794.141. Vehicle lamps. SCAMMELL LORRIES. Ltd.. FLEXIBLE LAMPS, Ltd., FLEWITT, G. L., and WATTS, L. D. Jan. 30, 1956, No. 2900/56. Classes 75(3) and 75(4) [Also in Group XXXVI] A detachable sign for a vehicle having more than one indicator independently illuminated by an electric lamp, for instance a detachable number plate 2 having a tail lamp 5 and a stop lamp 6, comprises concentrically arranged contacts 12. 14 on the number plate, insulated from each other and connected to the lamps 5, 6. further concentrically arranged contacts 20, 22 insulated from each other and mounted on a member 8 adapted to be mounted on the vehicle, the arrangement being that when the number plate is detachably fixed to the member 8 the contacts 20, 22 co-operate with and extend coaxially with the contacts 12, 14 to provide an independent electrical circuit for each lamp. The contacts 12, 14 are arranged in a threaded sleeve 9 secured in an aperture in the number plate by a nut 10 and the other contacts 20, 22 are arranged in an insulated sleeve 23 mounted in an aperture in the member 8. The outer engaging contacts 14, 22 have male and female countersinks 28, 29 and the inner contact 12 on the number plate has a spring-loaded stud 31 which engages in a cup-bearing 32 in the end of the inner contact 20 of the member 8. The contacts 12, 14 of the number plate are connected to the central contacts 17, 19 of the lampholders 4, 4a, the outsides of the lampholders being connected to a plate 37 connected to the number plate by a bolt 39. The number plate is clamped to the member 8 by cam means 7.
