In 255 AXW, Axephus accepts a deal with the HEAL (Harnessing Ether Around Life) corporation to donate samples of his Ether in exchange for money, but HEAL double-crosses him and kidnaps him for a painful gene-splicing experiment. They infuse him with Farian DNA, which lets him combine his innate Erran psychic abilities and newfound Farian Hex magic to form Aether energy. However, he uses this power to break his restraints and attack the people keeping him captive. Unfortunately, the procedure has the side-effect of making him lose his memories over time, and he won't be able to fight back once he forgets everything. In order to get his memories back and escape, Axephus has to fight against the facility's security and take the memory serum from Dr. Loncelle.

This game contains examples of:
- Dramatic Irony: The HEAL scientists have notes about their previous gene-splicing experiment to create a superpowered Erran, but they had no idea that Erran survived childbirth despite being predicted to die and gave up on him in favor of other scientific research. That Erran is none other than Klein, the protagonist of Rave Heart.
- Evilutionary Biologist: HEAL wants to create the strongest Erran possible in order to elevate the Erran species to new heights, even if they have to kidnap someone to experiment on against his will.
- Exact Words: Dr. Loncelle gives the memory serum to Axephus in exchange for being spared, but this doesn't prevent Axephus from non-lethally throwing him into a wall with telekinesis, since he only promised to spare Loncelle from death and not pain.
- Fate Worse than Death: In the tutorial about Axephus's constant Damage Over Time penalty, the game warns that once his HP hits 0 and he loses all his memories, the HEAL corporation won't kill him, but they will imprison him and experiment on him for the rest of his life.
- Faux Affably Evil: Dr. Loncelle is very polite and professional, but this is a front to trick Axephus into complying with a seemingly harmless Ether sample donation. He has the HEAL facility capture Axephus and experiment on him against his will, and he makes it clear that he's not the least bit sorry, acting as if Axephus should be thankful for his new powers.
- Glass Cannon: Axephus is very offensively powerful with his Aether abilities, but due to the gene therapy giving him constant memory loss, he takes constant Damage Over Time that makes his survivability a lot worse than it should be and he has no healing outside of items and memory orbs. Unlike most examples in turn-based RPGs, he's the only party member and has no one to help keep him alive.
- Lack of Empathy: The HEAL scientists do not care about Axephus's pain outside of it potentially ruining their experiment and are numb to his pleas to free him from the horrific gene-splicing experiments.
- Non-Action Big Bad: Dr. Loncelle is the main antagonist, due to being the leader of the gene-splicing experiment and being the one who tricked Axephus into becoming a test subject. However, he only ever has his minions and security robots fight Axephus. Once he's cornered, he gives Axephus the memory serum in exchange for his life, since he knows he can't beat Axephus.
- Notice This: To compensate for the permanent Damage Over Time on Axephus, the game will mark all interactable events on a map with a glow, making it easier to avoid taking unnecessary steps and accumulating too much damage.
- Power of Love: After the first boss, Axephus remembers his daughter Seda, which grants him a memory orb that fully heals his HP and MP.
- Purple Is Powerful: Due to being spliced with Farian DNA to give him additional hex abilities, Axephus's hair changes from blue to purple. Some of his attacks, such as Overwhelm and Aether Assault, use purple special effects to show his power over Aether energy. According to the game description, this is partially because the developer picked "Purple" and "Survival" as the game's themes for a contest.
- Randomly Gifted: Axephus is the only Erran with the compatible DNA for HEAL's gene-splicing experiment, which is why they trick him into becoming a test subject instead of finding a willing subject.
- Resources Management Gameplay: Although Axephus is strong due to his combined psionic and hex powers, he takes constant Damage Over Time in both the field and combat due to his memory slipping away. Additionally, all encounters are finite, making it impossible to simply grind for resources forever. The player has to avoid unnecessary movement and make efficient use of items in order to clear the game.
- Thou Shalt Not Kill: Aside from the security mechs, Axephus doesn't kill any of the Erran security guards that he defeats, since none of their bodies disappear. He even spares the head scientist Dr. Loncelle despite having every reason to want him dead, though he does knock Loncelle unconscious.
