Abstract

Anemia is a common problem that often occurs in developing countries including Indonesia, most anemia is caused by hemoglobin levels less than 11 g/dl. Hemoglobin is a complex protein that binds iron (Fe) and is present in erythrocytes. Low hemoglobin levels are caused by iron deficiency, folic acid deficiency and chronic disease. The increase in hemoglobin levels with iron and vitamin C can be higher than with iron alone. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has long been consumed by the public as a medicine to increase blood. This fruit contains organic acids, protein, minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron as well as vitamin C. This study aims to determine the effectivity of giving red dragon fruit juice (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on hemoglobin levels in medical personnel at Amalia Medika Hospital Pangkalan Kerinci. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design, in which hemoglobin levels were measured before giving red dragon fruit juice and after the respondent was given red dragon fruit juice 4 times in 30 days. The results showed that there was a significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after administration of red dragon fruit juice with p=0.000 (α=0.05) in the paired sample t test. This means that there is an effect of giving dragon fruit juice on the hemoglobin level of medical staff at Amalia Medika Hospital in Pangkalan Kerinci, namely an increase in hemoglobin levels after being given dragon fruit juice of 2.61 g/dL to the respondent.

Abstract

Nosocomial infection is a systemic or local condition caused by a reaction to an infectious agent such as bacteria that occurs more than 48 hours after the patient is admitted to the hospital. One of the nosocomial infections is post-surgery wound infection which is a common problem that causes morbidity and mortality in hospitals. The challenge for doctors who treat infected patients is the accuracy of antibiotic therapy, which slows down the healing process of infection in postoperative wounds. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of antibiotics to bacteria that cause infections in post-surgery patient wounds which can be recommended as definitive therapy. This study is a retrospective cohort conducted descriptively during October 2020 with a total of 75 samples. The results of the study showed that antibiotic sensitivity to gram-negative bacteria was amikacin (91%), meropenem (81%), gentamycin (56%), ciprofloxacin (42%), cefepime (39%), cefoperazone sulbactam (39%), cotrimoxazole (28%), ceftazidime 25%, aztreonam (18%), ceftriaxone (14%), ampicillin-sulbactam (11%) and ampicillin (2%). Meanwhile, sensitivity to gram-positive bacteria is vancomycin (83%), linezolid (61%), gentamycin (61%), clindamycin (39%), erythomycin (39%), levofloxacin (33%), ciprofloxacin (28%), cotrimoxazole (22%) and ampicillin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone (17%), respectively. Antibiotics with a sensitivity of >80% that can be recommended as definitive therapy for post-operative wound infections are amikacin (91%) and meropenem (81%) for gram-negative bacteria and vancomycin (83%) for gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract

Elementary school age is a period of rapid growth and development, so the need for nutrients increases significantly. Balanced nutritional food intake is essential to ensure healthy and active child growth and development. One of the messages of balanced nutrition is to improve the consumption of fruits and vegetables by 300-400 grams (3-4 servings) per person per day. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards fruit and vegetable consumption behavior in grade V students of SDN 101866, Batang Kuis District. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design, where the independent variables (knowledge and attitudes about fruit and vegetable consumption behavior) and the dependent variable (student behavior of fruit and vegetable consumption collected at the same time using 3 types of questionnaires, namely knowledge, attitude, and behavior questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that there is a relationship between knowledge and fruit and vegetable consumption behavior in Grade V Students of SDN 101866, Batang Kuis District with a p-value of 0.022 (<0.05) which means that knowledge reflects student behavior about fruit and vegetable consumption. There is a relationship between attitudes and fruit and vegetable consumption behavior with a p-value of 0.025 (<0.05) which means that students who have good attitudes are followed by good behavior by students about fruit and vegetable consumption. It can be concluded that good knowledge and attitudes of students will show good behavior about fruit and vegetable consumption.

Abstract

Regular handwashing is the first 5M health protocol and is effective in preventing the transmission of viruses and diseases. However, mobility and activities cause many to neglect to always have soap on hand when travelling. For this reason, a simple innovation for the use of soap is needed, namely by using paper soap. Paper soap is much more practical in its use and easy to carry anywhere. Based on the survey of the service team, several problems were found, such as students who were often absent from school due to illness, students' low understanding of hand washing with soap, and students' lack of knowledge in making paper soap. The purpose of this community service is to improve students' knowledge and skills in applying the six steps of handwashing with soap and to improve students' skills in making paper soap with natural ingredients. This community service was carried out by providing counselling on the importance of hand washing, assistance in making paper soap from natural ingredients to students. The results obtained from this service are an increase in knowledge and creativity of students who initially did not know how to make paper soap to know, and increased student understanding of the steps of good and correct hand washing.
