Abstract

One of the demands of the Merdeka curriculum is to develop literacy and numeracy, including science literacy. Science literacy can be developed through problem-based learning, rich in contextual elements. This community service aimed to impart the principles of science literacy in designing and implementing contextual chemistry learning. The method used in writing this article was the diffusion of science and technology by describing the results of the product in the form of student worksheets for the target group and limited product trials when implemented in schools, as well as advocacy in the form of mentoring during implementation and journal article writing. This community service resulted in (1) three types of student worksheets entitled “Global Warming”, “Biodiesel Synthesis”, and “Nanoparticle and Nanotechnology” that accommodate problem-based learning; (2) the aspects of science literacy, including conceptual, procedural, and epistemic knowledge, can be well followed by all students using the developed worksheets; and (3) two research articles for publication in national journals.

Abstract

Investigating scientific identity in teacher education is essential, as teachers play a pivotal role in advancing education and facilitating the learning process. Their impact is critical to student success, particularly within structured school environments. This bibliometric study aims to analyze the scientific identity in teacher education over the past two decades. Utilizing VOSviewer, the authors mapped 541 relevant articles (7,880 citations) indexed in Scopus, published between 2004 and 2024. Qualitative analysis methods revealed an overall increase in publications, though a decline was observed from 2020 to 2024. This study highlights the significance of scientific identity in teacher education, emphasizing its role in shaping attitudes, enhancing science literacy, and facilitating effective learning. The findings suggest that future research should integrate scientific identity into curricula to address global sustainability challenges. The paradigm shift in science education during the 2010s, which emphasized broader scientific knowledge and skills, necessitates that teachers develop a clear and stable scientific identity in teaching science.

Abstract

Ionic liquids, known for their environmental friendliness and potential to enhance bamboo's mechanical properties, align with several SDGs, including No Poverty, Quality Education, and Climate Action. This study explores the potential of ionic liquids in improving bamboo's mechanical properties and integrating Environmental Sustainability and Development (ESD) into chemistry education. Data from 36 chemistry students revealed a lack of understanding among prospective teachers about ESD and its connection to ionic liquids and chemistry concepts. However, students recognized the sustainability potential of ionic liquids and agreed on incorporating these contexts into their learning. These findings highlight the need to further integrate ESD into chemistry education, emphasizing ionic liquids and their role in sustainable practices like bamboo processing.

Abstract

In recent years, the urgent need to address environmental problems has driven green chemistry in various disciplines, focusing on designing chemical products and processes that minimize hazardous materials. This research conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) to evaluate the application of green chemistry in higher education chemistry lab practices and its impact on students' conceptual understanding, practical skills, and environmental awareness. Using the PRISMA method, 46 articles were analyzed from the Scopus and ScienceDirect databases extracted from a total of 537 published between 2015 and 2024. The findings show that applying green chemistry in chemistry laboratory learning can improve students' conceptual understanding, practical skills, and environmental awareness while encouraging environmentally friendly synthesis methods. However, challenges such as limited resources and the need for additional training for lecturers still exist. Institutional support and professional development are needed to maximize implementation. In conclusion, green chemistry has great potential to create a more environmentally responsible generation of chemists, with recommendations for comprehensive integration into chemistry curricula and increased support for educators to address implementation challenges. This study provides a basis for expanding the application of green chemistry in chemistry education and preparing students to face future sustainability challenges.

Abstract

This study was aimed to examine the influence of clarity of waiting time information and the comfort of waiting room towardssatisfaction through waiting time perception of drug services. Chosen observational analytical study by cross-sectional study was used as methods in this study. Sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. 120 respondents were chosen as study sample among all of the outpatients out of pocket which waiting for drug services on March - April 2017. Path analysis was used as data analysis method. Study result showed that clarity of waiting time information and the comfort of waiting room had a positive and significant influence on waiting time perception and satisfaction awaiting drug services. As of intervening variable, waiting time perception was contributed increasing influence clarity of waiting time information and the comfort of waiting room towardssatisfaction with drug services. The most predominant variable in constructing satisfaction with drug servicesthrough waiting time perception was the comfort of the waiting room.
