Abstract

One of the poverty alleviation programs mostly carried out by zakat institutions is the mustahiq utilization program through stockbreeding empowerment. Geographical conditions, demographics, and the enormous potential for qurban’s meat are a few factors that support zakat-based stockbreeding programs. This study aims to determine whether the stockbreeding programs run by the zakat institution positively impact mustahik. The impact measurement was carried out using mixed methods, namely the BAZNAS Welfare Index (BWI) and the poverty indicator approach to determine the number of mustahik farmers lifted out of poverty. The results show that in 2021 the BWI value of the BAZNAS stockbreeding program is classified under the Good category (0.78) and managed to transform 81% of mustahiq into muzaki. Furthermore, this study will be the first to explain the business process of stockbreeding programs by using a modification of the Business Model Canvas, the Zakat Utilization Model Canvas (ZUMC). We recommend ZUMC to be implemented by zakat institutions to help them design stockbreeding programs to improve the quality of life of mustahiq.

Abstract

Livestock waste is the remaining waste from livestock business activities, such as livestock raising businesses, slaughterhouses, processing of livestock products, etc. Livestock waste generally includes all manure produced from livestock business activities, whether in the form of solid waste such as feces, liquid waste in the form of urine, gas waste in the form of CH4 methane gas, leftover feed, biogas, and organic waste. The total waste produced by livestock depends on the livestock species, the size of the livestock business, the type of business and the floor of the pen. This research aims to utilize livestock waste as raw material for making manure, which is a useful solution to support the agricultural and plantation sectors and minimize environmental pollution. It is hoped that fertilization can play a dual role, apart from providing nutrients, the added fertilizer can also reduce the toxicity of pollutants (Sudirja et al. 2023). This testing stage includes the process of making fertilizer and testing the fertilizer. In the process of making fertilizer using solid waste cow and goat manure taken from the livestock pens of the IPB University Vocational School.  Then, fertilizer testing was carried out by looking at the growth of red chili plants as a parameter for the success of the fertilizer. Based on the experiments that had been carried out, each replication produced mature manure with the characteristic black color, loose texture, odorless and at room temperature. Providing a mixture of cow and goat fertilizer to chili plants resulted in varying growth rate values from the beginning of the fertilizer test, namely week zero, to the end of the test in the third week. This is due to differences in the adaptability of plants to environmental conditions.

Abstract

Islam upholds the principle of equality for all individuals, regardless of their disability status. The sole distinction between people lies in their level of piety. However, in reality, people with disabilities (PWD) continue to face various forms of discrimination, ranging from education and employment to societal stigma, hindering their ability to improve their quality of life. Furthermore, the exclusion of PWD from the economy can result in a national GDP loss of up to 7% per year. Zakat optimization presents a potential solution to enhance the lives of PWD. In this context, PWD can be classified under the asnaf of fakir (the poor) and/or miskin (the destitute). Their categorization as fakir stems from their limitations in meeting basic needs, while their classification as miskin is supported by data and research indicating a strong correlation between disability and poverty. Unfortunately, the attention given to PWD within the zakat system remains relatively low. Therefore, employing a qualitative research methodology, this paper delves into the distribution of zakat in the disability sector and proposes an integrated distribution model for PWD. This model entails grouping PWD based on their age and work capabilities before providing appropriate assistance. Additionally, utilizing the Zakat Utilization Model Canvas (ZUMC), this paper explores the ideal planning framework for disability programs that can be implemented by zakat institutions. ZUMC adopts a holistic approach, considering not only the commercial aspects of programs but also the empowerment of mustahik (zakat recipients) in each element. This paper aims to contribute to the still-limited research on zakat and disability in Indonesia.

Abstract

Islamic banking plays a crucial role in Indonesia's economy and faces risks that impact the sustainability of bank performance as a mediator in the financial system. For the sake of the bank's sustainability, it is necessary to measure efficiency and control risk, measuring the level of efficiency is better than measuring profitability because it is measured by various outputs and inputs, so it does not only focus on company profits. This research aims to investigate the influence of NPF, FDR, BOPO, and CAR on the efficiency of Islamic commercial banks. The research employs quantitative techniques and is based on data obtained from the annual reports of Islamic commercial banks released by the OJK from 2019 to 2023. With the first test using DEAP (VRS) to assess the efficiency level of Islamic commercial banks, then measuring between variables using Eviews 12 (tobit regression). The sampling technique with purposive sampling (sample of 11 banks from 13 population banks). The results indicate that FDR positively impacts the efficiency of Islamic commercial banks, while CAR has a negative impact. However, NPF and BOPO calculations do not influence the efficiency of Islamic commercial banks. In summary, FDR positively affects efficiency, while CAR negatively impacts it in Islamic commercial banks, with NPF and BOPO having no effect.
