Abstract

This article investigates the cultural pursuits of the local populace within the traditional Geurugok livestock market located in the Bireuen District of Aceh. The customary markets, at the very least, depict the communal engagements within the adjacent social sphere. Diverse social exchanges can foster relationships among community members during their time at the market. Through the utilization of the Ethnophotography approach, visual imagery is employed as a data source, categorized, and scrutinized to extract culturally significant meanings aligned with the contextual aspects of space and time. The findings of this study have yielded favorable outcomes, as the depiction of the cultural significance of the community's activities within the traditional livestock markets has highlighted the systematic arrangement of these activities. This interconnection is intertwined with the market's physical layout, which offers spatial and temporal patterns for the activities undertaken, ultimately forging a cultural environment that profoundly influences their lived experiences

Abstract

This article examines the competition between minimarket retailers and local grocery stores from a sociological perspective. It explores two main patterns of daily shopping habits, which highlight a complex competition for consumer attention. The author aims to demonstrate that this contestation is linked to social change and the business strategies employed by each type of business. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, conducted in Lhokseumawe City, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review, and analyzed descriptively by reducing, verifying, and interpreting to identify key themes and insights. The findings show that the competition between these two shopping patterns is driven by changes in consumer behavior. Minimarkets succeed by offering convenience and more structured services, while local grocery stores remain competitive by providing services rooted in cultural values and fostering close community ties.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the complexity of the realities surrounding the resolution of the conflict that occurred in Aceh, Indonesia related to the transformation of the Aceh Darul Islam movement and ecological sustainability in the development of oil palm in Aceh Tamiang Regency. This resolution in the form of oil palm development in Aceh Tamiang was carried out as empowerment of former DI/TII troops to reduce the occurrence of armed conflict in Aceh. On the other hand, the existence of palm oil plantations of former DI/TII troops in Aceh Tamiang raises concern about the reality of the impact of ecological sustainability. This study was carried out using qualitative methods, analyzed using sociological law theory. Data was collected by means of interviews and documentation studies. The results showed that The conflict transformation of the Aceh Darul Islam movement focused on the reintegration of ex-combatants into civil society with an emphasis on social, economic, and political aspects. This process involved economic empowerment, particularly through the oil palm plantation programme, to achieve peace and improve welfare in Aceh. The central government engaged in diplomacy with former DI/TII elites, integrating them in the development of oil palm plantations to maintain stability. Furthermore, it can be asserted that in the perspective of law sociology, the transformation of conflict resolution is the presence of the state that is able to create peace and social harmonisation through ecological sustainability with the release of green land and environmental management. Overall, conflict resolution efforts in the form of economic empowerment, environmental preservation and social order are key elements in building peace and sustainability in Aceh.
