Abstract

Political socialization is the process of instilling political values in individuals and groups, which will later be useful and can form a culture in society. The role of political socialization is quite important in determining the political choices of an individual or group, especially when approaching the general election. In the 2024 general election, the most votes were obtained from the younger generation. When viewed from its territory, Java Islandis the island with the largest DPT in Indonesia among the total national voters in 38 provinces. The purpose of this study is to see how much influence political socialization has on the political participation of new voters on Java Island ahead of the 2024 general election. This study uses social learning theory to determine the effect of political socialization on political participation. The approach to this research is quantitative, with a survey method. The data collection technique was carried out by distributing a Likert scale questionnaire (5 points) to new voters domiciled in Java Island, Indonesia, with a non probability sampling type of convenience sampling technique and obtaining a sample size of 395. The questionnaire was distributed via social media to collect primary data. Data analysis was car ried out by processing and grouping the data that had been collected from respondents. In the dataanalysis, validity, reliability, and regression tests were also carried out to determine the feasibility of the instrument, the consistency of measurement results, and the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable. The results of the study showed that there was an influence between political socializationand the participation of new voters on Java Island ahead of the 2024 election.

Abstract

Radya Pustaka Museum is a museum that represents Javanese culture. The collections in the museum are proof of the indigenous knowledge of the people in making cultural products. This research aims to identify Javanese indigenous knowledge based on the Radya Pustaka Museum collections. Therefore, qualitative research was used with a museum study approach to identify types of indigenous knowledge based on various museum collections. The results of the research show that indigenous knowledge represented in the collection at the Radya Pustaka Museum is how to make Javanese men's headgear (blangkon), turn tree bark into paper (daluang), use palm leaves (lontar) as a writing medium, cast copper for writing media, turn metal into various weapons, making puppets (from animal skin and wood), creating traditional orchestral musical instruments (gamelan), mastering Javanese astrology (pawukon), turning a hill into a burial complex, assembling a traditional cruise ship, understanding the health benefits from coconut water, and making natural paint, natural dyes, and glue. This research found that the indigenous knowledge behind gamelan is not only about how to make musical instruments and how to create notes, but there is also knowledge about mental health. Music produced from gamelan can calm the mind, facilitate concentration, and increase enthusiasm for living life. Another finding is that there is ethnomathematics implicit in the Imogiri burial complex. The results of this research can be a reference source for further research on local knowledge management in information institutions, especially museums, so that employees can service the knowledge behind the collections.

Abstract

Kasunanan Surakarta is one of the kingdoms in Java that has inherited various cultural products. The proof is the collection stored in the Suaka Budaya Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta Museum. These cultural product objects are proof of the existence of indigenous Javanese ancestral knowledge. Therefore, this research aims to identify local knowledge based on museum collections. The results of this research show that Javanese people have the knowledge to weave bamboo into geometrically shaped containers and the health benefits of traditional cooking utensils. They can also make traditional machines (lesung, lumpang, and alu) for making flour, breaking seed shells, and grinding spices. Other skills include making traditional communication tools (lumpang, gamelan, and bells), traditional games (to train children in learning to master emotional intelligence, strategies for getting things and investing), traditional sports (for learning about war and choosing soldiers), and blacksmith (keris and spear). They are also experts in making fermented foods, potions for skin and hair beauty (ratus), and oral health (kinang). They also master the field of performing arts with the musical instruments rebab, dance and wayang (suket and klithik). The conclusion is that the Javanese people have local knowledge in the fields of handicrafts, post-harvest agricultural equipment, communication tools, games, sports, blacksmithing, fermented foods, beauty, dental and oral health, and performing arts.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is a country that is highly susceptible to volcanic disasters. One potential measure the community can take is to utilize social media platforms to participate in disaster mitigation efforts. The hashtag #Semeru exemplifies the utilization of social media in disseminating information regarding volcanic disasters. It became a trending topic on Twitter regarding the information on the eruption of Mount Semeru at the end of 2021. Purpose: The primary objective of this research is to examine the operational mechanisms of the Mount Semeru eruption early warning system on Twitter. Furthermore, the objective is to determine the key actors responsible for disseminating early warning information on Twitter. Methods: This study employed the Social Network Analysis (SNA) method. Results: The findings show that the network distribution pattern of the Semeru eruption early warning system has a radial communication network pattern with indicators of low network density levels. The actors @fiersabesari, @bnonews, @asumsico, @disclose.tv, @jawafess, and @insiderpaper have a proximity centrality value of 0 due to their lack of acquaintance. On the other hand, two actors possess a closeness centrality value: @melodiysore with a value of 0.8 and @daryonoBMKG with a value of 0.2. This study highlighted that the actors involved in disaster management and mitigation had a level of popularity that ranked outside the top 10. Conclusions: The information network system for the early warning of the Mount Semeru eruption on Twitter forms a network distribution with a radial communication pattern that is concentrated at one point and acts as a key actor. Eight key actors play a role in disseminating early warning messages, specifically @fiersabesari, @daryonoBMKG, @bnonews, @asumsico, @disclose.tv, @theinsiderpaper, @melodiysore, and @jawafess (community). Implications: This study demonstrates the benefits of using Twitter as a timely indicator for disasters, notably the eruption of Mount Semeru. It can effectively engage the community and government in disseminating early-warning information about volcanic eruptions.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of the media in shaping public opinion ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, focusing on the Maghrib adhan broadcast featuring Ganjar Pranowo on MNC Group television station in September 2023. This phenomenon raises polemics regarding media independence, given that MNC Group is owned by Hary Tanoesoedibjo, chairman of the Perindo Party who supports Ganjar as a presidential candidate. The broadcast is considered an attempt at identity politics to build a politician's image. This research uses a critical paradigm with a qualitative descriptive approach, combining Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory and Roland Barthes' semiotics to analyze the political symbols in the broadcast. Data collection was done through in-depth interviews, observation, and literature study. The results show that political shows are not taken for granted by the audience, but through a decoding process that is influenced by their social and cultural background. The media, in this case RCTI, utilizes symbols and narratives to shape the image of politicians, although the meaning received by the audience varies, depending on their decoding position. This finding confirms the role of the media as a tool of domination in shaping public opinion and creating political hegemony, which risks reducing the objectivity and independence of the media in a democracy.

Abstract

The digital transformation has reshaped the media industry, moving from traditional models to technology-driven approaches such as content personalization and direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming. In journalism research, Discourse Network Analysis (DNA) has emerged as a novel method to map relationships among actors, discourses, and narratives across platforms. By integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches, DNA offers comprehensive insights into media discourse dynamics. In Indonesia, its application remains limited, addressing issues like gig economy policies, sexual violence, and peatland restoration. Supported by frameworks such as the Advocacy Coalition Framework and Collaborative Governance Theory, DNA enables the analysis of conflicts of interest, coalitions, and ideological shifts. However, Indonesian research often emphasizes quantitative approaches, overlooking qualitative insights essential for contextualizing discourse. Unlike linear-focused methods such as content or critical discourse analysis, DNA excels in the significant data era by processing large-scale social media content, integrating textual and relational data, and visualizing complex communication networks. This makes it particularly valuable for understanding how information flows and evolves, offering strategic insights into shifting communication patterns, media consumption behaviors, and audience engagement in the digital age.

Abstract

Demonstrations in Indonesia frequently reflect students’ social and political actions, particularly in criticizing government policies. In exploring the phenomenon of “Demo Indonesia Gelap,” this study uncovered patterns of public discourse through the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) and Habermas’ concept of the public sphere. It analyzed how CNN Indonesia framed the demonstration and assessed whether its coverage adhered to principles of independent journalism. Using discourse network analysis, this research identified the roles played by relevant actors, including students, academics, and media outlets, in shaping public opinion. Findings indicate that students remain central in mobilizing critical discourse against government policies, while the media significantly influences the narratives surrounding such demonstrations. Although CNN Indonesia effectively disseminated information, questions emerged regarding its neutrality. This study highlights the increasing influence of media and communication technologies on social movements in the digital era. Moreover, the primary issue underlying the demonstrations is government policy amid a period of political transition. The research suggests the importance of addressing how media framing shapes public perception and maintaining the public sphere as a democratic space for open discourse, free from intervention by particular political interests.
