A concurrent point = one player connected to one room at the same instant. Billed on your monthly peak, not the sum.

How metering works

Concurrent points (CCU)

Your tier ceiling is the highest number of players connected at once in a month. Two players in two rooms = two points. Idle, disconnected players cost nothing.

Messages are free

Send as many lines as your tick rate allows — we don't meter messages or bandwidth. The tick rate (5–30 Hz) is the only throughput limit, and it scales with your tier.

Rooms are free

Open as many planes as you want. A room costs nothing until a point joins it, and is reclaimed automatically when the last player leaves.

Questions about pricing

What happens if I exceed my concurrent points?+

Nothing breaks. We never drop players mid-game. You'll get an email at 80% and 100% of your ceiling, and a prompt to upgrade. Sustained overage for more than 48 hours bumps you to the next tier — never a surprise per-unit charge.

Do you charge for bandwidth or messages?+

No. Messages and bandwidth are unmetered. The only throughput limit is your tick rate, which scales with your tier. This is the whole point of pricing by concurrent points: your bill tracks how many people are playing, not how chatty your game is.

Can I use Plot for a game jam and not pay?+

Yes — that's exactly what the Jam tier is for. 50 concurrent points and all SDKs, free forever, no credit card. Most jam games never outgrow it.

What counts as a monthly active user?+

A unique player who connects to at least one room in a calendar month. Reconnects by the same player don't double-count. MAU is a soft ceiling — like CCU, we warn before we ever bill.

Is the SDK really open source?+

The client SDKs are MIT-licensed and on GitHub. The managed backend — the part that runs on Cloudflare's edge — is our hosted service. You can read every line of what runs in your game.

Can I self-host?+

Not today. Plot is a managed service built specifically on Cloudflare Durable Objects; that's what makes the latency and pricing work. If self-hosting is a hard requirement, an open-source toolkit like Colyseus is a better fit, and we'll tell you so.
