- Children Voicing Children: Max is voiced by a young boy in most seasons.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: Max is voiced by a female in the French, Spanish, Brazilian and Polish dubs. In the UK dub, Lynn Cleckner voices both Ruby and Max.
- Dawson Casting: In the first two seasons, 25-year-old Samantha Morton voiced 7-year-old Ruby.
- Cross-Regional Voice Acting: While the series was mostly recorded in Toronto, Ruby was initially voiced by the British-based Samantha Morton for the first two seasons.
- Died During Production: Barely avoided by Kay Hawtrey, who voiced Grandma, as she passed away in June 2021, a year after the series ended for good.
- Fake American: British Samantha Morton as Ruby.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Season 1 and part of Season 2 fall into this territory, with Samantha Morton dubbing over Katie Griffin's voice in all post-2003 airings and releases of the season's episodes.
- No Dub for You: Surprisingly, while the show got a Japanese release on YouTube and on DVD, the English voice acting is left intact. Currently, the show's Japanese release is a Sub-only one.
- No Export for You: For some strange reason, while the show made it to countries like Latin America, Spain, France and Germany, some of the episodes based on the original books still haven't been translated in those countries.
- One-Book Author: Rebecca Peters' only major acting role was voicing Ruby in Season 3-5.
- The Other Darrin: Ruby, Martha, Roger, Mr. Huffington, and Max were given new voices in the later seasons.
- The Other Marty: Katie Griffin voiced Ruby in early airings of Season 1, but Griffin's voiced was later redubbed by Samantha Morton.
- Self-Adaptation: Rosemary Wells was directly involved with the show's production and worked closely with Nelvana during it's entire run.
- Series Hiatus: The show stopped making new episodes in 2007 and got canceled for a short time. It later returned in 2009 with new episodes starting to air with new voice actors and ended again in 2013, the result of its production companies (Silver Lining Productions and Chorion) going under. The show returned once more in 2016 with episodes that finally introduce the audience to the parents.
- Uncredited Role: For the first five seasons, the end credits only listed the voice actors for the titular characters, Louise, and Grandma. This meant other characters like Valerie, the Huffingtons, and Roger went uncredited. Averted in the sixth and seventh seasons, which credit all the voice actors plus their characters.
- Word of God: Wells' explanation for why we don't see Max and Ruby's parents. She has gone on record saying that children resolve their conflicts differently when they are on their own; without their parents present, Max and Ruby settle their differences in a humorous and entertaining way. To date, though, she has not provided an explanation for why it was later decided to start including them.
- Write Who You Know: Max and Ruby were both based on Wells' young daughters.
