In the nine-year period between 2016 and 2024, games belonging to Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty franchise claimed the top spot as the highest grossing video game of the year in the United States seven times. In 2023, Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software, was the best-selling game in the United States, while two installments in the Call of Duty series made the top ten. However, in 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was ranked first based on dollar sales.
