El nombre del profesor Pedraza está asociado al libro antiguo y, desde luego, a la investigación con fondos documentales. Así lo atestiguan sus numerosas publicaciones, que han sacado a la luz datos de documentos sitos en múltiples archivos. Y si hay una zona española que tiene bien documentada su historia libraria es precisamente Aragón, y, en especial, Zaragoza, de lo que es responsable al autor del libro que se reseña. El libro español del Renacimiento es fruto de un proyecto que el autor ha seguido con constancia, a saber, documentar todo el proceso de creación del libro desde la elaboración del material empleado hasta el momento de su distribución y venta. De ahí el subtítulo, pues elabora la crónica de la "vida" del libro a partir de los documentos contemporáneos. En efecto, el autor utiliza un tipo de documento que tiene una doble cualidad: por un lado, aporta una rica información; por otro, es un documento que suele abundar y conservarse. Me refiero, como el lector habrá deducido, al protocolo notarial, donde varias partes actúan ante un escribano, que asienta el acto en unos pliegos que luego irá encuadernando. La información es muy variada (en palabras del autor, destaca por su calidad informativa, "por su complejidad, por su prolijidad y por su hereogeneidad") y los investigadores que se han dedicado a su análisis sistemático han obtenido magníficos resultados; baste recordar los trabajos de Mercedes Agulló sobre el mundo del libro madrileño, de José Luis Barrio sobre bibliotecas particulares, de José Manuel Prieto sobre la lectura en Madrid en el Siglo de Oro, de Carmen Álvarez Márquez sobre el libro sevillano del XVI, o del propio Manuel José Pedraza. El autor extrae la información de un gran número de documentos, bastantes de ellos ya publicados, otros muchos inéditos, y divide su exposición en siete capítulos en que se centra en los soportes (papel y pergamino); en la elaboración del libro manuscrito ("de mano"); en el paso del original a la imprenta, con una muy interesante información acerca de los contratos de impresión, extraordinaria fuente que nos expresa las prácticas habituales en la impresión; en el oficio de impresor y en el taller, con la descripción de éste y de la organización del oficio, que ayuda a comprender la participación de cada miembro en las actividades impresoras; en "el libro en la imprenta", donde los documentos muestran información sobre la compaginación o el formato, sobre las fundiciones, o los procesos de composición, pruebas y corrección, impresión y entrega de ejemplares; en la distribución del libro y la librería, con datos acerca de la compra al por mayor, sobre su transporte, tan importante para que llegara a todos los puntos de venta; y, por último, en la adquisición del libro y la biblioteca, fin último del libro. El Colegio de la Compañía de Jesús de Montilla fue fundado en 1551 por Catalina Fernández de Córdoba , II Marquesa de Priego, y llegó a contar con una de las mejores bibliotecas de la Orden. Entre los jesuitas que dedicaron su vida al Colegio, destaca Sebastián Méndez, quien alternó su puesto de rector con su trabajo de bibliotecario, lo que redunda en la idea de la importancia de las bibliotecas para la Compañía. Precisamente su primer periodo como rector coincide con el periodo de mayor crecimiento de la biblioteca de Montilla. Fue rector del Colegio en dos ocasiones, alrededor del 27 de mayo de 1617, y desde el 3 de diciembre de 1647 hasta comienzo de 1651 (Fejér 1982). Era natural de Antequera y murió en Montilla el 21 de diciembre de 1655. Su trabajo ha quedado reflejado en anotaciones de numerosos libros de la Biblioteca.

The College of the Society of Jesus in Montilla was founded in 1551 by Catalina Fernández de Córdoba, 2nd Marquise of Priego, and came to boast one of the Order's finest libraries. Among the Jesuits who dedicated their lives to the College, Sebastián Méndez stands out, who alternated his position as rector with his work as librarian, which reinforces the idea of the importance of libraries for the Society. His first term as rector coincided with the period of greatest growth for the Montilla library. He was rector of the College on two occasions, around 27 May 1617, and from 3 December 1647 until the beginning of 1651 (Fejér 1982). He was a native of Antequera and died in Montilla on 21 December 1655. His work is reflected in the annotations in numerous books in the Library.

У статті проаналізовано хроніку Якима Єрлича-українського шляхтича, який жив у 1598-1674 роках і створив суб'єктивний опис подій того часу. На відміну від переважної більшості українських хроністів XVII-XVIII століть, Єрлич критично ставиться до козацьких повстань, оцінюючи їх як руйнівні події, спрямовані проти демократичних основ Речі Посполитої та звичного способу життя соціальних еліт. Його творчість цінна як відображення позицій українських соціальних еліт, інтегрованих з державним устроєм Речі Посполитої, що поєднували усвідомлення своєї етнічно-конфесійної ідентичності та ворожість до східних деспотій. У протистоянні проєвропейських і промосковських сил Єрлич однозначно обирає перші. Після поділу України у 1667 році вздовж Дніпра, він фактично залишився на правобережній частині, яка до 1793 року належала Речі Посполитій.

Based on extensive archival research, this article argues that between 1903 and 1916, the Free Library of Philadelphia's (FLP's) story hours-and its children's work more broadlyrepresented a crucible of community building. This community building depended upon librarians' awareness and attentiveness (e.g., apprehending social, cultural, economic, and environmental concerns, needs, and wants), involvement (e.g., participating in community activities and community organizations), connection (e.g., integrating library services into the community as well as embedding community work in the library's organizational culture), and belief in their ability to make a profound difference in their users' lives. Community building was both local and national, place-based and imagined. Moreover, it was inextricable from librarians' professionalization efforts. The FLP's early twentieth century experience suggests that the process of community building is more ambivalent and nuanced than scholars recognize. Not merely a tool of the powerless, community building may be a tool of the powerful. Additionally, we problematize current storytelling scholarship. The practice may encourage belonging, on the one hand, but exclusion, on the other. In the FLP's case, story hours purveyed a distinctively hegemonic notion of American citizenship. These programs both reflected and perpetuated a pervasive tension between democratic universalism and ethnoracial particularism. Public librarianship's legitimacy, even its solvency, depended upon its practitioners' ability to claim a jurisdiction, and thus social and cultural authority. Retaining physical custody of information resources in a new type of institution, public librarians sought to carve out, defend, and even expand their jurisdiction given their always contested position vis-à-vis public schools, other types of libraries (academic, special, private/subscription-based), and the commercial publishing trade. Community building, enveloping as it did education, recreation, and culture, proved an optimal space in which to do so. This article first describes the founding of the Free Library of Philadelphia as an institution devoted to place-based and imagined, local and national, community building. Then, we discuss the branch system, children's work, and story hours, namely the ways in which they instantiated the FLP's community building agenda. Throughout, we explore the FLP's community awareness and attentiveness, its involvement with and connection to its community members, and its effort to make a difference in the lives of Philadelphians.

Filippo Raffaelli fu direttore della Biblioteca comunale di Fermo dal 1872 al 1893. Nella sua visione la biblioteca si configura come organismo
rappresentativo dello spiritus loci, riferimento identitario della comunità di cui è espressione, interprete attivo della continuità e dello sviluppo coerente delle raccolte. Il valore di esse, tuttavia, non va misurato solo con il criterio dell’antichità, della rarità e del pregio dei libri ma con quello della reale utilità per i lettori, verificata con il ‘termometro’ dell’uso che essi ne fanno.
Filippo Raffaelli was director of the Fermo Municipal Library from 1872 to 1893. In his vision, the library was a body representative of the spiritus loci, a point of reference for the identity of the community it represents, and an active interpreter of the continuity and coherent development of the collections. Their value, however, is measured not only by the age, rarity, and value of the books, but by their true usefulness to readers, verified by the "thermometer" of their use.

This review evaluates the recently published volume on Aḥmad Pasha al-Jazzār’s library, commending its innovative methodologies and its contribution to extending Ottoman library studies beyond the imperial center. At the same time, it highlights the volume’s limited engagement with archival documentation and its omission of the devastating impact of the sieges of Acre, both of which are crucial for understanding the library’s dissolution. Overall, the review situates the work as an important but preliminary step in reconstructing provincial Ottoman book culture.

The physical library of New Age philosopher Dr Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) has survived somewhat intact at Dornach, Switzerland. The library as it appears today is a post-mortem assemblage of nearly ten thousand items, mostly books. The first catalogue was made during WWII by Werner Teichert, who used a bespoke categorisation scheme. Martina Maria Sam has created an updated catalogue of Rudolf Steiner's library. She has generally followed the categorisation scheme of her predecessor, and expanded the categories from 19 to 25. Sam produced a catalogue, in 2024, comprising three published volumes. The introduction to that 3-volume work has now been published as a 106-page book, 'An Introduction to the Library of Rudolf Steiner', and is now reviewed. The 'Introduction' is recommended as a worthy acquisition for all Rudolf Steiner scholars and libraries.

It is generally known how much the media participate in the construction and (re)production of social reality. When analyzing the long-term causes of the normalization and popularization of violence in the public discourse of Serbia, the responsibility of the media, especially the national public service RTS, and other TV broadcasters with a national frequency - Pink and Happy, which promote and sponsor persons with criminal records through their news programs, "talk-shows" and, especially, reality shows, is highlighted. As one of the first reactions to mass crimes, already on May 5, 2023, i.e. two days after the crime in "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school and one day after the crime in the vicinity of Mladenovac, the NGO Kreni Promeni launched an online Petition to revoke the licenses of Pink and Happy television stations, which has been signed by almost half a million people, which is about 15% of the total population of Serbia, which, according to estimates, uses the Internet every day.

Opšte je poznata stvar koliko mediji učestvuju u konstrukciji i (re)produkciji društvene realnosti. Kada se analiziraju dugoročni uzroci normalizacije i popularizacije nasilja u javnom diskursu Srbije, ističe se odgovornost medija, a posebno nacionalnog javnog servisa RTS-a, te drugih TV emitera s nacionalnom frekvencijom – Pink i Happy, koji putem svojih informativnih emisija, „talk-showa“ i, posebno, rijalitija promovišu i sponzorišu ličnosti s kriminalnim dosijeima. Kao jednu od prvih reakcija na masovne zločine, već 5. maja 2023. godine, dakle dva dana nakon zločina u OŠ „Vladislav Ribnikar“ i dan posle zločina u okolini Mladenovca, NVO Kreni Promeni je pokrenula onlajn Peticiju za oduzimanje dozvola televizijama Pink i Happy, koju je do ovog trenutka potpisalo skoro pola miliona ljudi, što je oko 15% ukupnog stanovništva Srbije koje, prema procenama, svakodnevno koristi internet.

Il gruppo di lavoro del progetto "Ticinensia disiecta", con Laura Luraschi e Renzo Iacobucci, presenterà alcuni casi di studio dedicati al riutilizzo di frammenti manoscritti all’interno di libri a stampa conservati presso la Biblioteca della Madonna del Sasso di Orselina (Locarno). A partire da questi esempi verranno inoltre tracciate alcune prospettive di ricerca che potranno estendersi ad altri patrimoni librari del territorio ticinese.

Književni petak, najdugovječnija zagrebačka javna tribina posvećena književnim, umjetničkim, historiografskim i društveno-filozofskim temama, predstavlja intrigantno premda nedovoljno istraženo poglavlje hrvatske kulturne povijesti druge polovine 20. i početka 21. stoljeća. Istražujući njezinu unutarnju (tematsku), ali i izvanjsku (kontekstualnu) dimenziju, građenu u posljednjim godinama (pred)televizijske kulture i razvijanu u vrijeme procvata različitih vrsta popularnih, svakodnevnih i potrošačkih praksi, otkrivamo tribinu kao sredstvo usmene (samo)reprezentacije književnika i pisane riječi, koja u istraživačkom smislu donosi izvoran uvid u oblike, navike i iskustvo „konzumacije“ književnosti. Drugim riječima, tribina je znak ukusa, rafinmana, kulturnih interesa pojedinca i zajednice, ali i odraz kulturnopolitičkih, nacionalnih i ideoloških konstelacija u određenome povijesnom trenutku. Kao „posrednička institucija“ između izlagača i publike, manifestacija petkom označava zanimljivu točku u okviru proučavanja hrvatske i jugoslavenske kulturne i intelektualne scene, pa je cilj ove monografije istaknuti njezine posebnosti i konvencije, povijesne preobrazbe i najznačajnije goste i sugovornike.

Taking as the starting point, Ahmed El-Shamsy's new book Rediscovering the Islamic Classics is a comprehensive introduction to trace the historical trajectory of Islamic intellectual legacy. In this engaging yet pleasantly thought-out book El Shamsy intends to offer a fresh conversation on the massive loss of manuscripts, role of colonialism and its role in strengthening the Orientalist enterprise in Muslim World including the drain of manuscripts into Europe. Bringing to light the agents and events of the Islamic print revolution, this work is also an absorbing examination of the central role printing and its advocates played in the intellectual history of the modern Arab world. This review essay offers a contextual perspective and a detailed rationale behind the loss of manuscripts and unpacks some of the important debates behind the decline and restoration of Islam's intellectual legacy.

Art history, in its quest to explicate the connections between art and mind, time and place, became a discipline that combined or connected various fields of enquiry to other historical moments. Hitler's accession to power in 1933 resulted in a major diaspora of Europeans, mostly German Jews, and one of the most critical dispersions of intellectuals ever recorded. Their relocation to many western countries, including Australia, resulted in major intellectual and cultural developments within those societies. By investigating selected case studies, this research illuminates the important contributions made by these individuals to the academic and cultural studies in Melbourne. Dr Ursula Hoff, a German art scholar, exiled from Hamburg, arrived in Melbourne via London in December 1939. After a brief period as a secretary at the Women's College at the University of Melbourne, she became the first qualified art historian to work within an Australian state gallery as well as one of the foundation lecturers at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne. While her legacy at the National Gallery of Victoria rests mostly on an internationally recognised Department of Prints and Drawings, her concern and dedication extended to the Gallery as a whole. Franz Philipp, a Viennese art history doctoral student, whose passage of exile was deeply traumatic, arrived in Australia on board HMT Dunera. He rose to become the 'co-architect' of the newly founded Fine Arts Department ofthe University of Melbourne, where he instituted a rigorous standard of 'continental' scholarship. Professor Joseph Burke, a graduate in Fine Arts and a British war-ti~e civil servant, was appointed to the first Herald Chair of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne in 1946. His mission was not only to establish art historical studies in the University, but also to take art into the public sphere; both these responsibilities demanded a multifarious role in the fine arts and cultural environment in Melbourne. Together with other important Europeans and Australians, these three scholars assisted in the cultural revision of the post-war period, legitimating cultural and educational paradigms and processes by establishing a more dynamic cross-cultural and international programme of scholarship and change within the arts more generally. Individually and collectively, Ursula Hoff, Franz Philipp and Joseph Burke became a seminal force in the academic, intellectual, museological and cultural environment of post-war Melbourne. 11 ...

The present study sets out to give an account of the problems affecting the museums and museum collections in Alba County after the end of the Second World War, as well as the transformations they suffered in the years that followed the proclamation of the Romanian People's Republic on 30 December 1947. The study looks into the Regional Museum and the Batthyáneum Library in Alba Iulia, the Museum of Archeology and Numismatics in Aiud and the Sabin Olea collection of Cib commune. In the period under scrutiny, the authorities exerted increased pressure on museums to have their specialists hasten the reformation of exhibitions and change the historical discourse in accordance with communist ideology.

de 1860, caracterizada por un mínimo apoyo del Estado peruano en pro de mejorar las instalaciones, adquirir nuevos libros y aumentar el personal. A pesar del favorable contexto financiero del país, producto de la venta del guano al exterior, ello no significó que se propiciara una real contribución a favor de dicho espacio cultural. En ese contexto, se conoció del ofrecimiento de dos valiosas bibliotecas particulares: la de Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna y la de Manuel Pérez de Tudela. Si bien el gobierno terminó adquiriendo ambas, la primera parcialmente y la segunda en su totalidad, con el fin de enriquecer los fondos de la Biblioteca Nacional, ello no terminó configurando el inicio de una política estatal de contribución económica permanente a la institución, por lo cual no pasaron de ser hechos aislados.

La biblioteca intesa come edificio risponde a criteri di ordine estetico e funzionale: i primi sono espressione del gusto del momento, i secondi rispondono a esigenze di conservazione e fruizione del materiale bibliografico coerentemente con l'evoluzione delle tecniche costruttive, con le abitudini di studio del pubblico e con la sua stessa struttura sociale. Le informazioni in nostro possesso sull'aspetto delle biblioteche nell'antichità si ricavano dalla ricerca archeologica e dalle fonti iconografiche e letterarie. Le prime biblioteche del mondo antico furono in Mesopotamia e in Egitto. Esse erano ubicate presso il palazzo reale o i templi, caratteristica che contraddistingue anche la prima e più famosa fra le grandi biblioteche pubbliche ellenistiche, quella del Museion di Alessandria in Egitto, fondata intorno al 300 a.C. dal faraone Tolomeo I (305 -282 a.C.). Sebbene non sussistano testimonianze archeologiche certe, sappiamo che essa era in realtà costituita da due biblioteche: la prima e maggiore (con circa 490.000 rotoli) presso il palazzo, la seconda, di molto inferiore (con circa 43.000 rotoli), presso un santuario vicino. Di circa un secolo successiva è la biblioteca di Pergamo, che con essa rivaleggiava per importanza (possedeva circa 200.000 rotoli) e la cui struttura, alla quale appartengono i resti archeologici più antichi a noi noti che si suppongono relativi a una biblioteca, si immagina simile: annessa a un tempio dedicato ad Atena, la biblioteca era all'interno di un lungo edificio con esterno colonnato e consisteva in quattro stanze (tre di ridotte dimensioni e una più ampia) allineate e comunicanti fra loro, dotate alle pareti di scaffali di legno per accogliere i rotoli. Nella stanza più grande, usata probabilmente per discussioni e incontri di un pubblico assai scelto, doveva essere collocata una colossale statua di Atena e busti di Omero, Erodoto e altri noti letterati. A Roma, diversamente da quanto era accaduto nel mondo greco, le biblioteche furono a lungo soltanto private, si costituirono inizialmente come parte del bottino di guerra a seguito delle campagne militari ed erano parte dell'abitazione dei loro ricchi possessori. Solo dopo oltre un secolo dalla formazione delle prime grandi biblioteche private si iniziò a edificare anche biblioteche pubbliche, che in età imperiale dovettero

Nell'ultimo "canone" dedicato alla formazione, alle biblioteche musicali e ai sistemi di informazione bibliografico-musicali italiani, i saggi di Attilio Mauro Caproni (Il sistema della formazione dei bibliotecari musicali in Italia), Alessandra Chiarelli (Biblioteche pubbliche e fondi musicali), Claudia Parmeggiani (I servizi per la musica nel Servizio bibliotecario nazionale), Federica Riva, Anno 2000: la catalogazione dei manoscritti musicali in Italia e un nuovo confronto con il Répertoire international des sources musicales (RISM) e, infine, Massimo Gentili Tedeschi, Il lavoro dell'Ufficio Ricerca fondi musicali di Milano, analizzano con perfetta sintesi e scientificità i vari temi. In conclusione, si tratta di un volume ben costruito, ricco di informazioni e di facile utilizzo, che si propone come eccellente strumento di riflessione e consultazione sullo stato della biblioteconomia musicale in Italia per offrire risposte esaurienti a tutti gli utenti e agli studiosi. Un utile sforzo compiuto dal gruppo IAML-Italia e dalla sua coordinatrice Agostina Zecca Laterza.

Detto questo, tutte le biblioteche dell'area umanistica sono state coinvolte in una generale riorganizzazione, i cui criteri guida sono stati: priorità assoluta all'obiettivo di diminuire il numero di strutture aperte al pubblico, massima dimensione dei gruppi di utenti che avrebbero usato la nuova biblioteca per meglio sfruttarne l'ampio orario di apertura (8.30-22.00) e i suoi altri vantaggi, coerenza disciplinare dei fondi bibliografici da collocarvi, apertura da mantenersi solo per biblioteche realmente accessibili (p. es. perché al piano terra) e a norma rispetto ai requisiti di sicurezza. Le biblioteche aperte nell'area umanistica sono così passate da nove a tre: la principale è la nuova Biblioteca umanistica (che contiene monografie e annate in corso delle riviste di studi classici, lingue, italianistica, storia dell'arte, storia ex-magistero); la seconda, tutta a scaffale aperto, si trova nei locali in precedenza occupati dalla Biblioteca di studi classici (con monografie e riviste correnti e cessate di antropologia e pedagogia oltre alle annate precedenti delle riviste correnti delle discipline ospitate nella nuova Biblioteca umanistica); la terza era e resta la Biblioteca di filosofia, che non è stata spostata. La Biblioteca di geografia, prima anch'essa separata, è stata accorpata a una biblioteca situata in un'altra zona della città (Biblioteca di studi storici, politici e sociali). I locali delle "vecchie" biblioteche di minori dimensioni sono stati liberati mentre due biblioteche (Italianistica e Lingue) sono state trasformate in biblioteche di deposito chiuse al pubblico dove collocare materiale meno richiesto (sia monografie sia riviste cessate), doppioni ecc., e prelevabile quotidianamente a orari fissi dietro richiesta al bancone della Biblioteca umanistica in quanto poste nelle sue immediate vicinanze. La popularización de almanaques y calendarios fue
un fenómeno que caracterizó a la cultura impresa del siglo XIX:
fueron objetos de uso cotidiano que solo en los últimos años
comenzaron a formar parte de las investigaciones en torno a las
publicaciones periódicas decimonónicas. A partir del relevamiento
de un corpus limitado de almanaques rioplatenses, exploramos
el cruce de temporalidades, la materialidad de los impresos y la
práctica de apropiación por parte de sus lectores, que dejaron
marcas, anotaciones y reflexiones en sus páginas. Los almanaques y
calendarios se constituyen como impresos privilegiados para observar
las transformaciones técnicas, los vaivenes políticos y el viraje en
la cotidianeidad de un público lector cada vez más diversificado.
El análisis de los puntos de fuga, las novedades y las grietas en
un tipo de impreso de larga duración fuertemente asociado a
convencionalismos genéricos nos permite apreciar los quiebres y las
continuidades en la vida diaria de los lectores comunes.

Es innegable que en la actualidad la gran preocupacion de muchos gobiernos, entidades, sistemas bibliotecarios y profesionales de la informacion, es el tema de la preservacion, es decir, como, con que, cuales, donde y para que almacenar y salvaguardar los documentos, los archivos, los datos, la informacion y el conocimiento. En Costa Rica, se han hecho esfuerzos para abordar esta problematica, es un ejemplo de ello la labor que realiza el Archivo Nacional, que es la institucion rectora que salvaguarda, almacena, preserva y conserva todos aquellos documentos que tienen que ver con lo publico y lo estatal. Desde otro frente, esta la Biblioteca Nacional que como mision tiene el registro de todas aquellas publicaciones, documentos, materiales que traten sobre un pais. No obstante, los esfuerzos y los mecanismos para hacer cumplir la normativa juridica en que se amparan estas instituciones, parece que se hacen insuficienrtes, y aqui es cuando surge la interrrogante, que hace falta? ?que ...

as nuevas y múltiples funciones que debe atender actualmente la biblioteca pública a raíz de un público cada vez más heterogéneo e indefinido, de la creciente variedad de medios de comunicación y de métodos de presentación y reproducción de la información, de la explosión informativa y la demanda creciente de ofertas culturales plantean una serie de dilemas: las bibliotecas están capacitadas para atender todas las funciones?, cuáles son las prioridades frente a la evolución que cada una de ellas soporta? cuál es esa realidad en los países en vías de desarrollo como Argentina con inestabilidad política, sin desarrollo económico y sin conciencia, a nivel de las autoridades, del valor e importancia de estas instituciones?

The article focuses on the collection of sixteenth-century publishers' catalogues gathered by Antoine-Augustin Renouard (1765-1853) and, more specifically, on its dispersion, with the aim of reconstructing the history and current location of his copies. This research led to the discovery of a Sammelband of manuscript and printed materials relating to the Aldine Press which was owned by the same Renouard and is now kept at the Universitätsbibliothek in Tübingen. The most interesting pieces are commented on, and a detailed description of the Sammelband contents is provided in the appendix.
