Despicable Forces is a 3D Platform Game developed by Shovelware Studios on Roblox and released on November 10th, 2018. The game frames itself as an adventure obby and is, of all things, a parody of Sonic Forces using characters from the Despicable Me movie franchise. Perhaps more bizarre than this odd choice of a crossover is the unusual amount of quality put into the game, which isn't something you'd typically get out of a Roblox Obby.
The game was made private in 2022, most likely due to copyright reasons. It was later acquired by a different group known as Despicable Boost, and officially rehosted as Despicable Forces Ultimate.
This game provides examples of:
- Action Commands: Like Forces, there is one section during game where the player is required to perform a Double Boost with Gru in order to escape Mel Space.
- Adaptational Intelligence: Agnes has the typical intelligence to be expected of a 6 year old child in the Despicable Me films. This game turns her into the Wise Beyond Their Years commander of the resistance who runs the operation competantly.
- Another Dimension: Subverted: unlike in Sonic Forces, Classic Gru is specifically stated to be from "a different time period".
- Another Side, Another Story: Episode Dru, which shows the villains' side of the war.
- Artifact of Doom: Mel's nametag, much like the Phantom Ruby.
- Bait-and-Switch: Throughout the game El Macho is constantly hyped up as the strongest member of Mel's army by the other villains. However, when you finally encounter him in Crimson Carnival he simply stands there obstructing your path and is taken out with a single Banana Boost.
- Big Damn Heroes: Happens at the end of the game when Your Avatar arrives piloting a giant Minion Mech in order to fight a now colossal Mel.
- Call-Back: There's tons of nods and references to all 3 movies throughout the game.
- Casino Park: Shovelware Casino in stages 8 and 9.
- Composite Character:
- Dr. Nefario being a Gadgeteer Genius ally of the main character places him into the role of Tails, shown by some of the scenes he appears in. However, he's also a balding Mad Scientist with goggles that was responsible for creating the Phantom Nametag, meaning he has aspects of Doctor Eggman mixed in as well.
- Vector's role as a past villain summoned by Mel and also the one who emerges from a sewer to attack Dr. Nefario makes him act as an expy of Chaos. He's also fought as Young Gru's first boss using his flying buzzsaw machine, a role assumed by Doctor Eggman in Sonic Forces.
- The numerous Sonic supporting characters that served as Mission Control have been collectively condensed into Agnes.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: What happens to Gru after the second stage.
- As demonstrated by the Bait-and-Switch example above, El Macho.
- Crossover: Getting an S rank on every stage unlocks Green Hill Zone as a bonus stage. Orbot and Cubot even make a cameo at the start.
- Double Jump: Every playable character has one.
- Eviler than Thou: Mel is declared by Nefario to be this to Gru after the former summons every previous movie villain to beat Gru up.
- The final boss of Episode Dru involves Dru betraying Mel and beating him to prove himself the superior villain.
- Friendly Enemy: Vector shows up at the start of Super Silly Fun Land to sell items, claiming that just because he's your enemy doesn't mean he can't make a quick buck.
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: Throughout Episode Dru, Dru is working to help Mel win the war, and thus the stage skip prompt when you fail too many times will encourage you to help Mel win this war and the goal will display Mel's emblem when you touch it. However, the episode's final and only boss involves Dru betraying Mel to prove himself stronger. But despite this, these gameplay elements still apply.
- Leitmotif: Happy by Pharrell Williams is used in Stage 2's music and also serves as the End Level Results jingle.
- Minions March from the original movie's OST is also used a few times.
- Missed the Recital: The driving force behind the second stage, where Gru realizes he's late for his daughters' dance recital after getting a call from his mother.
- Put on a Bus to Hell: Edith and Margo spend most of the game frozen in carbonite.
- Suddenly Speaking: Classic Gru has one line at the end of the game after defeating the final boss when he was silent for most of the adventure.
- The Unfought: Averted. Unlike in Sonic Forces, all the villains are fought at least once though El Macho's fight can hardly be called a fight.
- Video Game Cruelty Potential: Granted, you are a Villain Protagonist, so it's not entirely uncalled for, but in Episode Dru, you can choose to knock out El Macho at the start of each stage except for the boss where the minions appear instead when he's just there to sell you items under Mel's orders.
