Abstract

702,025. Preparation of paper pulp. ARONOVSKY, S. T., and LATHROP, E. C. Feb. 1, 1952, No. 2689/52. Class 96 Cellulosic materials, e.g. straw, flax, hemp, cotton stalks, bagasse, jute, reeds, sisal, coarse ground wood, chopped wood shavings &c. are cooked and pulped in alkaline liquid, e.g. dilute caustic soda solution, optionally containing also sodium sulphide, at up to 100‹C., whilst subjecting them to repeated impacts, without cutting or tearing the cellulose fibres. As illustrated cooking &c. is done in a tank 1 open at the top, and having a rotor 17 at the bottom, and fixed blades 18 on the walls. On the upper surface of the rotor 17 are two rings of blades or vanes 17a &c. for impacting and circulating the material which is drained through an outlet 10 with a valve 22. The rotor is driven by a motor 3, packing for its shaft 6 being adjustably compressed at 12.
