The Golden Empire, and the Royal Nation.
Come extreme political differences in ideology- the first bombs were dropped, marking the Queen and Kings war.
Soon enough, there was nothing left of the ravaged surface; it rested completely un-inhabitable, forcing everyone beneath dirt.
The world went underground, but the war did not rest."
Grave/Digger is a 2024 First-Person Shooter on Roblox, created by Archeximus, the same developer behind Decaying Winter.
It is set in an alternate timeline where World War I resulted in the planet being divided into two opposing superstates: Golden Empire and Royal Nation. Their differing ideologies culminated in the Queen and Kings war, which was so devastating it left the entire surface uninhabitable, forcing everybody underground, where they kept waging the war that destroyed the surface.
The game´s main gimmick is the ability to mine out the entire map, ala Deep Rock Galactic, as well as its unique and robust gunplay compared to most of its Roblox brethren.

Bring these tropes to the light, show them the might of the Golden Empire and prevail.
Bring these tropes to the light, show them the might of the Golden Empire and prevail.
- Acceptable Breaks from Reality:
- You can mine out a tunnel big enough for you and your teammates from your spawn to a capture point in over a minute with nothing but a mining pick.
- Supply Caches and Soldat's pouches always have the gear and ammo you guns are chambered with.
- Humans can breathe underground for very long periods of time and even form societies underground, despite humans realistically not surviving for longer due to the lack of oxygen coming from the surface (the surface being uninhabitable due to the air being unbreathable certainly doesn't help).note
- Armor Is Useless: Averted with helmets, since a single shot to the head is lethal regardless of how much damage one would normally dealnote . All the classes can wear one, except the Officer. Helmets nullify all damage to the head, but with the right penetration at the right distance, they can be knocked off. Extremely averted with the Lancer class however, whose helmets are completely impenetrable."Helmets will save your life"
- Abandoned Area: The capture points can spawn as collapsed variants: Victims of cave ins, these points are completely covered in rocks and lay in ruins, both teams will have to dig through the terrain to access and capture them.
- Actual Pacifist: A Player that equips the Hippocratic perk becomes this. This "perk" allows said player to perform surgery on teammates faster and give them a morale buff after doing so, but it takes away all of the Hippocratic player´s guns, leaving them only with the standard melee for self-defense, and taking another person's life is so traumatic for the Player's mook they will be unable to take another, even when faced with imminent danger.
- Apocalypse How: The earth experienced a Class 1 event, in the form of the Queen and Kings war, the surface was left uninhabitable due to the unprecendented and relentless bombing, which forced the world beneath dirt. A lot of people died in the surface, and the survivors underground face famine and disease constantly; however, civilization manages to hold onto its industrial capability and technology, so the war continues, even if it's reduced to skirmishes over sunless gravel.
- A.K.A.-47: The guns in-game are based on real late 19th and early 20th century firearms, these are just the ones that can be selected in the loadout menu:
- The 'Prince' Long Rifle is a Lebel Model 1886
with the barrel shortened. - The 'Adjudicator' Repeating Rifle is a Fusil Automatique Modèle 1917

- The 'Whisper' Silenced Rifle is a M1903 Springfield
with a Maxim Silencer. - The 'Volk' Scoped Rifle is a Mosin–Nagant
with a Lee Enfield scope. - The 'Judgement' Breech Rifle is a Martini–Henry

- The 'Crestfall' Lever Rifle is a Winchester Model 1866
note - The 'Jesse' Combat Rifle is a Lee Enfield Mk. 3

- The 'Equine' Riding Shotgun is your standard double barrel shotgun.
- The 'Hellion' Automatic Shotgun is a Browning Auto-5
with an enlarged forestock and magazine tube.note - The 'Grace' Service Revolver is a Smith & Wesson Model 3

- The 'Honour' Duty Pistol is a Mauser C96

- The 'Talon' Army Revolver is a Colt Single Action Army

- The 'Union' Military Pistol is a Steyr M1912

- The 'Negotiator' Pocket Shotgun is a Remington 1893
maimed enough to classify as a handgun. - The 'Kneel' Silenced Revolver is a Pieper Model 1893 Double Action Revolver
with a Maxim Silencer. - The 'Hope' Automatic Pistol is a Colt M1911

- The 'Prince' Long Rifle is a Lebel Model 1886
- Alternate History Wank: In the one year period in between the end of World War I and 1919, all of the Eurasian landmass was consolidated into the theological autocracy of Golden Empire, presumably of German origin, while the Americas (and Poland) are united under the Royal Nation, an oligarchical coalition formed by the United States. Also by 1919, both superpowers had amassed enough bombs to turn the entire earth into an uninhabitable wasteland (Nuclear weapons won't arrive for another two decades.)
- Awesome, but Impractical: The 'Kingslayer' Percussion Revolver, which deals 180 damage to the body at the closest range, and also can punch through helmets just like the 'Judgement'. The catch? The gun is easily the clunkiest one in the game, thanks to its laborious loading procedure that involves mutliple keybinds. For those who care... It can take you well over a minute to reload the entire thing, and if you fuck up the loading procedure then you just made your fancy revolver a useless chunk of metal, better get another one from the nearest cache. You won´t want to miss a shot with this thing, too bad you can't steady aim with it either...
- Bayonet Ya: The 'Judgement' Breech Rifle, as well as the Trench trooper's Shotgun are equipped with a bayonet, which deals more damage than the standard gun bash, and allows the user to perform a bayonet charge by pressing Q while sprinting.
- Boring, but Practical:
- The 'Prince' Long Rifle is the first rifle players have access to, and while far from being notable (aside from being the murder weapon in the assasination of Prince Leido of the Royal Nation, kickstarting the whole war.), it has a generous ammo capacity of 7, 8mm smokeless rounds each capable of reliably two-shotting anybody at any range, and with decent handling and reload times, the Prince is one of the few rifles that can excell in any situation.
- Perks that give passive stat boosts, like the increased sprint acceleration of Greyhound, the faster drawing and aim speed of Black Hand, and the speedier reloads of Veteran, are generally favored over the more gimmicker and situational perks.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: If a Lancer gets someone from behind while charging, the victim will be hoisted into the air for all to see while screaming in agony.
- Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: The outline that appears on your teammates when they are buffed by an officer's order:
- Advance is white
- Defend is green
- Focus is blue
- Crapsack World: Grave/Digger is not a nice place to live in. Everybody has been forced underground thanks to an apocalyptic war waged between the two remaining superpowers, where they keep waging said war underground and whose end may not be seen in the forseeable future. Anybody that refuses to go to the frontlines is branded as an outcast note and considered "shoot on sight" by both sides. All of this without mentioning that living underground surrounded by dust and smoke is probably not good for your asthma.
- Deadly Upgrade: In-Universe, the Dreadnaught is a terror on the battlefield that demands respect, but the story of how one is created is frankly horrifying. They are placed in "The Iron Coffin", a suit of armour that is practically invincible, and loaded up with a lethal dose of painkillers so they don't feel themselves literally cooking alive from their own body heat. It's so inhumane that neither side is willing to use it needlessly, and these are enemies who were willing to continue a war after it destroyed the world's surface.
- Dead Man's Hand: On the Manufacturing capture point. There is a table with a paused game of poker, the chair of the hand's owner is unexplainably knocked over.
- Difficult, but Awesome: The "Judgement" Breech Rifle is considered this as its most effective use case. It has one shot, deals 199 damage to the body[[note]]A regular player has 200 health, while a standard Shock Trooper has 300 health, but nailing the head under 60 studs will punch through the helmet and instantly put an end to the opponentnote . This includes Shock Troopers, meaning a well-placed headshot at the right distance will immediately invalidate them from threatening your team.
- Everything-Is-Smashable Area: Seeing as how you can mine out practically the entire map, this is a given. Aside from crucial areas like your spawn and capture points, you can dig into practically any surface to do whatever you need to.
- Group Picture Ending: After the Campaign concludes and the result screen fades, a group photo of the victorious team will appear. With all the players mooks posing on their quarters, alongside the name of their battallion.
- Surrender Backfire: The flavor text of the Hunter's kit and Stimulant Compounds imply that this can be the outcome for players that surrender after a defeat. While prisoners can be stationed with any of the seven groups representing the classes, none carry a more sinister aura than the Jaeger Corp and the Mortician Wing.
- Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Officers naturally don't wear helmets, but you can also choose to spawn in without a helmet. Helmetless soldiers stand out significantly from everyone else, but enemies can take advantage of this and instantly kill them if they stick their head out.
- The Juggernaut: The Dreadnaught, full stop. They only spawn when your team is losing horribly and one of the players has a good amount of kills, but they are an absolute beast. The reinforcements ticker is set to infinity, meaning you won't be pushed to a last stand, and he carries a machine gun capable of tearing people apart in less than a second. And this is a game where automatics are a luxury. Combine this with having 10,000 health (Players normally have 200), and you have a threat that can almost singlehandedly save an entire game from a loss. If not for the passive health decay and lack of healing options, it would be nigh impossible to kill one without a highly skilled team.
- Last Stand: When a team runs out of reinforcements or achieves their objective, the round enters it´s conclusive phase: Last stand. The losing team is forced to retreat to their spawn point and their dead players are respawned for the last time. It will only end once all the losing players have died, surrendered, or escaped. Can be subverted by the defeated team in some gamemodes if they manage to exhaust the winners' reinforcements and kill all of them.
- Ludicrous Gibs: Played for Horror. killing a player with a high damage gun (like the Equine or Judgement) or with explosives can often lead to gory outcomes, from making limbs fly off to bursting open their chest, these come with prolonged death animations where the victim spatters around while rattling for several seconds untill ultimately perishing. Powering Imagination.
- My Sibling Will Live Through Me: Although they aren't siblings, the Apparition perk's lore is about two people that grew up as best friends, to the point that the POV writer sees her friend as the sister she never had. They were drafted into the same unit, but the friend's body was found after a fight. Because the POV character regarded her as better, someone people would mourn for more than herself, and because they looked so similar, she swapped their dog tags to pretend that her friend was the one that survived.
- Polluted Wasteland: In lore, the reason you are fighting underground is because the war waged by the Golden Empire and Royal Nation ravaged the surface to the point that nobody can live aboveground. Instead of trying to fix it or make peace, the two powers responded by just going underground and continuing the fight.
- Recycled Soundtrack: It´s not a secret that the majority of tracks in-game come from other titles
(Mainly sourced from Battlefield 1 and V) with the exception of the period appropiate music coming from the gramophones at both spawns. - Secondary Fire: Almost all of the guns in the game have some kind of Alternative Fire/Action, which is activated by pressing Q:
- The 'Prince' can alternate between Repeating and Single firing modes. In the former the Prince will use the ammo stored in it's magazine, while in the latter the Prince will use the player's reserve ammunition, reloading after every shot, trading firerate for sustained fire.
- The 'Crestfall' 'Hellion' and 'Adjudicator' share the hip and shoulder fire stances. The hip stance allows you to move at full speed and with a tighter spread while walking and firing, while the shoulder stance increases accuracy while standing still.
- The 'Judgement' Breech Riflenote and the Heavy Lance can perform a charge attack while sprinting at full speed, which will instantly kill the first player they come in contact with.
- The 'Jesse' can be loaded with Rifle Grenades with the alt fire.
- The 'Talon' can be put into a Quick Draw mode, where the gun will be fanned, greatly increasing it's firerate, The talon can also be fanned if fired without aiming, however with greatly reduced precision.
- Straight for the Commander: While not an NPC, the immense firepower and presence of a Shock Trooper make them able to single-handedly hold off your team, making them key targets to eliminate. This is especially true with the Radio Troopers, as they buff all allies nearby.
- A more subtle example is the Dreadnought (also not an NPC). The chosen player is invincible, but they can still be damaged to wear their timer downnote . This is especially important, as the opposing team will have infinite respawns so long as the chosen player is alive on the battlefield.
- Technicolor Science: The Morticians' compounds:
- Bicardine is green (Increased passive healing.)
- Synaptizine is yellow (Faster sprint speed.)
- Mephedrone is white (Faster melee swing speed.)
- Hydrocodone is blue (Enhanced recoil control.)
- Haloperidol is purple (Better gun handling.)
- Amatoxin is gray (Induces sickness.)
- Throwing Your Gun at the Enemy: The alt-fire for the 'Negotiator' Pocket Shotgun has your character chuck the weapon as hard as they can. They also do this upon running out of ammo with it. Hilariously, it was supposed to be a Joke Item In-Universe, but since the throw itself deals 199 damage on hit, it can be a very effective way to finish someone offnote .
- The Squadette: Both the Royal Nation and Golden Empire actively recruit female soldiers. As such, players are able to customize between male and female voice lines, mostly heard through death screams. Players can also customize their hair to look like a women.
- Unlockable Content: At the start, players can only have access to the Prince rifle and Grace revolver respectively. Over the course of skirmishes, they can earn medals, which are used to unlock extra perks, guns and accessories.
- Video Game Perversity Potential: Being hosted on roblox, any unsavory messages get filtered on the text chat, however, players' messages will also appear on top of their character, visible to their team, unfiltered, allowing you to express your utter dissapointment at your incompetent teammates unfettered by political correctness.
- Your Head A-Splode: If shot with a sufficiently powerful gun, your avatar's corpse may have parts blown off depending on where you were shot. As you may have guessed from the trope name, your head can be deleted if you take an injury like a shotgun blast to the face.
