URLX (Video Game)

URLX is a browser Rhythm Game created by GD Colon. It is mainly played in the address bar of a web browser, with text characters and Emojis representing incoming keys to press to the beat. The actual webpage, on the other hand, is used for creating levels to play and viewing gameplay statistics.

The game is currently released as an alpha, and can be played here. It supports loading levels created for Rhythm Doctor, StepMania, and Friday Night Funkin' alongside its own file format.

URLX provides examples of:

  • Anti-Frustration Features: Clicking on the "abcd" emoji opens up a menu with a guide for what each emoji in the address bar means.
  • Character Customization: You can swap out the player icon in the address bar for another of your choice, with it being a smiley face by default.
  • Gameplay Automation: Enabling autoplay will automatically play through a level and hit all notes perfectly, replacing all judgements with a robot emoji to indicate it's turned on.
  • Interface Screw: URLX screws with the interface of your web browser by having almost all of the gameplay take place in the address bar rather than on the actual page.
  • Level Editor: The game features one, which is the only way to get a level to play as it doesn't include any pre-made ones.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: All you have to do is tap matching keys to the rhythm as they approach through the address bar.
