Abstract

This paper aims to discuss construction of nationalism contained in Indonesian novels preindependence, especially Student Hijo and Salah Asuhan using perspective hegemony Gramsci’s theory. The analysis showed that both the novel construct of ideology of nationalism against colonialism in the Dutch colonial era. Both novels also showed his duties as a battle field of ideology of nationalism against colonialism.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat Kakak Beradik Tange dan Berei dari Nusa Tenggara Timur. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah teknik baca dan catat. Data yang didapat dianalisis menggunakan analisis konten. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat tersebut adalah religius, jujur, disiplin, kerja keras, kreatif, bersahabat/komunikatif, peduli sosial, toleransi, cinta damai, menghargai prestasi, dan mandiri. Nilai yang paling dominan ditunjukkan dalam cerita rakyat ini adalah toleransi. This study aimed to describe the character education values contained in the folklore Kakak Beradik Tange dan Berei from Nusa Tenggara Timur. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Technique of collecting data is read and noted technique. The data obtained were analyzed using content analysis. The result of the research shown that the character education values contained in the folklore is religious, honest, discipline, hard work, creative, friendly/communicative, social care, tolerance, peace loving, appreciate achievement, and self-reliant. The most dominant value shown in this folklore is tolerance

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap gambaran perlawanan simbolis terhadap hegemoni patriarki melalui pendidikan dan peran perempuan di arena publik dalam novel-novel Indonesia dengan kritik sastra feminis. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, secara purposif dipilih sejumlah novel periode 1920 sampai 1980-an yang secara intens mengangkat isu pendidikan bagi perempuan dan peran perempuan di ranah publik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perlawanan terhadap hegemoni patriarki dalam bentuk perjuangan para perempuan untuk mendapatkan kesempatan menempuh pendidikan yang masih digunakan untuk mempersiapkan tugas-tugas domestiknya, sebagai ibu rumah tangga (Azab dan Sengsara dan Sitti Nurbaya), pendidikan bagi perempuan yang mempersiapkan dirinya ke dalam pekerjaan di sektor publik, terutama sebagai guru (Layar Terkembang, Kehilangan Mestika, Widyawati, dan Manusia Bebas), yang dilanjutkan dengan masuknya perempuan terpelajar tersebut dalam organisasi perempuan untuk memperjuangan emansipasi perempuan dan perjuangan menuju kemerdekaan Indonesia (Layar Terkembang, Manusia Bebas, dan Burung-burung Manyar). Abstract: This study is aimed at exposing the depiction of symbolic resistance of patriarchal domination through education and the role of women in public domain and in the novels of Indonesia by feminist literary criticism. To achieve these objectives, a number of novel from 1920 until 1980s that raised the issue of intensive education for women and the role of women in the public domain were purposively selected. The result shows the resistance to the hegemony of patriarchy in the form of women?s struggle to get a chance to still use their education to prepare for domestic tasks, as housewives (Kehilangan Mestika and Sitti Nurbaya), education for women who are preparing themselves to work in a public sector, primarily as a teacher (Layar Terkembang, Kehilangan Mestika, Widyawati, and Manusia Bebas), continuing with the entry of women educated in women?s organizations to women?s emancipation and the struggle towards independence of Indonesia (Layar Terkembang, Manusia Bebas, and Burung-burung Manyar). Abstract

(Title: Reading the Value of Humanity in Novel Autobiography). This article aims at revealing and elaborating the values of humanity embedded in the authobiography novels by Indonesian writers. The study is rooted in the fact that authobigraphy novels are currently burgeoning in Indonesia. Four novels selected for this study are Kenang- kenangan Hidup (Hamka), Habibie-Ainun (B.J. Habibie), Kehilangan Mestika (Hamidah), and Manusia Bebas (Soewarsih Djojopuspito). From the authobiography novels, readers, young generation in particular, can learn the values of life that the authors make as their vision to live life and its creativity processes, which cannot be separated from historical, social and political contexts. Through their authobiography novels, the authors express not only their conscience, emotion, and ideas, but also the ideology that they hold to live life and to realize their vision in the future.Key word: authobiography, humanity, creativity processes

Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the manifestations of environmental wisdom and (2) the role of the characters in environmental preservation contained in the novel Sebuah Wilayah yang Tidak Ada di Google Earth by Pandu Hamzah. This research is included in the type of descriptive qualitative research. The data source of this research is the novel Sebuah Wilayah yang Tidak Ada di Google Earth by Pandu Hamzah published by Literati in 2015. This research is focused on the manifestation of environmental wisdom and the role of characters in the novel by using ecocritical analysis. The data collection techniques are the technique of reading and taking notes. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative. The validity of the data is obtained through semantic validity and intrarater reliability tests. The data were analyzed with description, categorization, and data presentation. The results of the study indicate the following matters. First, the manifestation of environmental wisdom found in the novel includes nine principles of environmental ethics, including (1) respect for nature; (2) the attitude of responsibility towards nature; (3) cosmic solidarity; (4) the principle of compassion and care for nature; (5) the principle of no harm; (6) the principle of living simply and in harmony with nature; (7) the principle of justice; (8) democratic principles; and (9) the principle of moral integrity. Among these principles, the most dominant principle is the principle of respect for nature. Second, the role of the characters in environmental preservation contained in the novel is divided into two categories, namely the role of pro-environment and non pro-environment.

Abstract

This article is about a study conducted to improve students' attitude towards literature teaching and also to improve their appreciation of literature. The study was conducted on students in Class C of the second grade of the Yogyakarta Ninth Junior High School in the 2000/2001 academic year. It was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four steps, namely, planning, implementing treatment, monitoring and observing, and analyzing and reflecting. Data were collected by means ofobservations, field notes, tests, questionnaires on  appreciation of literature, interviews, and tasks. The results of the study show that (1) the application of a literature teaching model that is appreciative and receptive and with practice in literature analysis could develop students' attitude towards literature teaching and (2) the application of such a model could develop students' appreciation of literature.

Abstract

This research is aimed at describing and understanding (1) homo­sexuality phenomena in the current Indonesian novels, (2) the relationship between homosexuality phenomena with the existence of homosexual community in Indonesia, and(3) the relationship between homosexuality phenomena with feminist school. To achieve these aims, six novels are analyzed. They are (1) Larung by Ayu Utami, (2) Supernova by Dee (Dewi) Lestari, (3) Mahadewi Mahadewi (4) Garis Tepi Seorang Lesbian by Herlinatien, (5) Tabularasa by Ratih Kumala, and (6) Dadaisme by Dewi Sartika. The result of the research shows that (1) homosexuality phenomena in the current Indonesian novels are reflected in theme and character problems, (2) these phenomena are related to the existence of homosexual community in Indonesia, whose members already demand that their existence be recognized in society, and (3) these phenomena are related to feminism, especially radical feminism that influences the authors’ creativity.

Abstract

Who was the woman? This question was a basic question that tried to understand who, how, and where the woman was positioned in his community. The Geni Jora novel by Abidah El-Khalieqy was a novel that tried to question this matter. In this novel was expressed by the gender construction that had a background the Islam religion that placed the woman as the second class tha always must yield so that the available life order could go well. By using the perspective of Islam feminism, was expressed that the construction gender this was no in accordance with the spirit of the Islam religion (Al-Qur'an) tha stressed justice and equality gender. Therefore, the construction gender this was opposed by the Kejora leading figure with always evaluated and showed his achievement so as to be able to achieve gender equality.

Abstract

            The patriarchal system which is dominant in most ethnic groups in Indonesia has brought up narratives that favor men. As a result, men are the main characters and heroes in a number of Indonesian folk literature, whereas the position and role of women tend to be marginalized. This study tries to understand two female figures, Queen Kalinyamat and Dewi Rengganis, who were transformed in Indonesian novels. In folklore both tend to be marginalized because they accentuate male heroes. However, in Indonesian novels both tend to be highlighted on their position and role in society, as can be found in the novel Ratu Kalinyamat (Hadi, 2010) and Cantik Itu Luka (Kurniawan, 2004, first edition). By using a qualitative descriptive method that bases on the framework of postmodernist feminism analysis, this study tries to interpret its position and role in society. The results showed that the novels Ratu Kalinyamat and Cantik Itu Luka were written to bring back female characters that had existences as subjects who not only had power over their autonomy but were also able to exercise their power. Ratu Kalinyamat (Hadi, 2010) which transformed Queen Kalinyamat and Cantik Itu Luka (2004, first edition) which transformed Dewi Rengganis, and Dayang Sumbi showed an effort to bring back female figures who historically and in myths were considered to exist in the past. This is in line with the mission of feminist literature and feminist studies aimed at identifying the elimination and elimination of information about women in general. Keywords: feminism, women, folklore, marginalization, patriarchy MEMBERI RUANG UNTUK MEREKA YANG TERLUPAKAN:MEMBACA SOSOK RATU KALINYAMAT DAN DEWI RENGGANIS DALAM NOVEL INDONESIA Abstrak            Sistem patriarki yang dominan di sebagian besar suku bangsa di Indonesia telah memunculkan narasi-narasi yang berpihak pada laki-laki. Akibatnya, laki-laki menjadi tokoh utama dan pahlawan dalam sejumlah sastra rakyat Indonesia, sedangkan posisi dan peran perempuan cenderung terpinggirkan. Penelitian ini mencoba memahami dua sosok perempuan, Ratu Kalinyamat dan Dewi Rengganis, yang ditransformasikan dalam novel-novel Indonesia. Dalam cerita rakyat keduanya cenderung terpinggirkan karena menonjolkan pahlawan laki-laki. Namun, dalam novel-novel Indonesia keduanya cenderung menonjolkan kedudukan dan perannya dalam masyarakat, seperti yang terdapat dalam novel Ratu Kalinyamat (Hadi, 2010) dan Cantik Itu Luka (Kurniawan, 2004, edisi pertama). Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang berpijak pada kerangka analisis feminisme postmodernis, penelitian ini mencoba menginterpretasikan posisi dan perannya dalam masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Ratu Kalinyamat dan Cantik Itu Luka ditulis untuk menghadirkan kembali tokoh-tokoh perempuan yang memiliki eksistensi sebagai subjek yang tidak hanya memiliki kekuasaan atas otonominya tetapi juga mampu menjalankan kekuasaannya. Ratu Kalinyamat (Hadi, 2010) yang mentransformasikan Ratu Kalinyamat dan Cantik Itu Luka (2004, edisi pertama) yang mentransformasikan Dewi Rengganis, dan Dayang Sumbi menunjukkan upaya untuk memunculkan kembali sosok-sosok perempuan yang secara historis dan mitos dianggap ada di masa lalu. Hal ini sejalan dengan misi sastra feminis dan studi feminis yang bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi eliminasi dan eliminasi informasi tentang perempuan secara umum. Kata kunci: feminisme, perempuan, folklore, marginalisasi, patriarki

Abstract

Literary works, including in this context play scripts later performed, often go beyond mere entertainment or exhibition. Play scripts and theatrical performances as well frequently introduce particular moral lessons, educative messages, even social controls. This research aims to describe the following matters: (a) the coverage of national mass media on three performances of Tangis (Cry) by Teater Gandrik; (b) the socio-political phenomena presented in the performance; and (c) the construct of the readers or audience on the performance. The object of this research consists of a number of news or reviews of such performance covered in national mass media in 2015. To collect the data, reading and taking notes methods were applied. The validity and reliability of the data were measured by employing semantic validity as well as intra-rater and inter-rater reliabilities. The data was later categorized and analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on literary reception. There were at least 15 news or reviews compiled, signifying a considerable interest of the mass media in interpreting the performance. Almost each of these coverages discusses the social circumstance represented in the play. The issue of the conflict between KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) is one of the actual phenomena indirectly captured by the media relating to this performance. These media reportages serve as a construct established by the audience (experts) or the review creator or news reporters about Teater Gandrik, particularly on the play that crowns this group as one of top-notch Indonesian theater companies.Keywords: reception, performance, teater gandrik, mass media, social phenomenaRESPON PEMBACA TERHADAP PERTUNJUKAN DRAMA TANGIS OLEH TEATER GADRIK DALAM FENOMENA SOSIAL-POLITIK TERKINIAbstrakKarya sastra, termasuk dalam konteks ini naskah drama yang kemudian dipentaskan, seringkali lebih dari sekadar hiburan atau pameran. Naskah drama dan pertunjukan teater juga sering memperkenalkan pelajaran moral tertentu, pesan edukatif, bahkan kontrol sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hal-hal sebagai berikut: (a) liputan media massa nasional atas tiga pertunjukan Tangis (Menangis) oleh Teater Gandrik; (b) fenomena sosial politik yang dihadirkan dalam pertunjukan; dan (c) konstruk pembaca atau penonton terhadap pertunjukan. Objek penelitian ini terdiri dari sejumlah berita atau ulasan tentang pertunjukan tersebut yang diliput di media massa nasional pada tahun 2015. Untuk mengumpulkan data digunakan metode membaca dan mencatat. Validitas dan reliabilitas data diukur dengan menggunakan validitas semantik serta reliabilitas intra-penilai dan antar-penilai. Data tersebut kemudian dikategorikandan dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dengan fokus pada resepsi sastra. Sedikitnya ada 15 berita atau resensi yang dihimpun, menandakan minat media massa yang cukup besar dalam memaknai pertunjukan tersebut. Hampir setiap liputan ini membahas tentang keadaan sosial yang direpresentasikan dalam lakon tersebut. Isu konflik antara KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi) dan Polri (Polri) merupakan salah satu fenomena aktual yang secara tidak langsung ditangkap oleh media terkait kinerja tersebut. Reportase media ini menjadi konstruksi yang dibangun oleh penonton (pakar) atau pembuat resensi atau reporter berita tentang Teater Gandrik, terutama pada lakon yang menobatkan grup ini sebagai salah satu perusahaan teater terkemuka di Indonesia.Kata kunci: resepsi, pertunjukan, teater gandrik, media massa, fenomena sosial
