Child stories and literary works have both recreative characteristics and humanity values such as personality moral, social moral and religious moral which can shape childrenâ€™s ideal characteristics as a potential and strategic asset to help them to be civilized generation. The efforts to dig up the values from that two valuable sources are needed and the most possible way is through teaching the children how to appreciate child stories and literary works.

Ketrampilan menulis merupakan jenis ketrampilan berbahasa yang membutuhkan baik kemampuan tatabahasa dan pengorganisasian ide. Untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan menulis siswa bukanlah upaya yang sederhana, tetapi merupakan upaya yang membutuhkan cara-cara tertentu. PengajaranÂ ketrampilan menulis yang selama ini diterapkan di kelas lebih berorientasi pada pendekatan tradisional di mana pengajar ketrampilan menulis menyuruh siswa untuk menuliskan karangan dan karangan tersebut dikumpulkan untuk dikoreksi. Pada pendekatan ini siswa tidak diberi kesempatan untuk memasuki dunia nyata dalam menulis yaitu mencari topik, membuat kerangka karangan, menuliskan draft awal, merivisi dan menulis draft akhir. Langkah-langkah tersebut bisa dijumpai dalam pendekatan proses. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan tersebut dalam pengajaran ketrampilan menulis, siswa merasakan pembelajaran yang bermakna dan siswa dapat meningkatkan ketrampilan menulis mereka.Â Â

In this time, some experts and practitioners of education have given idea about role of belles-lettres in education of child character. Do not deny again that belles-lettres of have important role in the world of education. Short story as one of belles-lettres form in creative writing region can be made as a media to study of justice and gender equality among adolescent as well as children. Adolescent in this time have recognized fiction readings in the form of short story, continued story, novel even pictorial story or comic. Meanwhile, its can not not be denied that a work, specially a story, not get out from its writer background. This research takes location in Madrasah Aliyah Al Hidayah of Wajak, District Of Wajak, Malang. And the result of this research is there is a change at student after done guidance; 1) student have information and knowledge about gender and its aspects 2) change of patterned thinking to treat fairly and equivalent between men and woman at home, school, and environment, and 3) student can put down issues about gender equality in his/ her short story.Â Dewasa ini beberapa ahli dan praktisi pendidikan juga telah memberikan gagasan tentang peran karya sastra dalam pendidikan karakter anak. Tak dipungkiri lagi bahwa karya sastra memilki peran penting dalam dunia pendidikan. Â Cerita pendek sebagai salah satu bentuk karya sastra dalam wilayah kepenulisan kreatif bisa dijadikan media bagi pembelajaran keadilan dan kesetaraan gender di kalangan remaja dan juga anak-anak. Remaja saat ini sudah mengenal bacaan-bacaan fiksi berupa cerita pendek, cerita bersambung, novel bahkan cerita bergambar atau komik. Â Sementara itu, tidak dipungkiri bahwa sebuah karya, sebuah cerita khususnya, tidak lepas dari latar belakang penulisnya.Â Â Â Penelitian ini mengambil lokasi di Madrasah Aliyah Al Hidayah Desa Wajak, Kecamatan Wajak,Â Kabupaten Malang sebagai lokusnya. Dan hasil dari penelitian ini adalahterjadi perubahan pada siswa setelah dilakukan pendampingan; 1) siswa memiliki pengetahuan dan informasi tentang gender dan aspek-aspeknya, 2) perubahan pola pikir untuk memperlakukan secara adil dan setara antara laki-laki dan perempuan baik itu di rumah, di sekolah, dan di lingkungan sekitar, dan 3) siswa mampu meletakkan isu keadilan gender dalam cerita pendeknya.

This paper aims to discuss Indonesian Qualification Frameworks (IQFs) holistically. Today, we are being exposed to the discussions on IQFs through many socialization programs and government publications. As education practitioners, we have to be familiar with universal concepts of National Qualifications Framework (NQF) which most pioneers of NQF hold. It is not enough only having that, moreover, this paper presents other essential points about NQF and, specifically for Indonesian context, those are the potential benefits, the reasons of formulating IQFs, NQFs across countries, and further issues. I realize that this paper has not successfully contextualized into ELT as IQFs has recently been developed. However, this paper is significant engagement to IQFs for successful implementation.

Integrating Islamic values in non-religion subjects at masdrasah has been crucial to do. This study outlines the teachers’ beliefs and practices on integrating Islamic values in English lesson at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Jawa Timur. By using qualitative approach, this study involved 6 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers from Surabaya, Malang, and Pasuruan representing the demography of the city as metropolitan city, education city, and santri city. Data were taken from classroom observation and interview which then those were analysed by firsly categorizing into some dimensions. The teachers’ beliefs were categorized into their knowledge on integration, the important of integration, and integration in English lesson as well as the supporting policy from the school. The teachers believed that the integration of Islamic values is significant in English lesson as the manifestation of K-13 focusing on KI 1 and KI 2, and school policy. The beliefs influence the teachers’ practices in which they have been trying to insert Islamic values in their teaching activities. The level of integration was still at integrating religious routines such as ‘doa bersama’, ‘reciting some Surah’, ‘warning praying time’. The integration in the content of English lesson was still not strongly practiced even some teachers have done it by giving added values when explaining a particular material. The situation was mostly influenced by inability to operationalize the values into the teaching materials and the lack of model for integration. Further study on how to operationalize the integration, and on developing the model of integration will be worth investigating.

Studies on collaborative writing have proven its effectiveness for improving student's writing performance. However, further exploration is needed on how this method is applied to different writing genres. This research attempts to investigate the result of studentsâ€™ writing ability by using of collaborative writing. It also describes the implementation as well as the studentsâ€™ response in using this technique. The subjects were the eleventh graders of SMAN 4 Kediri. The type of this research is a classroom action research. There were two cycles, each of which consisted of three meetings and ended with post-test to measure the improvement of the studentsâ€™ writing ability. The data were collected by using observation lists, questionnaire, documentation, and writing test. The result showed that all of the students had passed the passing grade. In addition, they stated that they felt happy during the process of writing collaboratively as it was easier for them to compose a text collaboratively with their friends. The finding implied that writing teacher should focus on teaching and learning strategies not only focusing on the transfer of writing concepts. Therefore, collaborative narrative writing is an appropriate technique to be used in improving the studentsâ€™ writing ability.

The Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) language strongly indicates the sociolinguistic phenomenon as it reflects gender marking in language use. This study aims to explore how the Arabic letters attributed to specific gender identities, how the gender ideology of Arab culture create gender biases, and how the biases influence Arab social structure. It uses aspects of masculinity and femininity of Arabic letters that affect gender inequality and order of values on language, tradition and culture. Masculine letters are letters that have the property of being able to hold and entail other letters, while feminine letters that have the nature can be attached with other letters but cannot be attached. In this study, Arabic letters were mapped by observing their use in written and oral interaction in the contexts of Arab as first and second language. This research is a qualitative in nature. The data on ideology's influence on social structure were collected through interviews with three key informants representing their areas of expertise on language anthropology, sociolinguistic, and applied linguistic. The morphological analysis was carried out to identify the internal structure of the words. The sociolinguistic analysis explored the linguistic construction that to social construction. The finding showed that their internal structures, these letters were classified as masculine or feminine. From the sociolinguistic point of view, gender issues following social construction that has already formed gender relations. In other words, Arabic letters affect the order of values that tend to be gender-biased in the Arabic context.

Studies show that teaching materials can be integrated with critical thinking skills for enhancing successful learning. However, the integration is not always clear as the communicativeness aspect of the materials also contributes to the goal of effective learning. This study focuses on critical thinking devices and the aspect of communicativeness fulfilled or violated in Indonesian primary school supplementary materials for language courses. It employs content or document analysis on the supplementary materials of the first graders on courses of English, Indonesian and Javanese languages. The analysis is based on the assumption that critical thinking tools and communicative aspects are the two main pillars that characterize the quality of language teaching materials in elementary schools. In addition, critical thinking tools are linked with communicative aspects of language teaching materials to target targeted competency standards. The results show that the communicativeness aspect is supported by the use of real context and authenticity of the materials. In terms of critical thinking device, the supplementary materials are supported by clear purpose in presenting key information. The evaluation on the supplementary materials concerns with the effort to improve the quality of primary school student’s cognitive attainment and critical thinking through communicative supplementary materials.

The development of technology may impact educational field. Research on technology and language learning shows that technology may provide some opportunities for students to get an easy access in information, integrated learning, and easy way to practice what they learn. The language created in the computer program can be used as a communication tool for its application, including in teaching English. Nowadays, using computer can support language learning. Regarding this point, this study aims to analyze new terms found in Adobe Photoshop Program. Further, the researchers also described morphological processes of the new terms in Adobe Photoshop program in teaching English vocabulary. While, the design of this research is descriptive qualitative design. The result shows compound and derived words can be classified as new terms in Adobe Photoshop CS4. Related to teaching vocabulary, the results show that teaching English vocabulary through word formation found in new terms in Adobe Photoshop Program may give an impact on students’ vocabulary development.
