The government discovers that wizards exist, and that the Russos are a family of said wizards. Government agents swoop in and capture the entire Russo family, bringing them to a secret government base. It's up to the family to figure out how to escape and save the rest of the wizarding world.
Tropes in this episode:
- Darker and Edgier: While there are still moments of comedy, the episode is a bit darker, as it shows the Russos being abducted by government agents, locked up in a facility, and interrogated.
- Defiant Captive: When Alex is brought in for interrogation, she eats the scientist's lunch, belches in the agent's face, and says she's not telling them anything.
- Intimidation Failure: Played for Laughs. The agent and scientist are trying to interrogate the Russo kids for information on magic and the wizarding world. Unfortunately for them, they start with Max, who is too ditzy to realize that he's being interrogated.Agent: Look, wizard, we want to know how your powers work!
Scientist: Yeah, is there a power core somewhere? Are the powers in your wand? Do you plug yourself in at night?
Max: Kind of. I have to use an electric blanket in the winter because it gets really cold at night. My dad doesn't like to turn on the heat. In fact, he makes us all gain a few pounds in the winter to keep heating costs down.
Scientist: (writing) Wizards get fat in the winter...
Agent: Don't write that down!
Scientist: That's what he said!
Agent: He also said he was an armpit! - Kidnapped for Experimentation: The Russos are abducted so the government can learn about magic. Downplayed in that the worst thing that happens to them is that they're interrogated for information on wizards.
- Minion with an F in Evil: The scientist turns out to have been Good All Along and helps the Russos escape the facility. According to him, he never signed up for capturing and potentially experimenting on an entire race of people.Scientist: I wasn't told I was studying wizards, I was supposed to be studying lizards!
