Abstract

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global and national health concern. In Papua, the TB treatment success rate has yet to reach national targets. One of the key barriers to achieving this goal is the stigma surrounding TB patients. Purpose: To identify the relationship between TB-related health literacy and nurse stigma at Abepura Regional Hospital. Method: A quantitative correlational study was carried out between April and June 2024, involving 125 purposively selected nurses from Abepura Regional Hospital. Data collection was conducted using a TB literacy questionnaire and a TB-Related Stigma questionnaire. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Chi-square test. Results: Most respondents were female, non-Papuan, in early or late adulthood, held a bachelor's degree, and had 5-20 years of work experience. The majority were civil servants without prior TB-related training and were assigned to the Emergency and Pulmonary Rooms. While most respondents demonstrated good TB-related literacy, nearly 40% exhibited stigma toward TB patients. No significant correlation was found between TB health literacy and nurses' stigma. Conclusion: Despite possessing sufficient TB knowledge, nurses still exhibited a high level of stigma toward TB patients. Enhancing awareness and understanding among nurses and the community is essential through health promotion initiatives and strengthening the role of community and religious leaders.

Abstract

This community service focuses on health education aimed at teaching anxiety management techniques through distraction techniques, deep breathing relaxation, and five-finger hypnosis for patients with mental disorders at RSJD Abepura. This program is conducted as part of a collaboration between Cenderawasih University, the Nursing Science Program, and RSJD Abepura to fulfill the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through community service and to improve the quality of mental health services in Abepura. The educational methods include lectures, simulations, and interactive discussions with participants, including patients and their families. Results show an improvement in participants' understanding of relaxation and anxiety management techniques, evidenced by enthusiastic responses during simulations and discussions. A total of 80% of participants were able to understand and answer questions about anxiety management techniques after the session, although additional guidance is still needed for independent application of five-finger hypnosis.Further activities with more intensive guidance are required, particularly in the independent application of the five-finger hypnosis technique, to enhance the skills and confidence of patients and their families in managing anxiety independently. Additionally, increasing the duration and frequency of training sessions would be beneficial in deepening the understanding of relaxation techniques, which may contribute to reducing the anxiety rate among patients at RSJD Abepura

Abstract

Female Athlete Triad (FAT) disrupts the health and performance of female athletes both in training and competition, leading to a decline in achievements. The purpose of this research was to analyze one of the components of the FAT namely energy availability in Papuan female athletes. This research is an observational study with a Mixed Methods approach, involving a total sample of 55 female Papua athletes in Jayapura, Papua. Energy and nutrient intake were conducted by collecting data on the energy and nutrient intake of Papuan female athletes through interview, 3x24 hour recalls and questionnaires. The demographic data of FAT risk factors collected include age, weight, height, injury history, and sports. The components of energy availability collected include eating disorders. Energy intake data were processed using the Nutrisurvey dietary intake data processing software. The data were then compared with the recommended adequacy and energy requirements for athletes. The average energy intake achievement in athletes was found to be 87% (2273.76 cal). The average carbohydrate intake was 288.14grs (77%). The average protein intake was 88.68grs (93.34%), while the average fat intake was 86.71grs (98%). Mostly athletes have fulfilled their energy and nutritional intake.
