Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) is very important to be studied by nursing students considering the industial demands are very high on the importance of the health of workers in the future. The problem is they don't get proportional insights to OHN. This needs evidence of its effect on nurses’ work productivity. Objective: The objective is to compare the level of work productivity between nurses who have the OHN insight with those without it, working in the industrial setting. Method: The method is Comparative Study with Cross Sectional Study Design with nursing students, nurses and Indonesian nurses working abroad as the populations. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling with a total sample of 130 respondents. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire and Likert Scale, compiled based on the Health Belief Model Theory (HBM). The data were analyzed by the Paired Sample T-test to see the differences between nurses who had received OHN subject and those who had never. Result: The results show significant differences on level of understanding between nurses who have received subject material about OHN with those who have never had it, with a p-value of 0,000. Discussion: Significant productivity differences between nurses who have received lecture material about OHN and those who did not, which can be used as criticism or input for nursing education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The demand for Indonesian nurses to work abroad has increased over the last five years. The challenge is that the orientation of the nursing education curriculum in Indonesia is still local, not yet leading to international standards. As a result, only a small number of nurses passed the selection, the process is longer, and the recruitment cost is higher. Therefore, this review aims to identify the global need for Indonesian nurses and provide an overview of the importance of structured planning in terms of nursing education curriculum related to job opportunities overseas. The study grouped, allocated, organized, and used relevant library variations. Researchers conducted a literature study regarding the demand for Indonesian nurses, the development of education and curriculum from several sources such as the Ministry of Health, the Indonesian Migrant Workers and Protection Agency (BP2MI), the Ministry of Higher Education, World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the latest journals, from 2016 to 2021. The data were reviewed, analyzed and alternative solutions were identified. The analytical review shows the demands on Indonesian nurses keep on growing. The magnitude of this demand is an opportunity as well as challenges that need to be anticipated earlier in terms of the nursing education curriculum and the Government policymakers. Keywords: nursing education; global need of nursing; clinical practice; health policy maker

Abstract

Introduction: More than 25% of East Java regencies and cities had stunting prevalence rates higher than the national figure. The involvement of the youths to reduce stunting is important in helping to overcome this national health problem. This study aimed to identify areas in East Java that have stunting prevalence rates above the national rate and assisted in the preparation of a program called the Youth Empowerment for Stunting Reduction Program (YESREP).Methods: This descriptive study used document review by PRISMA stages. At the initial stage, 453 documents were filtered from Google Scholar (n=29), Pubmed (n=12), SagePub (n=20), Semantic Scholar (n=6), others (n =136), while the remaining (n=260) were discarded. The search keywords were ’youth empowerment’, ‘stunting’, and ‘Covid-19’. The inclusion criteria were stunting cases, youth empowerment, and the Covid-19 pandemic. The documents screened were journals with quantitative, qualitative, document review methods, year of publication:2017-2022, focusing on youth empowerment and stunting, and in English or Indonesian languages. The tool used for the final document selection used PICOT model. Results: Youth empowerment was one of the effective methods in reducing the stunting prevalence. However, training programs, orientation, continuity, guidance, and follow-up are needed. The challenges were in funds, time, and readiness of the human resources involved in the implementation of YESREP.Conclusion: YESREP as a concept, was effective in reducing stunting prevalence, but still have some limitations. Abstract

Introduction: A thyroid cancer worker after undergoing ablation procedure requires specific recommendation when return to work. This study aims to determine a framework of the fitness to work (FTW) status from the occupational health nursing viewpoint. The implication is to help answer the question whether the worker is fit to work as a cancer survivor. Methods: This study used a Case Study method with descriptive design. The sample was a therapist associate whose scope of work was office-based. The method applied the Test Blueprint of case management assessment by the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (ABOHN) standard combined with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) after the ablation procedure as the instrument. We analyzed the case with The Fit to Work (FTW) Model of Hybrid Model. Results: FTW  assessment showed vital signs within normal limits. Immunological examination found abnormalities. The left and right thyroid lobes were not visualized and there was no mass in the surgical bed. The client was advised for specialist follow up after 6 months. After the ablation procedure, the employee had a verbal communication disorder. The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) recorded point 5 hoarseness with decreased tone quantity was about 90%. Based on the medical report and his specialist’s advice, 6 months after ablation the employee’s medical condition showed improvement. Conclusion: With the At-Will Model of Hybrid as the framework to determine the fitness status, we recommended to declare him fit with restrictions and advised for regular fitness status update.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 outbreak, many ex-migrant nurses who had resigned and were living in Indonesia were unable to return to work. The objective of this study is to develop strategies for empowering ex-migrant nurses in the sustainable healthcare sector following the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The Reflective Cycle Gibbs (RCB) model was employed during the research, which comprised six stages that began with a document review and PRISMA analysis. The PRISMA Analysis utilized Google search engines to filter documents from Google Scholar, Research Gate, and other sources. The RCB model examined 10 eligible journals and discovered records of nurses who returned to their home country due to inadequate pay, career development, workforce protection policy, and empowerment facilities. We concluded 4 problems encountered by returnee nurses i.e. lack of protection policy, poor wages, less career development, and lack of empowerment facilities.

Abstract

In practice the Occupational Health Nurses (OHN) in Indonesia do not have sufficient career objectives regardless of the availability of 30.381 medium-large industries. These opportunities and challenges prove that from the OHN employment viewpoint, the prospects for the OHN professionals are very promising. In terms of education where OH nursing specialization in Indonesia is still very limited, the career of the OHN corporate nursing profession needs to be analyzed and explored. This review aims to enhance the understanding of OH nurses' careers based on theoretical perspectives in an increasingly dynamic educational environment, provides comprehensive understanding of the work for OHN nurses and offers future research direction. The method used was Assessment Model of Meleis to review selected documents by implementing three types of career path, i.e. Career Framework, Change Model and Nursing Career Framework. There were 71 documents were reviewed include of the nursing education system by the Ministry of Health, the National Education System, Ministry of Higher Education (Ristekdikti), Development and Empowerment of Healthcare Human Resources (BPPSDM), AAOHN, OHN Career Guide Canada and several journals of the last five years, from 2016 to 2020. Meleis’ Model provides a deeper understanding of the OHN career. Meanwhile, reviewing career framework theories also contribute to the career path of OH Nurses, both in practice, research, education and administration in various dimensions of nursing care in the industrial settings.
