research were to determine effectiveness botanical insecticides and using varieties to pod sucking bugs along with presentation yield soybean.  Species pod sucking bugs that identify to soybean plants at location research it is Riptortus linearis and Nezara viridula.  There are three kinds of N. viridula that identify that is N. viridula var. torguata, N. viridula var. aurantiaca, and N. viridula var. smaragdula.  The botanical insecticide that used in research be possessed of ability have variation in controlling pod sucking soybean.  Extract leaf Tephrosia vogelii and Azadirachta indica causing intensity damage that lower more as well as increase component yield than with extract leaf and flower Lantana camara.  The are difference resistance varieties Kipas Merah and Anjasmoro to damage pod sucking bugs that showed by difference intensity damage, number of trichomes, and yield.  Level damage pod effect injury sucking to varieties Kipas Merah and Anjasmoro diverse follow characteristics morphological at pods varieties soybean as number of trichomes, wide surface pod, and number pod per nodes.  Number of trichomes at varieties Kipas Merah that is 41,6 trichomes/4 mm2 many more than with varieties Anjasmoro that is 29,1 trichomes/4 mm2.

Abstract

Toxicity of enthomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana to armyworm (Spodoptera litura) has been investigated in Pest Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam, Banda Aceh. This research was aimed at determining lethal concentration (LC50) and lethal time (LT50) of B. bassiana suspensions against third instar larvae of armyworm. The fungi concentration used was in the range 0-6 % (w/v) or equal to 9,33 x 106 – 45,83 x 106 conidia/ml. The fungi suspension was applied to the larvae by dissolving the larvae into the suspension for 10 seconds. The number of the larvae died and the time required to kill the larvae were recorded everyday starting one day after application (DAA) until pupation. The relation between each observation to the fungi concentration was analyzed using probit analysis. The result showed that B. bassiana suspension caused the death of the larvae beginning 4 DAA with maximum eath on 10 DAA. The death of the larvae caused by the growth and the development of the fungi inside the larvae. The LC50 of the fungi suspension against the larvae was 3,57 % while the LT50 at 4, 5, and 6 % fungi concentration were 9,88; 8,13; and 6,8 days respectively.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mempelajari pertumbuhan populasi S. oryzae dan karakteristik kehilangan bobot pada jenis beras dari berbagai varietas padi yang berbeda selama masa penyimpanan.  Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Agroekoteknologi Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Malikussaleh. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei sampai September 2014. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan jenis beras dari berbagai varietas padi yang terdiri dari empat taraf yaitu beras dari varietas Inpari Sidenuk, Mekongga, Ciherang, dan IR 64.  Setiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak lima kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan jenis beras dari berbagai varietas padi mempengaruhi pertumbuhan populasi S. oryzae, perubahan kadar air, dan karakteristik kehilangan bobot beras selama penyimpanan.  Pertumbuhan dan laju pertumbuhan populasi paling tinggi dijumpai pada beras dari varietas Inpari Sidenuk.  Terdapat korelasi positif dan sangat nyata antara populasi S. oryzae dengan perubahan kadar air (r = 0,993; p 0,01), persentase kehilangan bobot (r = 0,996; p 0,01), persentase beras berlubang (r = 0,996; p 0,01), serta korelasi positif dan nyata antara perubahan kadar air dengan persentase kehilangan bobot (r = 0,980; p 0,05) dan persentase beras berlubang (r = 0,989; p 0,05). Persentase kehilangan bobot beras dipengaruhi oleh persentase beras berlubang akibat serangan hama S. oryzae (r = 0,997; p 0,01).  Population Growth of Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and Characteristics Weight Loss on RiceThe research aims to study the population growth of S. oryzae and characteristics weight loss on different types of rice from a variety of different varieties paddy during storage. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Malikussaleh. The research was conducted since month May until September 2014. The study used completely randomized design (CRD) with treatment the type of rice of different varieties which consists of four levels is rice from the varieties Inpari Sidenuk, Mekongga, Ciherang, and IR 64. Each treatment was repeated five times. The results showed that different types of rice from rice varieties affect population growth S. oryzae, changes moisture content, and weight loss characteristics of rice during storage. Growth and rate of population growth the highest found on rice varieties Inpari Sidenuk. There are correlation positive and highly significant  between the population of S. oryzae with changes in moisture content (r = 0.993; p 0.01), the percentage of weight loss (r = 0.996; p 0.01), the percentage of seed damaged (r = 0.996; p 0.01), as well as positive correlation and significant between changes in the water content by percentage of weight loss (r = 0.980; p 0.05) and the percentage of seed damaged (r = 0.989; p 0.05). The percentage weight loss affected by the percentage of grain attack due to pests S. oryzae (r = 0.997; p 0.01).

Abstract

Abstrak, Penelitian bertujuan untuk mempelajari pemberian pupuk nitrogen terhadap hama penggerek batang dan pelipat daun padi. Penelitian dilakukan di Kecamatan Syamtalira Aron Kabupaten Aceh Utara dari bulan Nopember 2013 sampai April 2014. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan perlakuan dosis nitrogen yaitu tanpa pemupukan, 45 kg N/ha, 67,5 kg N/ha, 90 kg N/ha, 112,5 kg N/ha, dan 135 kg N/ha. Setiap perlakuan dosis nitrogen diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Peubah yang diamati adalah komponen intensitas serangan penyakit blas daun dan komponen hasil.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemupukan nitrogen dari dosis 45 kg N/ha sampai 135 kg N/ha dapat meningkatkan serangan penyakit blas daun dan tidak menurunkan komponen hasil.  Pemupukan nitrogen dengan dari 112,5 kg N/ha sampai 135 kg N/ha dapat menurunkan jumlah gabah per malai, bobot gabah per malai, persentase gabah isi per malai, bobot gabah kering panen, bobot gabah kering giling, dan bobot gabah 1000 butir.  Terdapat korelasi positif dan sangat nyata antara intensitas serangan penyakit blas daun dengan jumlah anakan maksimum, korelasi positif dan tidak nyata antara intensitas serangan penyakit blas daun dengan komponen hasil, dan korelasi positif dan sangat nyata antar komponen hasil padi. Impact of Nitrogen Fertilization on Blast Leaf Disease and Components Yield Rice  Abstract, The research aims to study the applications of nitrogen fertilizer on pests stem borers and leaffolders rice. The study was conducted in the subdistrict Syamtalira Aron district North Aceh from November 2013 until April 2014. The research using randomized block design (RBD) with the nitrogen dose treatment is without fertilizer, 45 kg N/ha, 67.5 kg N/ha, 90 kg N/ha, 112.5 kg N/ha, and 135 kg N/ha. Each treatment was repeated doses of nitrogen three times. Variables measured is the component intensity of rice blast leaf disease and components yield such as grain dry weight harvest, dry milled grain weight, and weight of 1000 seeds. The results showed that fertilization nitrogen from dose 45 kg of N/ha to 135 kg N/ha can increase the intensity attacks of rice blast leaf disease and not decrease the yield components.  The granting of nitrogen with 112.5 kg N/ha to 135 kg N/ha can reduce the weight of dry grain harvest, dry milled grain weight, and grain weight of 1000 seeds. There were positive correlation (p0.01) between intensity of rice blast leaf disease with the maximum number of tillers, positive correlation (p0.01) between intensity of rice blast leaf disease with yield components, and positive correlation (p0.01) between the yield components rice.

Abstract

Toxicity n-hexane leaf extract Lantana camara and its active fractions were evaluated for their insecticidal activit  ies against Plutella xylostella larvae. The method included sample extraction, fractionation, and toxicity examination of leaf extract L. camara and its active fractions against P. xylostella larvae.  The extracts were applied by residue method.  Fractionation of active compounds from extract n-hexane was conducted by a vacuum liquid chromatography by using a stationary phase of silicate gel GF254­ and mobile phase of n-hexane, etil acetate, and methanol which produced five  fractions, that is fractions A, B, C, D, and E.  Leaf extract of  L. camara and its fractions possessed an insecticidal activity  causing mortality to P. xylostella larvae. The results showed that LC50 of crude extract at 3 and 4 day after applications was 0,936 and 0,651%, while LC50 of fractions A = 0,386 and 0,178%; fractions C = 0,327 and 0,132; fractions D = 0,617 and 0,318%; fractions E = 0,622 and 0,244%.
