The Contributors Team of the Wikimedia Foundation's Product department build collaborative, inclusive tools for creating and editing free knowledge.
We work on extending and improving the editing tools used at Wikimedia – Editing-team who work on content tools, Growth-Team, Language and Product Localization tools for translation, content and communication, and the Parsing Team. We exist to support new and existing editors alike across desktop, tablet and phone platforms.
It's 2025 and in my testing of editing in Firefox, both on Android tablets and mobile this issue isn't present anymore.
I cannot speak for the distant past that has faded from my recollection, but Editing-team certainly works to bring it into our triage channel.

The original bug report from 2016 sounds like a mobile link to action=edit§ion=new was once upon a time treated as if it was a link to action=edit§ion=0. That bug was fixed by https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/MobileFrontend/+/906761 in 2023 (part of T334263).

The desktop version has some Javascript that runs once the file is selected. (…)
This Javascript doesn't run in the mobile version, probably because it doesn't have target=mobile.

No major updates since 2015, author is no longer active and not actionable.
