English is an international language, and almost all Indonesians are aware that most of the teaching materials that use English contain foreign cultural content and topics from abroad. This will cause students to be less aware of the culture of the nation, because they are more focused on understanding foreign cultures. This problem will be incompatible with the goals of national education, which emphasize the development of national cultural identity and the formation of virtuous character, as well as the competitiveness of human resources for the Indonesian nation. This research is the development of teaching materials that aim to produce a product that will later be useful for students in improving their English language skills. In this study also discusses how a teacher can manage their teaching from rich local materials and resources into attractive teaching and learning management. As a teaching material, the product produced is English-language material, using easy-to-understand vocabulary, and is not accompanied by practice questions at the end of the reading, so that students can read calmly.

One potential of extensive online listening materials is that, unlike intensive listening, EFL students can listen independently by using audio listening features. It encourages students to practice listening and to promote listening fluency and autonomous learning outside the classroom. However, little research has investigated how lower English proficiency students from non- English department in EFL setting, undertaking the process of extensive listening. This study requires some Indonesian students at the tertiary level to select the appropriate materials with their proper level of listening speed to the individual learner. It was a weekly assignment to practice listening outside their classroom. This study seeks to investigate the websites that the EFL students with low proficiency levels choose to do their extensive listening activities, the types of news that may interest the students to listen, and the perception of the extensive listening activities. The results showed that students use captioned- provided websites as their media instruction in listening for pleasure with a variety of news.

The need for technology progresses along with the widespread use of science and technology in various fields, especially in education, which is perceived as a solid foundation for the nation's progress. Increasingly tighter global competition also demands every government and country innovate and improve its nation's quality. Therefore, as educational instruments, educators always strive to create a quality education system for Indonesia's better future. Efforts to improve the quality of education in teaching English by adapting to technological advances can be one of the lights for this nation's future, especially in a global pandemic this year. For this reason, the authors initiated the training on the utilization of digital media in online English learning classes for students and alumni in Pontianak. It aims to positively and significantly impact online learning quality for students and alumni of universities in West Kalimantan. This Community Service was conducted by six English lecturers and one RELO trainer from New York, United States. It was held in three stages from July to November 2020. The first stage was training for teacher volunteers who were also graduates from three universities in Pontianak. This stage was carried out online and guided by a representative from the United States RELO, Yuta Otake. In the second stage, the teacher volunteers practiced teaching six classes at a partner school, SMA Santun Untan. The last step was the Virtual English Academic Camp, where students were invited to take part in exciting online academic activities and gameshows for three days. This Community Service has succeeded in providing adequate digital media utilization training in online English learning class to enhance understanding and English language skills for students and alumni of universities in Pontianak. This study explored the learning strategies and difficulties of visually impaired students. The study involved four students with visual impairment in Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province. The researchers collected data through semi-structured interviews. A qualitative approach was employed in this study. Four informant students took part in this study. All of them were in their secondary education level. The researchers coded the transcription of the interviews. The results showed that visually impaired students preferred to use auditory learning resources and active learning strategies. They perceived these two learning strategies as essential to help them understand the learning materials. Besides, the informant students also claimed that their reading comprehension, self-efficacy and confidence were low. These ideas may facilitate educators to understand what visually impaired students need in their learning and help educators accommodate their teaching in line with what blind students require.

Information on a culture needs to be written in an international language, like English language, to make it well known internationally. Such reading materials would also have positive impact in the educational and cultural diplomacy. This article argues on the importance of the internationalization of Kalimantan Barat culture and recommends a research procedure to develop materials on Malay sultanates and palaces in Kalimantan Barat as English extensive reading sources for younger generations. There are three foci of activity that are suggested here, namely: need analyses, designing and developing, and evaluation. The presence of such products would facilitate the local younger generations learn their cultures and English language simultaneously through extensive reading activities. The presence of confirmable materials would help reduce information bias and misunderstanding about the history and the culture. - Through extensively reading local materials that are written in English, it is expexted that the younger generations would be able to communicate their local culture and history nationally and internationally.

This study investigated technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) practices during the current COVID-19 pandemic and examined factors influencing students’ perceptions of effective online learning. This study gathered the primary data from 90 university students from four study programs via the online questionnaire. Using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical tool for data analysis, this study found that students’ perceptions of their teachers’ teaching performance in the fully online programs are not significantly different across four study programs. This finding implies that regardless of their study programs, the students had expected that teachers should pay attention to some vital aspects in online learning: using the same learning management system (LMS) for all study programs, and preparing designing practical online modules, taking care of the organization of teaching inputs that promote students’ critical thinking, delivering various teaching inputs and methods, intensifying teachers’ presence in monitoring students’ learning progress, motivating students to learn, and promoting teacher-student mutual respect through effective communication. This study also revealed that teachers play a pivotal role in achieving effective online learning during the pandemic.
