Abstract

Teachers in SMAN 1 Turen had tried to apply innovative learning models but some problems occurred in the implementation. The improvement of learning quality which emphasized on learning process could be done by giving students scientific experience. The scientific experience which was implemented in Hypothetical-Deductive Learning Cycle (HDLC), Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) and Direct Instruction method (DI) was expected to be able to improve the students’ achievement and higher order thinking skills. This research aimed to know the difference of the effect of using HDLC, STAD and DI based on prior knowledge on the chemical equilibrium toward achievement and high ordered thinking skill of XI IPA SMAN 1 Turen students. This research used a quasi experiment design with factorial design: 3x2. The research was performed in SMAN 1 Turen, research sample were chosen using cluster random sampling technique, consist of 3 classes, which are XI IPA 2 class (36 students) using HDLC, XI IPA 3 class (36 students) using STAD and XI IPA 4 class using MPL. The Instrument validity and reliability test showed that 30 questions were valid with content validity of 95,3% and the reliability of 0,917. Data was analyzed using program Statistical Package for Social Sciences 16.0 version for windows on significance degree a(alpha)= 0,05 with ANOVA test. The research showed that (1) There was a difference on students’ achievement and high order thinking skills of science XI SMAN 1 Turen students using HDLC, STAD and DI on the chemical equilibrium; (2) There was a difference on students’ achievement and high order thinking skills of science XI SMAN 1 Turen students with high and low level of prior knowledge on the chemical equilibrium; (3) There was a difference of students’ achievement and high ordered thinking skill using HDLC, STAD and DI with different prior knowledge.Keywords: learning models, prior knowledge, chemistry achievement, high order thinking skills

Abstract

Xantin oksidase adalah enzim yang berperan dalam pembentukan asam urat. Xantin oksidase mengkatalisis hipoxantin menjadi xantin kemudian menjadi asam urat. Tanaman daun salam mampu menurunkan kadar asam urat darah karena mengandung metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin dan minyak atsiri.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat enzim xantin oleh ekstrak daun salam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian  ekperimental yang dilakukan di Laboratorium Farmakognosi Akademi Farmasi Putra Indonesia Malang. Tahap penelitian meliputi, ekstraksi, isolasi enzim, uji aktivitas enzim dan uji daya inhibisi enzim. Pengujian aktivitas penghambatan xantin oksidasi menggunakan metode spektrofotometi pada λ290 nm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada varian konsentrasi 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, 50 ppm dan 100 ppm dihasilkan berturut-turut % inhibisinya yaitu 100%, 0%, 100%, 100%, dan 0%. Allopurinol digunakan sebagai kontrol positif dengan varian konsentrasi yang sama dihasilkan % inhibisi 100%, 0%, 0%, 0%, dan 100%.  Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ekstrak daun salam dengan konsentrasi 5 ppm memiliki % inhibisi sebesar 100% setara dengan allopurinol 5 ppm. Sedangkan pada konsentrasi 100 ppm ekstrak daun salam tidak menunjukkan aktivitas penghambatan yaitu 0%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daun salam memiliki aktivitas  penghambatan enzim xantin oksidase sehingga diharapkan dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai obat alternatif dalam menurunkan asam urat.

Abstract

Senyawa antioksidan semakin luas penggunaannya seiring dengan berkembangnya pemahaman masyarakat tentang peranannya dalam menghambat penyakit degenerative serta penuaan dini. Biji buah pinang yaki (Areca vestiaria Giseke) mengandung banyak senyawa yang bersifat antioksidan dengan mekanisme pengkapan radikal bebas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak dan fraksi biji buah pinang yaki dan nilai IC50 dari aktivitas antioksidannya. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan ekstraksi dengan metode soxhletasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Kemudian dipartisi menggunakan tiga pelarut yaitu n-heksan, etil asetat, dan etanol-air. Selanjutnya dilakukan perhitungan rendemen, skrining fitokimia, dan uji aktivitas antioksidan dengan menggunakan metode DPPH. Hasil perhitungan rendemen ekstrak etanol, fraksi n-heksan, fraksi etil asetat, dan fraksi etanol-air biji buah pinang yaki berturut-turut 17,11%, 10,82%, 18,16%, 52,78%. Skrining fitokimia flavonoid pada ekstrak etanol, etil asetat, fraksi etanol-air menunjukkan positif adanya senyawa flavonoid terhadap reagen Mg-HCl. Nilai IC50 ekstrak etanol, fraksi n-heksan, fraksi etil asetat, fraksi etanol-air berturut-turut 94,52 µg/ml, 445,72 µg/ml, 44,65 µg/ml, 91,4 µg/ml. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol biji buah pinang yaki dan fraksinya memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Fraksi etil asetat memiliki aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi yaitu 44,65 µg/ml.

Abstract

     Abstract. COVID-19 pandemic can accelerate education 4.0, by changing the face-to-face learning system to online. The transition of the learning system to online bring several problems to the world of education. This problem is related to the unpreparedness of the teacher in preparing learning media to support the Distance Learning Process (PJJ). PJJ system is carried out by utilizing information technology. To support online learning, chemistry teachers in Mojokerto are mostly not yet skilled in using Information Technology (IT), such as learning media online and maximizing the functions platforms of pre-existing such as power points. However, chemistry learning needs to be done with a touch of  IT. Because chemical materials are submicroscopic and abstract, so IT is needed to understand them more easily. With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), it can be utilized by maximizing the use of the internet for activities. Community dedication as an applicable activity of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the form of training is one effort that is felt to be done to overcome these problems. Therefore, the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Universitas Negeri Malang provided training in making learning media online to Chemistry MGMP MA/SMA in Mojokerto city. The scope of activities carried out includes (1) program socialization and cooperation to school, (2) coaching, and (3) monitoring and evaluation. The results obtained indicate that this training activity is very useful and provides more insight into learning media online, with the hope that this activity can be carried out regularly to improve teacher skills in utilizing IT.               Abstrak. Pandemi COVID-19 mampu mengakselerasi pendidikan 4.0 dengan mengubah sistem pembelajaran tatap muka menjadi daring. Peralihan sistem pembelajaran menjadi daring membawa beberapa persoalan tersendiri bagi dunia pendidikan. Persoalan tersebut berkaitan dengan ketidaksiapan guru dalam menyiapkan media pembelajaran guna mendukung proses Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ). Sistem PJJ dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan teknologi informasi. Guna menunjang pembelajaran daring guru-guru kimia di Kabupaten Mojokerto sebagian besar belum terampil dalam menggunakan Information Technology (IT), seperti media pembelajaran online serta memaksimalkan fungsi platform yang sudah ada sebelumnya seperti power point. Selain hal itu, pembelajaran kimia memang perlu dilakukan dengan sentuhan IT. Hal tersebut dikarenakan materi kimia bersifat submikroskopik dan abstrak, sehingga diperlukan IT untuk lebih mudah memahaminya. Dengan berkembangnya Internet of Things (IoT) saat ini, maka dapat dimanfaatkan dengan memaksimalkan penggunaan internet untuk kegiatan pembelajaran kimia, baik teori maupun praktikum. Pengabdian masyarakat sebagai kegiatan aplikatif tri dharma perguruan tinggi dalam bentuk pelatihan merupakan salah satu upaya yang dirasa dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Oleh karena itu, Jurusan Kimia FMIPA Unversitas Negeri Malang memberikan pelatihan pembuatan media pembelajaran online  kepada MGMP Kimia MA/SMA Kabupaten Mojokerto. Lingkup kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi: (1) sosialisasi program dan kerja sama ke sekolah, (2) pembinaan, serta (3) monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil yang diperoleh menyatakan bahwa kegiatan pelatihan ini sangat bermanfaat dan memberikan wawasan lebih terkait media pembelajaran online, dengan harapan kegiatan ini dapat dilaksanakan secara berkala untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam memanfaatkan IT.

Abstract

Fig fruit contains a quite high flavonoid that supports the use of it for several disease therapies. Yet, most of the flavonoid in plants is difficult to be digested since it bounds with the glycoside, so the hydrolysis is necessary. The hydrolysis can be done through the lactic acid fermentation. This research aims to determine the effect of lactic acid fermentation on fig fruit flavonoid. Dried fig fruit was prepared into a fig fruit extract and fermented at 37°C for 24 hours using 4 types of starter bacteria; Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. casei and L. plantarum. The fermentation result was identified its flavonoid using dye reaction, determined its flavonoid content using the spectrophotometry with the quercetin standard, and analyzed qualitatively using the LC-MS/MS. The results show that the flavonoid was identified in both before and after the fermentation, but the flavonoid content decreases 30 – 50% after the fermentation. The LC-MS/MS shows that the identified flavonoid is rutin, with the relatively higher percentage after the fermentation. In addition, the catechin and epicatechin are not detected. It can be concluded that the lactic acid fermentation affects the fig fruit flavonoid. The fermentation with all types of starter bacteria decreases the total flavonoid content of fig fruit juice.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, learning is done online. Many students experience difficulties and decreased learning achievement while carrying out online learning. The reaction rate practicum learning media used at the high school level does not yet represent macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic chemical concepts and has not been adapted to online learning. Multiple chemical representations can be applied using android-based learning media so that students are expected to understand the concepts in the reaction rate practicum. Android-based learning media is used to support the learning process. The purpose of developing android-based learning media on the reaction rate practicum concept is to produce android-based learning media and determine its feasibility. The development model used is the 4-D model by Thiagarajan, et al. The product developed in the form of an android-based reaction rate practicum learning media for students at senior high school. Based on the validation results indicate that the module is very feasible to use by meeting the percentage of 88.8%. The results of the readability test on the module obtained a percentage of 84.5%, so based on this assessment the module is very suitable for students to use as a learning resource and learning process in the classroom.

Abstract

The voltaic cell teaching materials used in high school are still in the form of textbooks that do not present multiple representations of chemistry, namely the macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic levels. The three levels of chemical representation can be visualized using flipbook teaching materials so that students are expected to understand the voltaic cell material. Teaching materials are used to support the learning process. Current learning still uses conventional learning models that only focus on teachers. Constructivist-based active learning is needed because it involves students so that learning is more meaningful. One of the constructivist learning models is the guided inquiry learning model which includes observing, asking questions, compiling hypotheses, gathering information, testing hypotheses, and concluding. The purpose.of this development.is to.produce a proper guided inquiry-based flipbook teaching material. The flipbook teaching.materials were developed.using the Four-D model (define, .design, .develop,and.disseminate) but the disseminated stage was not carried out. Media and material validation was carried out by five chemistry lecturers. The legibility test was carried out by 50 high school alumni with a specialization in Science. The assessment uses a Likert scale accompanied by comments, suggestions from the validator, and audience. The data obtained from the analysis questionnaire to determine the feasibility level of the product using the percentage technique. The validation of the flipbook teaching materials development product in terms of material obtained an average score of 85.4%, validation in terms of media.obtained.an.average percentage of 85.5%, while the readability test results obtained.an.average.percentage of 87%. Based on the results.of material validation, media, and legibility tests, it can be concluded that the flipbook teaching materials guided inquiry-based voltaic cells are very suitable as a learning resource.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegitan ini adalah untuk pengenalan dan pengembangan rancangan pembelajaran STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) dalam meningkatkan Kompetensi Guru Kimia SMA dan SMK di Kota Madiun. Mitra dalam kegitan ini adalah guru kimia yang tergabung dalam MGMP kimia SMA dan SMK di Kota Madiun. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 21 orang guru. Metode dalam kegitan ini adalah trasfer of knowledge melalui kegitan workshop. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah: (1) mampu mencari solusi atas permasalahan yang dihadapi guru kimia di Kota Madiun, ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan capaian pemahaman melalui diklat sebesar 26,36% (dilihat dari tes awal dan tes akhir), dan (2) Pemahaman guru terhadap STEM sebesar 83,81%. Harapan peserta dan mitra kolaborasi (MGMP Kimia Kota Madiun), kegiatan semacam ini dapat secara berkesinambungan, terutama menyusun dan mengembangkan Desain Pembelajaran Berbasis STEM pada materi kimia di Sekolah Menengah dan implementasi pembelajarannya.Introduction to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the Development of Learning Designs to Pioneering Chemistry Learning with the Credit System in Madiun CityAbstractThe purpose of this activity is to introduce and develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning designs in improving the Competence of High School and Vocational School Chemistry Teachers in Madiun City. Partners in this activity are chemistry teachers who are members of the High School and Vocational High School Chemistry MGMP in Madiun City. The activity was attended by 21 teachers. The method in this activity is the transfer of knowledge through workshop activities. The results of this community service activity are: (1) being able to find solutions to problems faced by chemistry teachers in Madiun City, indicated by an increase in understanding achievement through training by 26.36% (seen from the initial test and final test), and (2) Teachers' understanding of STEM was 83.81%. The hope of the participants and collaboration partners (MGMP Kimia Kota Madiun), this kind of activity can be sustainable, especially compiling and developing STEM-Based Learning Designs on chemistry materials in secondary schools and the implementation of learning.

Abstract

Umbi bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr) diketahui mengandung senyawa tanin, alkaloid, saponin, fenol, flavonoid, dan triterpenoid/steroid. Kandungan senyawa dalam Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr tersebut diyakini memiliki aktivitas antioksidan atau sebagai anti radikal bebas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol 96% dan fraksi umbi Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr dengan metode DPPH. Umbi Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96% dan difraksinasi berdasarkan tingkat kepolaran dengan pelarut air, etil asetat, dan n-heksana. Identifikasi senyawa umbi Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr dilakukan dengan metode skrining fitokimia. Uji aktivitas antiokdisan ekstrak etanol dan fraksi-fraksi umbi Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr dengan konsentrasi dilakukan dengan metode DPPH. Dengan vitamin C sebagai pembanding dengan konsentrasi 2,64 µg/mL, 5,28 µg/mL, 7,92 µg/mL, 10,56 µg/mL, 13,2 µg/mL. Hasil perhitungan rendemen ekstrak etanol 96% sebesar 7,5%. Ekstrak etanol dan fraksi-fraksi masing-masing teridentifikasi mengandung senyawa flavonoid dan fenolik. Pengukuran aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak dan fraksi-fraksi umbi Eleutherine palmifolia(L.) Merr menggunakan metode DPPH masing-masing menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang baik dengan nilai IC50 (inhibitory concentration) dari ekstrak dan fraksi etanol-air, etil asetat, dan n-heksana masing-masing secara berturut-turut adalah 62,71±0,066 µg/mL, 26,7±0,122 µg/mL, 83,40±1,760 µg/mL, 51,53±0,751 µg/mL.

Abstract

The 21st century provides many changes and challenges for teachers and students. The rapidly developing digital era broadly impacts learning development in Indonesia. The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has promoted the implementation of an merdeka curriculum which provides flexibility for teachers to develop students' 21st century abilities. The new merdeka curriculum was established so that teachers are still adapting to these changes. This article reviews the perspectives of chemistry teachers on 21st-century skills that have developed in Indonesia. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with surveys, questionnaires, and interviews. Respondents were Chemistry teachers, totaling eighty-four teachers and scattered throughout Indonesia. Interviews followed this up with ten teachers deliberately selected from the overall sample. The results showed that 94% of Chemistry teachers understand the importance of 21st-century skills. The study reveals that optimizes 21st-century skills. Several ways can be taken, namely, using constructivist learning methods to improve skills, providing engaging learning media, making motivational learning videos, and providing more time for students to complete problem-based learning or projects. They mentioned several challenges that hindered them from applying 21st-century skills in their teaching practice. The reasons for time constraints and concerns about teaching chemistry concepts were not completed according to schedule; the assessment needed to be more optimal because it was still focused on written tests and limited resources and infrastructure. Despite the many challenges, most teachers are still keen to implement learning that applies 21st-century skills in their classes.
