Abstract

Language and culture are inseparable. When people communicate to one another, they take their culture in communication; they may use the same language, but differences in accent show their register.  Language variation covers distinctions in pronunciation, grammar, or word choice within a language. It includes register and accent. This concept is reflected in the performance of Ken Arok and Ken Dedes. In the performance, the register described a group of people and their roles in the community.  It is interesting to analyze English with Javanese accents and register in the drama performance. In this performance, speaking English with  Javanese accent does not reduce the traditional values of Javanese culture.

Abstract

Every university in Indonesia requires that students who are in the final stage of the study to have the ability make up thesis about uncovering phenomena, facts, issues, analysis, and draw conclusions on the outcome of the analysis In addition to the competence of cognitive nature, thesis-making process also involves a wide range of practical competence necessary to write scientific papers, such as mastery of the intricacies of research methods and how to apply it in real activity. The course of Linguistics and Educational Research designed to provide insight into the understanding of research, types of research, research terminology, research designs, and other types of analysis required. The end product of this course is a research proposal. This study focuses on how to implement the Project Based Learning (PBL) in the class of Linguistic and Educational Research by following the steps of project development recommended by Sheppar & Stoller (1995). The main data that drawn from observations made in the form of quantitative data such as post-test value and portfolio.

Abstract

In this study, the writer as a teacher model, tried to explore: (1) the advantages and disadvantages of lesson study applied in a theoretical subject class; and (2) the effectiveness of it for students' learning outcomes. It was conducted in a class called Introduction to Linguistics with 30 students. There were four cycles and four colleagues who took part as the observers. In each cycle, she did PLAN, DO, and SEE. Then, descriptive analysis was used to elaborate teachers‘ professionalism and students‘ learning outcomes through observation sheets, discussion, and test. The result shows that there are some benefits, i.e. (1) the teacher can prepare her lesson plans and teaching media more carefully; (2) she can conduct her class more confidently and professionally; (3) she can get evaluation about her teaching process after her class ends; (4) the students can be more active and study more seriously; and(5) they can achieve better scores compared to other classes which don‘t use lesson study. However, there are also some disadvantages, e.g. (1) the teacher needs more time to prepare her lesson plans and teaching media; and (2) some students may feel depressed because of the observers‘ attendance.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in schools being closed around the world. Globally, most children are outside the classroom. As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the advent of typical e-learning, where teaching is done remotely and on digital platforms. These conditions are very demanding on information skills, media, and technology as a solution to these problems. All school activities had been shifted to an online delivery mode, which causes the implementation of teaching practices to be carried out online. This transfer forces pre-service teachers to have different teaching practice experiences. Technological devices are the facilities they use to support online learning. This study aims to describe the implementation and perceptions of pre-service teachers on their teaching practice experiences during the pandemic. Class observations are made on the implementation of English pre-service teachers’ teaching by implementing technological devices in three public junior high schools in Semarang. To evaluate how the teaching and learning process in applying technological devices, the Technological Integrated Matrix (TIM) by Florida Center for Instructional Technology is used as a framework for analyzing the data. TIM provides a framework for describing and targeting the use of technology to enhance learning. Questionnaires and interviews are also administered to obtain information about the pre-service teachers' perceptions of online learning during the pandemic era. Therefore, despite the limitations of its implementation, teaching practice programs tend to form a positive mindset and teaching attitude for pre-service teachers.
