Abstract

Learning Pancasila and Citizenship Education ( PPKn ) in schools often faces challenges, especially in attracting students' attention. Students often feel that PPKn learning is boring because of the excessive focus on memorizing facts, names of figures, and historical events. To overcome this problem, interesting and interactive learning innovations are important. This article proposes the use of game-based learning media Treasure Hunt developed through an Android application, as a solution to increase student engagement and interest in PPKn lessons . This method combines technology, group competition, and fact-based learning to create a more active and enjoyable learning atmosphere. This learning model, which integrates the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method, allows students to collaborate in groups while completing challenges based on PPKn material . By using an Android-based application, learning can be more focused on understanding concepts and developing critical thinking skills. The expected results are increased motivation and student learning outcomes through more innovative and enjoyable learning, in accordance with the demands of the 2013 Curriculum which emphasizes active student participation in the learning process.

Abstract

Anxiety plays a big role in impeding students to speak. Thus, the current community service aims to enhance the students’ confidence and speaking skills to speak English. The activity recruited all fresh semester students of Cipta Wacana Christian University. Vocabulary building games (flash cards, role playing games, interactive story telling), language workshop, peer mentoring, and online platforms were implemented in the study. The results unpacked that the activities may significantly ameliorate the students’ confidence and speaking ability. Moreover, one of the students depicted that he went to a Sunday market to look for a native speaker and practice his speaking skills, implying the significance impact of the program. Finally, the authors wish that the program can be upgraded to achieve English holistic learning.

Abstract

English plays an important role as international language among other languages. Speaking as one of important English skills is considered important to be taught. Speaking is skill that taught with other language skills. In fact, speaking is not an easy skill to be mastered. Most of junior high school students are unable to speak English well. One of alternative to help teacher to create natural communication is by using picture. The design of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which aims at solving problem experienced by classroom teacher to increase the students’ speaking ability by using describing as technique (Aqib 2006), as cited in research Clark (1972). This research has done in two cycles. The objective of this study is to describe how wholesome describing picture can improve speaking ability of seventh grade students in SMP Wahid Hasyim Malang. The researcher hopes that the result of this study useful either theoretically and practically to motivate students and teacher creative in learning process especially in speaking class. the teaching and learning process becomes much better. Before implementing picture technique the students have low self-esteem, fear of making mistakes, shyness and lack of motivation. After implementing the technique they feel confident, did not shy again, and talk with high voice. It also brings good impact on increasing the learning process and they can work as a group. The result on language function showed that in describing picture they speak with occasional hesitation, use adequate vocabulary, use comprehensible pronunciation, and use complex sentence in asking responding.

Abstract

Think-aloud is one of the transactional strategies that joint process of teachers and students working together to construct understandings of text as they interact with it. The aim of this thesis to investigate that do students who were taught by think aloud strategy has better achievement in the reading narrative text. Toward 23 total students of eight grade of Mts Al-azhar Malang, consist of 11 Males and 12 females of the sample, the researchers conduct the experiment research by distributing 20 pre and post questions of narrative text test. In finding, the mean of total reading test score of 23 students before being taught by using think aloud strategy is (55.43). After getting treatment, the mean score of students’ reading is (71.30). It means that the students’ score is improved. It means that there is significant effect before and after being taught using think aloud strategy toward students reading achievement of narrative text. Based on the result, it can be concluded that think aloud was effective strategy in teaching reading comprehension.
