Abstract

Seawater intrusion in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency, can be identified through groundwater salinity testing. This study aims to evaluate changes in groundwater salinity values as an indicator of seawater intrusion in the region. The test was conducted by taking well water samples and analyzing them at the Lombok Island Health Laboratory. The results showed that the groundwater salinity value before the water withdrawal project by PT Berkat Air Laut in 2012 was 5.00‰. During the groundwater withdrawal project period (2013-2022), the salinity value increased to 5.71‰, and post-project, the salinity value reached 6.07‰. These findings indicate that groundwater in Gili Trawangan was classified as brackish water from the start, with increasing salinity values indicating seawater intrusion. However, this increase is still in the low category, at 0.71‰ during the project and 0.36‰ post-project, so it is not classified as significant water pollution.

Abstract

The Forest Area with Special Educational Purposes (KHDTK) at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram, covering 93.55 hectares, has undergone enrichment with eucalyptus and agarwood plants since 2019. In 2024, further enrichment is planned with durian, avocado, jackfruit, and longan. However, concerns have arisen regarding the suitability of the KHDTK area for durian cultivation, necessitating a land suitability evaluation. This study aims to determine the suitability classes, limiting factors, and management recommendations for durian and other selected plants. Using a rigid grid method, a soil survey and evaluation were conducted, assessing 14 parameters related to soil, climate, and land. The findings indicate that the land suitability for durian falls into class S3, with limiting factors including coarse soil texture, low levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, insufficient rainfall, and a slope of 16-30%. Recommended management strategies include the application of organic and NPK fertilizers, installation of pipe irrigation, and contour-aligned planting. Enrichment with durian in the KHDTK area is suggested to be developed. This study contributes to sustainable land management by providing scientific data for durian cultivation in KHDTK areas. In addition, the results can support the development of conservation-based agroforestry and agritourism.

ABSTRACT One of the plantations developed in South Sulawesi is the rubber plantation of PT LONSUM in Bulukumba Regency, covering an area of 5,782 ha. This rubber plantation company, apart from being a wood sap producer, also supplies woods as raw material for the timber industry as cost-construction wood and pulpwood. The high waste of rubber logging that is wasted is an obstacle to increasing land productivity. The development of biopesticide technology is a solution that can be developed to overcome community problems. This community service aimed to empowering forest farming communities, also to increase community knowledge and expertise in controlling pests and diseases of rubber wood through the development of biopesticides (wood vinegar) from rubber plantation wastes. The results of this activity indicate the existence of simple technology transfer to the community in making wood vinegar (biopesticide) and the emergence of public understanding and awareness of the importance of wood waste management. Keywords: Waste, rubber vinegar, forest farmers.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in the need for a scientific-based solution in understanding the pattern of runoff and flood inundation to support effective mitigation planning. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the Tallo River runoff before and after infrastructure development; identify the main factors causing flood inundation in the affected area and develop flood mitigation strategies based on hydrological and hydraulic modeling. The methods used include data collection using 15 years of rainfall data (2010–2024), topographic maps (DEM), and land use information; hydrological analysis by calculating the design flood discharge using the Rational and Nakayasu methods; hydraulic modeling with HEC-RAS 2D flood inundation simulation to understand the pattern of inundation distribution due to increasing runoff discharge; evaluation of the impact of development by comparing the runoff discharge before and after development and identifying its contribution to flood risk and mitigation strategies by compiling technical recommendations such as raising the embankment, improving drainage, and increasing the elevation of the affected area. The results of the study indicate that flooding in the Tallo River is mainly caused by the river's inability to accommodate the runoff discharge and the backwater effect of the urban drainage system. The increase in discharge due to the construction of a shopping center was recorded as very small (0.84 m³/second) and was not significant to the occurrence of flooding. The proposed mitigation strategies include building a 2.5-meter high embankment, increasing drainage capacity, and regulating the elevation of the affected area.
