Abstract

Karate menjadi sebuah aktivitas olahraga dan seni bela diri yang diminati dan bahkan diajarkan kepada siswa di SMP Negeri 1 Karawang Barat. Kendati demikian pada aspek kuda-kuda, siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dan perlu pelatihan intensif. Untuk itu diadakan pelatihan yang berfokus pada teknik kuda-kuda depan (zenkutsu dachi) yang merupakan dasar dalam seni bela diri karate. Pelatihan diadakan sebanyak 5 pertemuan melibatkan 22 siswa. Melalui pelatihan, siswa diajarkan pengetahuan dasar, kegunaan dan metode kuda-kuda depan yang benar. Pelatihan dilaksanakan secara fun learning. Hasilnya menunjukkan siswa merasakan pengalaman belajar pelatihan karate dengan cara yang menyenangkan dan terfokus. Dengan melaitih kuda-kuda secara rutin dan berkelanjutan mampu meningkatkan skill siswa. Selain itu siswa juga menjadi semakin kolaboratif di antara peserta, memiliki kemandirian, kedisiplinan, sikap tanggung jawab dan kesadaran melakukan aktivitas yang bermanfaat dan menyehatkan tubuh sesuai kebutuhan perkembangan dan belajar mereka.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine students' engagement on Story Completion in speaking classrooms. The researcher conducted this research in a secondary school in Karawang, which consisted of four students from tenth-grade students. This research used a descriptive case study. The data was collected through interviews and questionnaires. Researchers conducted interviews via WhatsApp call. The questionnaire was distributed through Google Form and used a four-point Likert scale. This study used thematic analysis by Braun and Clark (2006), which includes six steps. It consists of familiarizing the data, generating initial code, searching for themes, reviewing the theme, defining and naming the data, and producing the report. The findings showed that students are positively engaged in emotional, behavioral, and cognitive engagement. In emotional engagement, most of the students gave a positive reaction. The students are enjoyable during the learning. Students showed their willingness to ask questions and do tasks in behavioral engagement. Students showed a high effort to learn in speaking class in cognitive engagement. However, there are obstacles in learning regarding the lack of vocabulary, so that some students find it difficult.

Abstract

Recently there has been a spate of interest on the flipped classroom that is the new learning model on education. Flipped classroom learning model is when the teacher giving material online through internet (outside the classroom). Students’ learning to understand the topic or material at home and conducting discussions or questions and answers, where the teacher answers the difficulties of students related material in the classroom. The teacher ask students with some of questions to check the students’ comprehension. In this research, focused on Flipped classroom model in teaching reading comprehension: students responses. The purpose of this research to find out the flipped classroom learning model is incorporated technology assisted and then to find out the flipped classroom learning model responded balance by students’. In research site and participant the researcher involved 36 students, 6 students as participants from second grade of Senior High School 1 Karawang West Java, with study objective sampling by using qualitative narrative inquiry method. To collect the data the researcher used three instrument that is reflective journal, interview and documentation. For data analysis technique the researcher used thematic analysis by Braun & Clark (2006) which is read the data deeply, transcribe, code, categorize, and interpret the data to analyze the data. The result of the research shown that students have positive responses. There are 5 students’ have the same positive responses that is students’ more comfortable to learning, get better understanding the material, make them active discuss in classroom. But 1 of students’ have a negative responded that is the condition of the classroom not conducive make her not really understood the material. It can be concluded that the flipped classroom learning model responded balance by students. The most of students more comfortable to learning the material first at home before teaching and learning in the classroom make them understand better, students more active to express their though in discussion session and also the process of learning was more interesting and helpful of them.

Abstract

This paper explain about communicative approach between Mastery Vocabulary and Students’ Reading Skill. The aim of the research  to prove the students must following this English practical lesson is easy, directly, spontaneous, happy, and fun and its can be English life skill. The teacher must mastery vocabulary well and give good example advice to learn by heart each vocabulary and use it in daily activity. The teacher should ensure that influence communicative is tired, just important thing don’t be shy, doubt, nervous its must be  brave to do it. Give nice and fresh atmosphere in the classroom, it does not easy boring they will enjoyable in unlimited time. In order this program well we gave the greatest spirit, reward and punishment. This activity have made by children as like as daily activity or life skill . So much reading many kind of difference material in English they can easily to translate directly and spontaneous and its can help communicative with others.

Abstract

Podcasts are a medium that can help teachers and students in distance learning or electronic learning. Podcasts can help teachers provide learning material and students can access it on each of the devices they have. Podcasts can also help students in learning English, especially in listening skills. This study aims to understand students’ interpersonal meaning focus on attitude towards podcast assisted listening learning. The researcher used a qualitative narrative inquiry design in this research to discover data from real-life situations. The instruments of this research were interview and diary. The collecting data was obtained through Google meeting. The researcher took place the research at Senior High School in Karawang. The participants of this research were four students of the 3rd grade at senior high school in Karawang. The questions were asked by semi structured interview. The findings revealed that the students’ attitude towards podcast assisted listening learning which include by three components, namely: affect, judgement and appreciation. Affect contain by students’ feeling, judgement contains by normality, capacity, tenacity, veracity, propriety and appreciation contains by quality, composition, and valuation

Abstract

Learning English speaking is well-known and taught as a foreign language in school. Among four significant skills, speaking is part of the essential skill because its role fundamentally serves as a means of communication. However, there are problems found in the class such as learners’ lack of self-confidence and lack of English vocabulary. This study is focused on students’ perception of the use Charades game in learning English speaking. The participant of this study is five students from junior high school in Karawang. Interview is the instruments use to conduct information related to the learners’ perception of learning English speaking through the Charades game. The data was analyzed through Miles and Huberman's steps. The result of the findings and discussion of data showed that all participants who participated in this study did show a positive perception of charades game and it seems that charades game makes a positive environment during learning English speaking thus the students feel enjoyed and fun when play it. Abstract

Learning speaking skill is one of the important components for mastering English skills of EFL students, including Indonesian students. However, this learning process is not easy to do, because English in Indonesia as a foreign language and also difficult to do in the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. This has an effect on students' motivation in learning to speak English. Motivation has an important role in the success of learning speaking foreign languages including English. The purpose of this study is to analyze the motivation of EFL students in English speaking class  during COVID-19 pandemic based on Gardner's theory and to analyze the difficulties in speaking English that will affect students' motivation. This study was conducted at a senior high school in Bekasi, Indonesia. The participants consisted of eight students in twelfth grade. The research design in this study used a case study. Data was collected through observation, focus group discussion (FGD), and documentation. Observation and FGD was carried out via Zoom meeting. The data analysis used is thematic analysis. The result of this study is the students have instrumental and integrative motivation. However, students are motivated more instrumentally than integratively. The most students are instrumentally motivated for future interests such as as get a better job, continuing education, and to achieve success in the future. Then, many students experience difficulties in pronunciation and grammar which can influence their motivation in speaking English. This study has limitations, because the participants only consisted of eight students from twelfth grade. Keywords:  EFL Students, Motivation, Speaking

Abstract

Technology in education makes it easy for us to find various sources of knowledge quickly and can be done anytime and anywhere. However, teachers must have appropriate methods to implement during teachings, such as providing media, teaching techniques, or learning strategies. This encourages researchers' interest in utilizing the Hello English application in the classroom as mobile technology students can use to learn English. This study aims to determine EFL students' perceptions of the use of mobile technology in task-based language teaching. A case study was used to conduct the research in a qualitative way. The participant in this study is three students from junior high school in Karawang. Data collection in this study used student observations, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis uses the thematic analysis of Braun & Clarke (2006); there are six steps: get to know the data, produce initial codes, search for themes, review themes, define and name themes, and write the report. The results show that EFL students' perceptions of mobile technology in task-based language teaching received a positive response. Also, affect students' learning, specifically in the context of vocabulary learning, which is the primary issue in English classes.

Abstract

Kosakata adalah salah satu komponen penting dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian studi kasus deskriptif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa dalam belajar kosakata bahasa Inggris menggunakan Quizlet. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di salah satu ruang kelas di salah satu sekolah menengah di Karawang untuk berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Lima siswa yang memiliki sikap terbaik dan aktif dalam observasi berpartisipasi dalam wawancara. Untuk membantu siswa memiliki perbendaharaan kata yang banyak, diperlukan suatu media pembelajaran agar siswa tertarik untuk mempelajari kosakata bahasa Inggris. Maka penelitian ini menggunakan Instagram sebagai media pembelajaran untuk menjangkau lebih banyak kosakata. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa siswa memiliki minat yang besar dalam belajar kosakata bahasa Inggris menggunakan Instagram. Instagram berpotensi menjadi media pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris. Fitur-fitur di Instagram membuat siswa antusias karena mereka dapat menemukan kosakata bahasa Inggris baru dengan mudah. Para siswa merasa terbantu dan senang menggunakan aplikasi ini untuk belajar kosakata bahasa Inggris. Masalah yang dialami beberapa siswa hanya terkait dengan jaringan yang buruk saat menggunakan Instagram di sekolah. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu guru, siswa, dan sekolah dalam menerapkan media pembelajaran yang dapat membantu siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan gambar sebagai media pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menyimak siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian pra-eksperimental. Pre-test dan post-test digunakan sebagai instrumen dalam mengumpulkan data. Penulis menggunakan satu kelas dari dua belas kelas di MA Swasta Karawang sebagai sampel. Data dianalisis secara statistik dengan menggunakan uji-t. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 89,4, perhitungan statistik menunjukkan hasil To (t-observasi) > t (t-tabel) yang diperoleh adalah 17,986 sedangkan nilai Tt adalah 1,721 dengan taraf signifikan 5% (0,05), karena To lebih tinggi daripada Tt, maka hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nihil (Ho) ditolak. Dari hasil analisis ini, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media gambar merupakan media yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menyimak siswa.
