Abstract

Abstract

By using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) paradigm, EUCS is a model or method used to measure the level of user satisfaction with an information system by considering several indicators such as content, accuracy, format, ease and timeliness. This study attempts to assess the level of user satisfaction with Valery , a virtual resource library at the Bandar Lampung University Library that has a unique voice feature that makes it interesting to study. By using quantitative techniques, this study is descriptive. In this study, 88 participants were surveyed. Information was collected using a survey using a Likert scale. This study uses the mean and grand mean formulas for data analysis. Finally, the evaluation findings are presented on an interval scale. By using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) model, the Bandar Lampung University Library evaluated Valery , a virtual resource library, and found that users were generally satisfied with its system with an average score of 4.51. By using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) model, Valery  (Virtual Resources Library) of Bandar Lampung University Library received a "Very High" rating in the interval range from 4.20 to 5.0. Suggestions and input for further research are: first, it is expected to conduct research with the same theme but with different perception indicators in order to expand again regarding research and the use of the Valery  application, for example reading access by other users: second, the phenomenon of the number of students is inversely proportional to the number of Valery  digital collections and inversely proportional to the number of users who have installed Valery

Abstract

Understanding the process of information seeking is essential to support the effectiveness of undergraduate thesis writing among students. This study aims to analyze the information-seeking behavior of Library and Information Science students from the 2021 cohort who are currently working on their final projects, using David Ellis’s model as the analytical framework. A qualitative approach was employed through interviews with eleven students. The results show that most respondents engaged in nearly all stages of Ellis’s model, including starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting, verifying, and ending. Starting and browsing were the most frequently performed stages, while chaining and verifying were less consistently applied. These variations were influenced by students’ information literacy levels, individual search strategies, and access to information sources. Several challenges were identified, such as lack of training in using academic databases, time constraints, and academic workload. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing students' information literacy through structured training or librarian-led guidance to support more effective information seeking in thesis writing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the librarians’ competencies in selecting library collection and how to improve these competencies. The method used in this research is literature study. Based on this research, it can be explained that the librarians’ competencies in selecting library collection consist of having knowledge of several things, namely their institutional programs, the collection development policies, the needs of their users, the quality of various types of collections, the credibility of publishers and providers of electronic information sources, the ability of the authors, the use of various selection tools, as well as having knowledge about information technology development plus having skills in communicating and in using various types of collection. Furthermore, to improve the competencies, librarians need to do these things: follow several trainings; read more books to increase knowledge; conduct user studies; learn how to use the selection tools; study the quality of library materials; learn everything about book publishing; seek knowledge about book editors and producers of audio-visual materials; discover what publishers who produce the best material for libraries by researching their catalogs and advertisements; and examine the national bibliography and the book trade bibliographies.

Abstract

A virtual reference service is a service where librarians and users can communicate with each other in real time over the Internet. This study aims to analyze the virtual reference service 'Ask a Librarian' as a service with a real-time system, which is one of the library strategies for providing reference services to users without limited space and time. This study uses a qualitative approach. This article is based on literature studies that support the subject. The study result shows that the virtual reference service 'Ask a Librarian' makes it easy for reference librarians to provide information on user questions remotely, the quality of the information on this feature is very credible and quality because user questions about any library information are answered directly by the local reference librarian. With the real-time system used in this service, the completion time of activity, responsiveness, or latency is an important aspect of system quality. The presence of these services is expected to provide reference services to users without space constraints in a short time.

Abstract

The Legal Documentation and Information Network Library (JDIH) of Lampung Province faced challenges in managing legal document classification manually, which often resulted in inefficiency and errors. The library began implementing the 23rd edition of the Electronic Dewey Decimal Classification (e-DDC) system in May 2023 to address this issue. This study aims to examine the implementation of e-DDC in improving the efficiency of document classification in the library. A qualitative research approach was employed using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four library staff members and six users, supported by observations and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of e-DDC positively impacted collection management, including faster classification processes, improved accuracy, and effective integration with the library management system (SLiMS). Users also reported easier access to and retrieval of legal materials. However, several obstacles were identified, such as the initial lack of understanding among staff, limited technological infrastructure, challenges in transitioning from a manual to a digital system, and insufficient user orientation regarding the e-DDC system. Key findings indicate that successful implementation is supported by adequate staff training, strong managerial support, and the availability of appropriate technological tools. On the other hand, additional strategies are needed, such as providing user guidance and improving technological infrastructure. In conclusion, the 23rd edition of e-DDC has proven effective in enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of legal information, although continuous improvements are required to optimize its use.
