When he digs up his backyard, Frankie the Dog creates a mess for all the bugs who live there. The Queen Bee therefore shrinks Frankie down to insect size in order to teach him a lesson about respecting his fellow creatures. With the help of a worker bee named Ruby, Frankie must collect enough bones to earn the six dog tags that will restore him to his proper size.
This game provides examples of:
- Educational Song: The game contains five songs that teach math concepts.
- Exposition Fairy: Doubly so. Frankie was already this trope to begin with, but now, he has his own exposition fairy in the form of Ruby.
- Fetch Quest: The goal of the game is to collect bones by playing the available mini-games. Five bones earn a dog tag, and thirty bones total will restore Frankie to his original size.
- Incredible Shrinking Man: The main plot involves Frankie being shrunk by the Queen Bee as punishment for tearing apart his backyard (which coincidentally is the insects' kingdom). He can only return to normal if he collects all six magic dog tags. After beating the game, Frankie can choose to return any time he wishes and collect extra dog tags.
- Insect Gender-Bender: Averted with Ruby, a female worker bee who helps Frankie out throughout the game. On the other hand, this is played straight with the cowboy ant in "Ant Wrangler's Ranch."
- Insect Queen: Of course, the Queen Bee is depicted as an actual monarch and not just a baby factory. In fact, it's implied that she rules over all the bugs in Frankie's backyard, not just the bees.
- Lies to Children: The zero song says that zero is the number "all numbers start from." This obviously ignores the existence of negative numbers, but that's a bit beyond the normal first-grade curriculum.
- Magic Pants: For some reason, Frankie's vest shrinks with him, but his collar does not.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Tony Pope's voice for the Bookworm is clearly an impression of Sterling Holloway.
- Random Event: At random points in the game, the Worm shows up and forces you to complete one of three tasks in order to get past him.
- Recurring Riff: The loop tracks heard during the ant wrangling mini-game have the birthday song (played by clicking on the purple candle near the pathway to the spider web, and not to be confused with "Happy Birthday to You") worked into them.
- Space Whale Aesop: Respect nature or a magical insect will shrink you.
- Stock Animal Diet: The entire plot revolves around Frankie's love for bones. The reason he was digging up his backyard in the first place was to bury his bones, and the goal of the game is to collect those same bones.
- To the Tune of…: The zero song is to the tune of "What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor?"
