Elf's Diary (Video Game)
Elf's Diary is an RPG Maker VX Ace game developed by Starmage in 2018 as part of the BlueSkies Series.

In 2024 Descended Age, sometime before Skye's journey in BlueSkies, Faint applies to form a guild of adventurers alongside his friends Rue and Kailah. However, the mayor is skeptical about letting a group of novices form a guild when the town already has a band of heroes to protect Karonna. Faint has a week to slay all the monsters in the three nearby dungeons to prove that his guild is worthy. In order to accomplish this task, Faint recruits several more fighters and a receptionist, but also struggles to keep the guild united in the face of love triangles.

Has an itch page here.

This game contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch Sentiment: Shortly after joining the party, Madel confesses to Faint, and Faint states that he likes her too. This causes Kailah and Jinn to become jealous, but it turns out Faint doesn't understand the difference between romantic and platonic love, and he assumed Mabel was just expressing a desire for friendship.
  • Big Bad: There's a sudden increase in monster activity around the town of Karonna, which Faint's guild has to solve. The culprit is Garonna, who is actually the mayor's brother-turned-demon. At the end of the game, Garonna personally invades the town and defeats Karonna's champions, leaving Faint's guild as the last line of defense.
  • Cain and Abel: The leader of the monsters is Garonna, who is Mayor Karonna's brother. They used to have a close bond, but Garonna was transformed into a demon by an artifact in Ayala Forest and now looks down on his brother as a weakling. Garonna's goal is to destroy his brother's town using an army of monsters and cultists.
  • Call-Forward: This game takes place sometime before the events of BlueSkies, as shown by Melyra working in the pub and stating that she wants to return to Suna because of the customers sexually harassing her, which is something she complains about in the latter game.
  • Combat Medic: Faint is the party's primary healer, but he can also use elemental sword skills.
  • Counter-Attack: Ven's Tiger Stance allows him to negate a physical hit and strike back. This is meant to be combined with his Draw Aggro skill to turn the enemies' physical attacks against them.
  • Demon of Human Origin: The Final Boss, Garonna, was once Karonna's brother and was a regular human being. However, he transformed into a powerful demon upon finding an evil artifact in Ayala Forest.
  • Draw Aggro: Ven is the tank of the party and his Protector skill makes him more likely to be targeted. However, he cannot defend the party against randomly targeting or party-wide skills.
  • Dual Boss: During the intermission between the second and third dungeon, Rue and Jork team up to kidnap Kailah, setting the two up as a boss fight.
  • Evil Former Friend: Rue used to be friends with Bert, but turned against the latter for successfully asking out the girl that he also liked. His hatred for Bert is so strong that he leaves the guild when Faint recruits Bert as the guild's receptionist. In the endgame, he kidnaps Kailah in order to lure Bert out, and he considers his former guildmates to be his enemies for refusing to let him attack Bert. In the ending, he finally has a Heel Realization and buries the hatchet with Bert and the guild.
  • Extra Turn: Faint can cast Swift to increase a single ally's agility, which causes that ally to contribute two actions to the party's shared action count. Madel has a self-buff, Quicken, which causes her to contribute four actions to the shared action count. The shared action count caps out at eight to prevent Faint and Madel's agility buffs from breaking the game.
  • Fantastic Racism: Some of the townspeople of Karonna underestimate Faint's strength because he's an elf-fairy hybrid and do not consider him a worthy protector of the town.
  • Interface Spoiler: There are several hints in the UI and gameplay that indicate Rue is a temporary party member. There are five party slots and five weapon types, but Faint and Rue both use swords. While going through the first dungeon, Faint and Kailah will level up and learn several skills, but Rue never learns a single skill no matter how many levels he gains.
  • Love Triangle:
    • Rue turned against Bert due to the two of them having a mutual crush and Bert confessing first, resulting in Rue becoming crazy enough to use Kailah as a hostage to force Bert to confront him.
    • Kailah and Jinn become jealous when Madel confesses to Faint and Faint accepts without knowing the difference between friendship and romance. Fortunately, Kailah and Jinn reconcile with Faint and Madel before their friendship can truly fall apart.
  • Oblivious to Love: Faint has no idea that Kailah, Jinn, and Madel have crushes on him. This leads to Kailah and Jinn temporarily leaving the party out of jealousy when Faint seemingly accepts Madel as his girlfriend, all while he doesn't understand the difference between a girlfriend and a platonic friend. Towards the end of the game, Faint realizes that he's in love with Kailah.
  • Pet the Dog: Downplayed. Although Remie is a rich snob, he will let Faint keep the money that was taken from his room as long as Faint confesses to doing so. However, he also mocks Faint for being desperate and poor, making his mercy come off as Condescending Compassion.
  • Pre-existing Encounters: All enemies are stationary on the field, but block narrow paths that lead to story progress or treasure. Enemies don't respawn, so defeating them permanently opens up whatever path they are blocking.
  • Psycho Ex-Boyfriend: Jork helps Rue kidnap Kailah not because he cares about the latter's grudge against Bert, but because he's Kailah's ex-boyfriend who cannot take no for an answer.
  • Saintly Church: This game takes place long before the Holy Order of Vyena formed, so Vyena's churches are still a largely benevolent force that focuses on the goddess's teachings rather than hatred towards mages. The church in Karonna donates a generous sum of money to Faint's guild after they clear out two dungeons.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Rue considers Bert his archenemy and leaves the party out of anger when Faint recruits Bert. This makes it seem like Bert did something really terrible to Rue in the past and that he's hiding his true nature behind a facade of kindness. Later, it turns out Rue hates Bert because of a Love Triangle where the latter unknowingly beat the former to the punch in confessing to their shared crush. This means there was never any reason to doubt Bert's trustworthiness.
  • Temporary Party Member to Villain: Rue starts as a party member in Faint's guild, but leaves when Faint recruits Bert, who Rue considers his archnemesis. Near the end of the game, Rue kidnaps Kailah in order to lure out Bert, and is fought as a Dual Boss alongside Jork.
  • Wolfpack Boss: Skot, Sonn, and Hayme are a trio of bullies who pick on the party, but are swiftly defeated in the very first battle of the game. They show up again near the end of the game and kidnap Bert in order to lure the party out for another fight, and while they put up a better fight this time, they're still humiliated in the end.
  • The Worf Effect: Eric's band of heroes is stronger than Faint's guild at the start of the story and is famous for solving incidents in faraway lands. In the endgame, they're defeated by the leader of the monsters, Garonna, leaving it up to Faint's guild to save the day.
