Abstract

Students' communication skills must be empowered by habituating discussion to increase learning and understanding. This habit can be trained by applying Lesson Study (LS) activities in Problem-Based Learning (PBL). This study analyzed the effectiveness of PBL learning with LS activities in improving cognitive learning outcomes and communication skills of Masters of Biology Education students at Universitas Negeri Malang. This type of research uses a mixed method with a quantitative research approach and a one-group-pretest-posttest research design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data collection uses test, non-test, observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics t-tests. The results showed that the PBL learning syntax had been implemented well, and there were significant differences in the learning outcomes of the two cycles, with a significance value of 0.000 (cycle I) and 0.001 (cycle II) 0.05. Furthermore, the results of student communication skills also experienced an increase in scores from cycle I to cycle II by 0.5%. This shows that PBL learning with LS activities can effectively improve students' communication skills and can be recommended for learning.

Abstract

The Teacher Professional Education (TPE) Program aims to train qualified teachers by providing structured training and learning programs through Field Experience Practice (EP), which was implemented in schools in two cycles: EP 1 and EP 2, using the Lesson Study format. Both cycles of EP involved 1 tutor teacher, 2 observer teachers, 1 supervising lecturer, and 5 TPE students. Each cycle goes through 3 phases: Plan, Do, and See. The results of profiling showed that the students' characteristics were kinesthetic and audio-visual. The learning model used is problem-based learning, and based on observations of independent learning activities and collaboration in completing their assignments, all deficiencies are addressed during reflection activities. In the final stage of the learning activities, each party involved in the Lesson Study activities obtained valuable lessons. The supervisors received insights to apply improvements to courses related to the TPE program

Abstract

Learning assessment in the Independent Curriculum aims to provide an overview of student learning progress in cognitive, skill, and attitudinal areas. Diagnostic assessment is a preliminary step that must be conducted before teachers design learning activities. Problem identification in the field indicates that teachers at SMPN 1 Mempura face challenges in developing quality diagnostic assessments tested for validity and reliability. Therefore, SMPN 1 Mempura requires assistance and training in implementing the Independent Curriculum, specifically in the design, implementation, and evaluation of diagnostic assessments. The service activities were conducted over six meetings, totaling 32 learning hours. These activities followed structured steps: preparation, implementation, evaluation, and measuring success through indicators. This training was deemed successful in enhancing teachers' understanding and practical skills in compiling and analyzing diagnostic assessments, which are crucial for implementing the Independent Curriculum effectively.

Abstract

Minangkabau ethnic has rich natural and cultural resources. The Minangkabau ethnic community in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, possesses rich traditional knowledge in utilizing local plant species as ingredients in their culinary heritage. This study aimed to document the ethnobotanical use of food plants and examine their phytochemical properties to assess their potential as functional foods. Ethnobotanical data were collected using open-ended interviews and field observations involving key informants from various Nagari (villages) selected using purposive sampling methods. Phytochemical tests were conducted to identify alkaloids, saponins, steroids, tannins, and triterpenoids in the plants used. The study identified 43 plant species belonging to 29 families used as the main ingredients in 20 types of traditional culinary with plant species are dominated by Fabaceae. Leaves were the most frequently used plant parts, followed by fruits, stems, flowers, and tubers. These ingredients were sourced from wild and cultivated plants growing in yards, gardens, and fields. Phytochemical screening of  plants revealed the presence of secondary metabolites including alkaloids (13 species), flavonoids (26), saponins (21), tannins (21), triterpenoids (16), and steroids (8). The findings of our study indicate that traditional Minangkabau food plants are not only culturally significant but also possess medicinal potential, warranting further scientific exploration and conservation of local knowledge.
