Ominous Walk

Go To

Basic Trope: Few better ways exist to intimidate the enemy than a slow walk.

  • Straight: At the start of every fight, Adam makes it a point to slowly advance towards his enemy, which often psyches them out due to such a large foe being completely unwavering in his advance.
  • Exaggerated: Adam walks so slowly that he can't even move a few inches without pausing, and not only that, but he gives the enemy as many free hits as imaginable. Even if they do take the opportunity, each and every strike is given a No-Sell.
  • Downplayed: Adam sort of walks towards the enemy, and while he's moving a lot faster than normal, it's still slow enough to scare them.
  • Justified: Adam knows that walking as slowly as possible towards his target is a really good indicator that he really doesn't care about what they throw at him, because it sure as hell ain't going to be enough.
  • Inverted: Breaking out into a full sprint towards the enemy is seen as laughable, nonthreatening, and completely harmless.
  • Subverted: Adam's enemy isn't scared of him even if he walks slowly towards them.
  • Double Subverted: The instant they try to beat Adam down in order to get the charade over with, he doesn't even flinch, and now his slow walk's starting to spook them out.
  • Parodied: Snails are often seen as the scariest creatures alive, only beaten out by sloths and other notoriously slow creatures, simply because of the fact that slowness equates scariness.
  • Zig-Zagged: Walking slowly can either be intimidating or not, and so can breaking out into a full sprint.
  • Averted: Walking slowly is just walking slowly. No intimidation in sight.
  • Lampshaded: "Yeah, taking it real slow here. What's the matter, you scared?"
  • Invoked: Adam intentionally does this as a part of Just Toying with Them.
  • Exploited: Adam's intentional sluggish pace allows his enemy to start running away, which he benefits from Victory Through Intimidation, and which his enemy benefits from by getting away from the scene as fast as possible before they get hurt.
  • Defied: Adam decides that slow walking won't cut it, and thus breaks out into a full body sprint.
  • Discussed:
Adam: "Is walking slowly towards the enemy gonna spook them or something?"
Bob: "With your size, yeah, it really would."
  • Conversed:
Charlie: "Gotta admit, it's a little silly seeing someone intentionally walk slowly as their opponent stares them down."
—>Dan: "Well, apply it right, and maybe it might be one helluva intimidation tactic, especially if you're a big guy like Adam."
  • Played for Laughs: Adam tries this, but trips and ends up making a fool out of himself.
  • Played for Horror: Adam does this as he eerily stalks Bob throughout the first half of the horror film, which culminates in Adam breaking into Bob's apartment and savagely beating him to half-death with a sledgehammer, only finishing him off with his bare fists and tossing him out the window.
