Abstract

Abstract. Environmental education ( PLH) is a learning material that must be studied by all students of various levels of school, particulary for those at the elemen-tary school students. Cutrrently, in some cities in Indonesia, the PLH is a field of incor-porated study in the local content curriculum, while in some cities the PLH is an inte-grated material with other subjects. In delivering the message, the PLH has to be pro-vided in an interesting format. This is a big challenge for those who teach of PLH. This Paper is using the PBL learning method, where students are presented with various problems, discussion, and find solution. This research examines PBL learning method with learning form using several media. This learning test was conducted in 2 big cit-ies: Balikpapan and Bandung. Trial of multimedia usage on learning PLH, teacher give one problem, then student invited to know directly about the problem, then discus-sion and conclusion. At the end of learning activities, students were given a question-naire and interview. The final result shows that the students can understand the materi-al conveyed with maximum on learning PLH.Abstrak. pendidikan lingkungan hidup merupakan materi pembelajaran yang wajib di pelajari oleh seluruh siswa berbagai tingkatan sekolah.

Abstract

Public awareness of waste management and processing in Indonesia is still very low. Likewise, with students,  warnings are still needed in keeping the environment clean. Environmental education (EE) in schools has started to be widely applied in many schools. Ideally, student awareness in keeping the environment, especially in managing waste, becomes better wherever they are. This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of waste management and processing as one of the implementations of environmental management. It is hoped that Environmental Education can have an impact on students’ perception in managing their daily environment. It also explores students’ pereptions at elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels about: (1) environmental education in a school; (2) waste management and processing as part of environmental education; and (3) waste management and processing by local government. Data collection was carried out randomly to several students taking part in Car Free Day (CFD) activity involving 42 student respondents. and the data was processed using descriptive statistics. It was found that firstly, respondents agreed with the application of environmental education in schools through local content subjects, and the Adiwiyata program itself was felt necessary to add insight and knowledge about managing the environment. Secondly, students’ perceptions of waste management as part of Environmental Education was already good, as shown by their preference to keep the garbage if they couldn’t find a place to throw them. Third, waste management and processing by the local government statistically showed good responses. One example is that many dust bins are placed in public location by grouping waste according to their type.

Abstract

Cimahi City is located in West Java Province, Indonesia. With a population of half million and the annual waste generation per capita reaching 0.48 kg/day, managing municipal waste has become increasingly challenging. To date, waste management costs in Cimahi City have not been specifically addressed. In addition to the total cost, there is also a plan to move the final landfill site from TPA Sarimukti, which is located approximately 34 km from the city center to a new final landfill site in TPA Legok Nangka, which is located approximately 56 km from Cimahi Municipality. This move will cause an increase in the cost to Cimahi Municipality. The aim of this study was to analyze the optimum waste management strategies for Cimahi City according to the environmental and cost-benefit impacts of the landfill site move. We used life cycle assessment and cost-benefit analysis to determine the optimum solution for waste management strategies of Cimahi City. Four scenarios, including the addition of waste banks, were compared as municipal waste management strategies. The switch of landfills did not contribute significantly to the total CO2 equivalent emitted. Increasing the number of waste banks could be an alternative to reducing the cost of disposing waste to landfills. Scenario (SC)-2 the scenario with additional government waste banks established, provided the highest net present value equal to IDR 1,428,622 per tonne of waste managed and was considered the most profitable in terms of the cost-benefit ratio. Hence, SC-2 was the most preferred for implementation in Cimahi City.

Abstract

Community participation is required for managing solid waste. In Indonesia, community acceptance and participation in solid waste management are assessed by the presence of a waste bank at the village or neighborhood level. This study aimed to find out the source, economic potency, and handling system of solid waste in a village setting. This study took place at Ketapang Village, Mauk Sub District, Tangerang Regency, Indonesia. This study evaluated the community participation in the waste bank in Ketapang Village, which is called, Sakumis Bersalaman Waste Bank, and its potential to manage solid waste and generate some profits for the community. Some steps were performed to obtain the answer to the research question. A desk review was conducted to analyze the current waste management practice. Solid waste generation data was taken from an 8-days survey of the collected waste managed by the waste bank. In-depth interviews with 96 households were conducted to find out the potential of future waste bank development. It was found that from 1,988 households in Ketapang Village only 448 households participated in Sakumis Bersalaman Waste Bank. Based on the results of the analysis on the questionnaire which was distributed randomly to 182 households which are communities around the waste bank, it was found that 51.4% of respondents were not yet members of the waste bank. From this percentage, 94.4% of them declared that they want to be waste bank members. It is suggested to Shakumis Bersalaman Waste Bank to add members so that more waste will be recycled. In this way, the community will receive more benefits. From the results, we concluded that community participation through a waste bank, especially a better waste management system, is the potential way to increase the economic level of the village. Moreover, a waste bank could facilitate better solid waste management and produce a sustainable circular economy at the village level.

Abstract

Food waste has an impact that can harm or disrupt human life. In Indonesia, food waste management has not been done in an integrated manner. This study was conducted to formulate recommendations for the proper handling of food waste for the people of Indonesia. Formulation of foodwaste management was carried out after collecting and processing data from respondents. Data on conditions and public opinion were obtained from 2 groups of respondents, namely the general public and environmental engineering students from several universities. Cluster analysis, AMOS approach and text mining were ulitzed as methods in data processing and analysis. The results showed that public opinion about knowledge of food waste is quite high. These recommendations for handling food waste are through the habits of food producers, the community as consumers, distribution of food before it expires, processing it into animal feed, processing it into an energy source with anaerobic digestion, and processing it into compost with good cooperation between waste collectors, companies composting and farmers using compost.

Abstract

The increase in population and changes in community consumption patterns are one of the triggers for the increasing volume of waste. Therefore, changes are needed to manage waste so that the accumulation of waste can be handled properly. Government cooperation is considered important in solving problems. The volume of waste from its source has to be reduced. Therefore, it is important to empower the community in managing waste. This study compares the community participation in 3 villages in managing waste in their respective housing areas and waste management managed by the City Sanitation Department. Waste management in 3 locations became areas that can reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill. The data collection methods include interviews, observation and documentation, while data analysis uses descriptive qualitative techniques. Based on the results of the study, one form of leader and community participation in environmental improvement efforts is by participating in managing waste, participating in 3R workshops and giving labor contributions in the form of community service.

Abstract

This research focuses on discussing the learning and understanding of the concepts of science in inclusive students at one of the State Junior High Schools in Malang with questionnaire methods, interviews, and documentation. The subjects used in this research were 2 source teachers, 2 special companion teachers (GPK), 25 regular students from class VIIIB, and 14 students with special needs. The learning system, especially with the topic of global warming in the inclusive school, is not yet fully optimal because the learning process is dominated by teachers using the lecture method. The level of understanding of the concept of regular students falls into the good category up to the cognitive domain C4. Meanwhile, the average student with special needs is better able to understand the concept by giving examples in the cognitive domain of C2. The low level of understanding of students' concepts, especially students with special needs, is due to the learning system which is more dominated by teachers in the classroom, the unavailability of learning media for students with special needs in understanding each concept and the number of special companion teachers (GPK) for students who need them which is still limited.
