TOY BOX is a horror visual novel and Point-and-Click Game made by DEA Dline Studios. The game is available on Steam and Itch.io
.
Greetings to our newest toy inspector!
Today is your first day of work here at the Toy Maker's TOY BOX. At the end of their shelf life, it's up to clever inspectors like you to decide which of the Maker's creations are worth salvaging.
Pull apart stitches or rip off an arm or two; we support whatever you must do to ensure that you only save toys of the highest quality. Should you ever feel unsure, there's no need to panic! Simply toss the trash where it belongs: the incinerator. After all, it's of the utmost importance that inspectors upkeep the Maker's image.
We look forward to your hard work here at the TOY BOX and congratulations – only the most special candidates have the honor of inspecting on behalf of the Maker!
TOY BOX contains examples of:
- Afterlife Antechamber: Context from each toy's story proposes that all the toys are dead people judged in the afterlife. The workshop serves as the place where all humans go after they die.
- Auto-Save: Though you can also save manually if you wish.
- Content Warning: There is a content warning present when the player opens the game and on the game's website.
- God Is Flawed: The Grand Toymaker holds onto Clement, forcing them to go through endless cycles of trials in order to "fix" them. Instead of destroying Clement and letting them finally die, the Grand Toymaker's attachment to their first creation ironically causes them eternal suffering.
- Humans Are Flawed: Every toy within the game is subjected to judgement by the player. Each of these toys showcase a different human's life, and their troubles within it. Most of these characters have committed some type of crime or sin in their life.
- Judgement of the Dead: Context from each toy's story proposes that all the toys are dead people judged in the afterlife.
- Ominous Visual Glitch: The game has multiple visual glitches, from screen warping to text glitching.
- Multiple Endings: There are three endings in the game: Routine, Martyrized, and Self-Actualization.
- Religious Horror: The Grand Toymaker is revealed to be a parallel to God, with the inspectors underneath them being that of angels. This proposes that this game is an allusion to Judgement Day, with all the toys being dead people judged in the afterlife. With the the lack of inspectors and the self-actualization ending, it was revealed that the destroyed inspectors committed an act of rebellion against the Grand Toymaker, trying to protect the toys from destruction.
- Toy-Based Characterization: All toys in the game are characterized by their appearance. For example, En Pointe is defined by her love for dancing, or Lambhead lived on a farm due to both the farm animal and outfit appearance.
